Former National MP Mike Sabin has picked up a job as the head of a luxury resort in Northland.
Mr Sabin has been appointed chief executive of Peppers Carrington Estate, a five-star, 1000-hectare resort on the Karikari Peninsula.
The former MP for Northland will be in charge of plans to redevelop the property into the largest five-star resort in the country.

Oh goodness – what an interesting development.

So, on the one hand, Mr Sabin can look forward to working closely with his local MP (Winston Peters) on matters of mutual interest (Northland tourism). And, on the other hand, Mr Peters can look forward to meeting the Chinese owners of the business that Mr Sabin now works for. 🙂

That link to the DT on the incompetent Obummer WH is very interesting but the MSM won’t give it the airing it deserves.

In a nut shell though Obummer is resposible for much of Iraq being over run by ISIS. They allowed al maliki to grow into a divisive sectarian thug who alienated the Sunnis, and then as ISIS invaded Obummer deliberately waited till maliki was ousted (using that invasion as pressure point on maliki) before giving the air cover and power that was needed to stop the ISIS advance.

The incompetence and cynicism of that WH actually amounts to criminal liability in the genocide that followed the failure to air attack the advancing ISIS vehicle columns.

In a hypothetical case such as that I would be in favour of letting the wealthy Chinese tourists sort it out Nostra. After watching the action in Tiananmen Square I should think that the deranged Waterwoman wouldn’t pose much of a challenge.

They definitely have a promising track record in dealing with big mouthed nutters. 🙂

My bet is that they will trace back to the beginning of the end without much trouble. It will be pinpointed to be the time in Kuwait that Saddam Hussein tried to take out Bush’s mummy & daddy.

Did America’s 2003 Invasion of Iraq Create ISIS?

Not really, and more importantly, leaving Saddam in power would not have prevented the civil war waging across the region.

“The Todenhofer discourse relies on the very problematic, implicit assumption that Saddam’s regime would have been preferable to the current situation. Although the likes of Todenhofer might have enjoyed being a guest of the Ba’athists when he visited Mosul in 2002 or Damascus more recently, the Ba’athist Republic of Fear hardly seems better than the Islamic State of Terror.

Going by the gruesome numbers, the Iraqi Ba’athists (and now the Syrian Ba’athists as well) killed far more people. In 1987-88, almost 200,000 Iraqi Kurdish civilians died in the regime’s genocidal anfal campaigns. In 1991, similar numbers of Shiites perished as Baghdad crushed a rebellion in the south. Iraq’s 1980 invasion of Iran led to the deaths of more than a million people, and the invasion of Kuwait scarred yet another neighbor. Throughout the 1990s, Christians, Kurds and Turkmen were ethnically cleansed from places like Kirkuk. Under the sanctions and “oil for food” program of the 1990s, Saddam’s regime systematically prevented the distribution of food to southern Shiite parts of the country, leading to the deaths of some 500,000 children while Baghdad suffered from an obesity problem during the same years (and also while the Kurdish-administered north, under the same international sanctions plus additional sanctions from Baghdad, enjoyed a significant decrease in child mortality).

In 2003 Saddam seemed poised to emerge victorious from a crumbling, untenable sanctions regime. If he had done so, would he have refrained from resuming his various weapons programs and adventures in the region? This is a better counterfactual hypothesis than a false one juxtaposing the Islamic State’s rampage with a happy, stable Iraq under Saddam. When the Arab Spring rolled around, we might also have seen a Shiite uprising against Saddam, supported by Teheran and Damascus, that would have competed well with the present carnage in Syria. Instead of the Islamic State, we might be writing about the “State of Ali in Mesopotamia and its Environs,” which we could dub “the SAME.” At the same time that Saddam did his best to crush the revolt, he would no doubt have supported Sunni rebels in Syria the way he did during the 1982 Muslim Brotherhood uprising there.

One might just as easily blame the British and French for creating Iraq and Syria in the first place, however. The whole blame discourse does not appear particularly useful in any case. It sounds like a broken record played by those more interested in grinding their political axes back home than looking at the problems in the region. Foreign jihadis going to join ISIS today are not doing so because America invaded Iraq in 2003. Nor does this have that much to do with why Boko Haram, al Shabab, Abu Sayaf, the Taliban and others are massacring their way across other parts of the Muslim world.”

For that, if for no other reason, Bush 2 was the worst USA president…..ever!

Not really. The reality is that civil war between Shia and Sunni was brewing in Iraq well before the invasion, and would have erupted sooner or later, both in Iraq and in Syria.

The delicate power structure of the ME was already stuffed up (assuming it ever existed), and Saddam’s brutal repression of Shia Muslims was part of the problem.

Blaming Bush 2 ignores the reality of what was already happening in the region. It’s more of a fashion statement for liberals rather than a serious analysis of the causes.

No, because such a civil war would have (and has) allowed al-Qaeda type terrorists like ISIS with global ambitions to become major players. It was always going to be our problem as well, regardless.

