yes, because the originals were so great. then the trailer hit and we were still excited but kinda thinking “vader is 6 years old!”

the crashed star destroyer is just outstanding.

Going to be a great year for movies on the face of what’s being released.

Age Of Ultron and Thunder Road!

I feel so spoiled – the comics I enjoyed as a kid are now being presented as entertaining movies.

The saturation must overwhelm the market at some point, but right now is a good time to be a glutton for this stuff.

One of the things that raises my expectations is Abrams use of more practical effects rather than flooding the screen with copious boring CGI.

There is a hint of creating more by using less and applying techniques where needed rather than because one can.

The Falcon dodging a handful of TIE fighters (hopefully for good reason in a structured story) is more fun than a sky filled with CGI battles for instance.

Yeah I think this is going to be good, and make up for the prequels. Having JJ Abrams at the helm was a smart decision by Lucas, who has great vision but is not a great director and screenplay writer.

The other big news in the sci-fi world is that Ridley Scott is making a sequel to Bladerunner, one of my top five favorite films. I just hope to hell he gets it right.

It will be a disaster and an example, I think, of returning to the mean (at the end of a sequence having seen a lot of exceptional good results you probably get some bad ones to even it all out to the expected average) for a year chock full of awesome.

Scott shouldn’t be let near SF any more – he also oughtn’t be let near a damn thing he has any say in the writing of because he has no idea about stories himself. His skills were always about working with others writing.

The idea of sequel to BladeRunner is terrible in and of itself let alone how particularly horrid any effort by Scott will be even if the idea had some faint merit.
