Am going to make pancakes (using a simple Japanese recipe)

Into a big bowl, add
– 50 g of white sugar
– 2 eggs
– 200 ml of milk (1 Japanese “cup.” Yes, I know that a NZ “cup” is 250 ml)
Beat to dissolve
– Add 200 g of self-raising flour
Beat

Put a little butter into a frypan, Ladle the mix into frypan and cook gently. One full ladle per pancake should do. Will make 4 medium-sized pancakes.

Flip once, when the bubbles come up. Should be a nice light brown.

Easy. Just remember 50 + 2 + 200 + 200.

NZ Herald reports on an “Austrian Man” who ploughed a car through Graz, exited the car than begins randomly stabbing people. so far there are 3 dead (including a 7 y.o. boy), and 34 injured, many critically.

The NZ Herald calls the man a “Deranged Lone Assassin” who suffered from “Mental Distress” with Police ruling out “an extremist, religious or political background” motive for the attack saying that it was the “act of a lone wolf”. The Mayor has also said that “We have much to do to ensure cohesion in our community”

Of course if you know how to read between the lines of the above or read any reports on this incident from the so called “alternative media”, it is unbelievable that the the MSM can’t even bring themselves to say the word “Islam” in its reports and how they throw out the usual “lone wolf” “mental illness” memes.

Just compare the above with the reporting of the terrible shooting incident in the USA only a couple of days ago – where were the “lone wolf”/”mental illness” angles so obvious to us all? Instead within hours we were being bombarded with the ever so predictable, “hate crime” “white racist” memes despite this individuals drug induced psychosis.

And anyone remember when Marine Le Pen tried to highlight the death by car Jihad going on in Europe? She was silenced and ignored by the Political Elite and MSM when she tried to raise this issue:

Never used a recipe just two eggs, flour with sufficient milk added to get a thin a batter.
Into a frypan greased with butter just beginning to smoke.
Wait for the bubbles to burst.

Griff,

Like many Japanese recipes, this one’s trump is its texture. The key is to try to get as close as you can to 200 ml and 200 g, as the viscosity of the mixture is critical. It’s a thicker batter (inspired by American “flapjacks” so you need to cook it on a moderate heat).

Also, don’t use budget self-raising flour if you can help it. Get the finest quality of ingredients.

You can add bananas and walnuts if you want.

Griff, I have used the very similar Edmond’s recipe for years (no sugar); definitely a family favourite. I don’t however use butter – just a very thin batter onto a non-stick frypan; butter makes the first two ‘cakes taste terrible, since they absorb it all. ugh!!

BTW (and while still on the subject): If any pancake aficionado’s are in Victoria (Oz, not Canada), a visit to any of ‘The Pancake Parlour’ chain of eateries is recommended (and yes, it IS Oz owned…)

Griff: Interesting. Do you add water at all to your batter? I was taught to do so many years ago. the addition of water thins it (which, of course increases the number of cakes that can be made), and helps in the ‘proving’ (standing) process. The thinner batter also makes ‘crepe-type’ pancakes virtually every time; very satisfying.

In the last twenty four hours I have watched the final of the under 20 Football world cup and the final of the under 20 Rugby tournament.

I found it interesting that in a rugby mad country like NZ the final of the football was a sell out, while, in Italy the final of the rugby was played before a very small crowd in a stadium that was largely empty. This of course proves (once again) that rugby is a very minor world sport that very few nations care about.

Of course Rugby can never hope to become a true world game as long as the NZ rugby union is allowed to steal the best players from the south pacific nations. A closer inspection of the team selected to play for NZ would suggest that at least one third of the squad are either Tongan, Samoan of Fijian. Why is it that the NZRU is allowed to do this?

If Rugby ever hopes to advance from being a very minor world sport then it must do something about the stupid eligibility rules. Those players born in the islands to parents who are not Kiwis should not be able to play for NZ (the late Jerry Collins being a classic example)

If we really want the game to be one that is truly international then we need to make sure that players born in the islands play for the islands. The NZRU should stop cheating and pick only true New Zealanders in their national team.

The views of the so called right on Kiwiblog today just represent the entrenched interests whose failure to fight the left in any meaningful way have brought us too where we are today, with the National Govt being so far left it is worse than the Labour govt’s of old.

Key disgusts me so much and his supporters even more so that I can no longer stomach Kiwiblog or even the whole political situation in NZ.

On a broader view, the blogosphere only has minimal influence on political events, and is read by maybe 10% of the voting electorate. That 10% has a hundred different political views.

Blogging or commenting on blogs is therefore of dubious value in terms of changing political perceptions. Not saying that it doesn’t do that, but saying that the effort involved is hardly worth the return.

Arguing with idiots like Griff and other utterly sickeningly psychopathic cowards and madmen like you know who on Kiwiblog or elsewhere in the blogosphere is a waste of productive time in terms of real return. You’re just banging your head against a wall of ignorance and lies. There is no profit in trying to deal with narcissistic psycopaths who have not the slightest concern with truth or honesty.

If you work for yourself as I do, in any kind of high pressure working environment, you have to decide where your time is better spent, and I have therefore decided to limit my time on the net.

I’ve spent two decades fighting the left on the net, and its time to re-evaluate. I have to face reality. The left are winning, because of cowards like John Key and his supporters. Corporate cronyism runs deeper than at any other time in NZ’s history. The National Party is destroyed by Key and his henchmen. The UK Conservative Party is destroyed by the like coward David Cameron. The Republicans in the US have been destroyed by a similar succession of cowards.

There is today no real and effective opposition to the left and their global power.

I don’t think writing on the internet today brings enough return to justify its continuance. Better to let the whole corrupt and broken edifice collapse into its own excrement, and although that might be an event I regret, its the only solution I can see that will change the voter’s perceptions the way they need to be changed. Without any effort from myself.

So I might post the occasional item up here, but in the main I have made the decision to spend less time on politics and more on enjoying myself.

Just imagine if they got over 5% and John Key could have given them that but kept well clear. It would mean that the Government would be dependant on the stability of Colin Craig and his Conservatives. The headline linking to this story on Stuff records that the parents maintain that their daughter was murdered. Nothing like a bit of cheap sensation to draw attention.

The story headline is more realistic. I wondered about the purpose of the headline and that got me wondering about the purpose of the story. Ultimately, the story line says it all. It was a sad and strange life and death.

I would love to see international rugby strong, I would love to see a RWC that was not a joke, I would love to see a RWC where more than three countries had a chance of winning. The IRB need to either change the rules or change the name of the NZ team to Oceania.

I don’t think writing on the internet today brings enough return to justify its continuance. Better to let the whole corrupt and broken edifice collapse into its own excrement, and although that might be an event I regret, its the only solution I can see that will change the voter’s perceptions the way they need to be changed. Without any effort from myself.

So I might post the occasional item up here, but in the main I have made the decision to spend less time on politics and more on enjoying myself.

Not really – it was citizenship focused (and, of course, one can have more than one citizenship). Now it’s a little looser than that.
Once you play for a given country at adult level, that is it (I think).

In the 20th century, FIFA allowed a player to represent any national team, as long as the player held citizenship of that country. In 2004, in reaction to the growing trend towards naturalisation of foreign players in some countries, FIFA implemented a significant new ruling that requires a player to demonstrate a “clear connection” to any country they wish to represent.

So given that criteria the likes of Sivivatu (who could barley speak English) and the Fijian who will be named today would not qualify.

The IRB should look at this issue on the basis of what is good for the game, not on what is good for the NZRU. There is no doubt that the Samoan team of a few years back would have been far stronger with the likes of Jerry Collins, Rodney So’oialo and Sivivatu playing for the countries of their birth.

Indeed. But really, do you take the Japanese team seriously when it is full of players of PI or European extraction?

Imagine how good the world game would be with the PI nations as strong as they could be?, imagine how good it would be if the NZRU had to really do what is best for the game in NZ instead of stealing the best players from abroad, imagine how interesting the world cup would be to see Samoa beat NZ, South Africa or England.

I don’t believe the numbers of island-born players who have represented NZ would have been sufficient to materially affect the results of those island teams had they represented them instead.
This is impossible to prove, of course, but we are talking about a relatively small number of players, who would probably have been fairly easily replaced from the NZ talent pool.

One of the Fifa Under 20 Wold Cup games I went to was on the same day as a NZ under 20 rugby game. The rugby was in a town in Italy I’d not heard of and had considerably more attending than the football game in NZ.

Rugby a nothing game, in a nothing town in a non-rugby place. Football, the most popular game in the world, that has all in its thrall, that we have been told for years is the biggest sport and biggest growing sport in NZ and a match in their second biggest tournament.

All of that stuff is irrelevant, the main point is that anything is grist to your hate of rugby mill.

It’s not flash in Whanganui this morning, with the river spilling over the banks last night and flooding a number of houses. There’s also a lot of land damage around the city (including just over the fence from my place), and with five inches of rain since Friday morning, everything is saturated. I’ve certainly never seen the Whanganui River flowing as fast as it has been this morning, and high tide at 1.27pm is a bit of a worry.

Indeed KS flooding seems to be a recurring theme for NZ this year.
We have had extreme events in the far north, Dunedin, kapiti coast and now this worse than a hundred year flood in Wanganui .
Catastrophic one could say .
It may even force some to reevaluate the warnings science has been giving us over the last decades as to the effects of changing the atmospheric content of green house gases.
Since the scientist are telling us one in a hundred year events could become one in ten then the new normal the extremes we experience under this new climactic regime will overwhelm infrastructure not built for such a scenario.
Mitigation needs to be planed for now not after such events have caused cost and chaos.

It’s called nature, even grief’s constantly and much touted “experts” say so.

Simple fact is , build a town or city on a swamp or river mouth then at sometime mother nature is going to say , dumb choice.

Think these events are extreme , there’re two tectonic plates about to say otherwise, why do we have the Southern Alps?

I am concerned as to who is going to pay for all the uninsured for recent weather damage.

Christchurch has set a very bad precedent, whereby the Taxpayer/Ratepayers are expected to stump up for the emotional tears and everything else that can be thought of.