The civil would have happened with or without the Iraq invasion, and such a civil war would have thrown up a group like ISIS, again, with or without the Iraq invasion.

Blaming Bush 2 is simplistic to say the least, and as I said, ignores the reality of what was already brewing in the region.

Modus Operandi of paid trolls: One Professional Russian Troll Tells All

It’s quite fascinating how they operate. They run in packs and have various roles on forums that make it seem as if they aren’t working together when they are. It’s like they’ve spent years observing internet behaviour have turned it into a method to get a particular point of view out there.

One of us would be the “villain,” the person who disagrees with the forum and criticizes the authorities, in order to bring a feeling of authenticity to what we’re doing. The other two enter into a debate with him — “No, you’re not right; everything here is totally correct.” One of them should provide some kind of graphic or image that fits in the context, and the other has to post a link to some content that supports his argument. You see? Villain, picture, link.

A pattern to watch out for.

2) The West had no need to be involved.

Again, that would have been the case regardless.

The same way Churchill did. By being prepared to fight for freedom, rather than, as Churchill’s critics wanted, sticking our heads in the sand and pretending that staying out of Continental Europe was a viable option.

There is no scenario in which we would not have had to deal with the mess. Doing nothing was not an option, and Bush’s invasion was a plus, because we can now operate militarily in Iraq against ISIS.

Has we not invaded Iraq, we would be in a much more weakened position.

Both? He only invaded one ME nation, and you forget that it was Saddam who started that by invading Kuawait.

If you mean Afghanistan, the most polite thing I can say is that is a fantasy of epic proportions. Al-Qaeda in Afghanistan was a threat to the world, a threat it carried out on numerous occasions from the early 90’s onwards, including the very first attempt at bombing the World Trade Center.

Leaving Al-Qaeda in Afghanistan alone would have been sheer insanity.

IF we can put the blame on any one person, and I think the ME issues are too complex to do that, the person who could reasonably be blamed was Saddam. His invasion of Kuwait destroyed whatever balance of power previously existed.

But, there is another possible candidate. Russia. The Russian invasion of Afghanistan was the real cause of the growth of radical Islam.

Well, I can tell you what’s kept me away from here lately – Netflix. So far, I’ve binge watched 2 seasons of Vikings and 3 of Falling Skies. This week, I’m watching Daredevil with my husband, so no binge watching. My 18 yo couldn’t cope with the slow pace and so watched the rest of the season last night and today. I did get him to mow the lawns, though.

I’ve been on sites where the trolls are very active. So, yes, I believe it’s highly likely that there are Russian paid trolls. It was inevitable that they would occur. It’s actually quite an ingenious way of taking advantage of internet forums and opinion shaping.

You do know that Radio Free Europe/ Radio Liberty are American Government funded propaganda outlets don’t you?

I know they are American Government funded. I wouldn’t call them propaganda.

Lucia forums like this are read by hardly anyone and are filled with garbage – paying people to post propaganda would not be a very effective way of spreading the message. Even Newspaper comment threads.

There are paid trolls and some are from Russia, there are probably some in NZ as well but their job is to post spam.

You see ads for them you know “Earn money at home with your computer……”

Wassilieff is the Germanised spelling of Vasiliev (thank you Mr Hitler) as Andrei posts.
It translates as son of Vasil (Basil)…. and is a fairly common surname in Russia.

I post under my own (married) name.
This is a public blog that I have no doubt will be mined for information in the decades to come ( by Pol Sci/ Social Sci nerds etc)
I wouldn’t want some confused person to identify me as the Russian troll on this blog.

Well possibly to your disappointment Pete but probably not to your surprise I’ve decided not to believe a credulous lightweight political analyst who understands nothing, so sorry about that.

But wouldn’t it be great were it true.

Wouldn’t the raging lefties just do pooze all over the place. They’d be absolutely, totally gutted and they’d vow to get revenge no matter what, that’s just who they are. Notwithstanding they fired the first shot. That’s just who the lefties really truly are.

But wouldn’t it be hilarious. Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. Poor widdle John. Down the woad. Just like that. Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.

And one notes Cam doesn’t say things he can’t back up. If some here hallucinate he’s not backed up his ‘I know who hacked me’ claim for example, then one notes that the police investigation isn’t yet concluded. And so let’s wait and see.

But I know Pete you can’t understand humans therefore you have no idea how Cam thinks therefore you wouldn’t know this because you’d put yourself in his place and think to yourself: gee, if I knew I would have told. And because you are who you are, you don’t understand the fallacy in that line of “logic.” Which is of course, duh, you’re not Cam, Cam’s Cam, and to understand Cam, you need to do much, much more than merely transpose yourself into his position, which is all you’ve ever been to do, right Pete?

I think the question on Freed is an interesting one. He got the Truth job because one of the Hortons sponsored him in, is my understanding. And that’s probably who is sponsoring Freed is my guess. But what’s changed? Maybe they’re waiting for this shake-up? Maybe his sponsors whoever they are have changed their tack.

As for sport fights, who cares. Haven’t you ever talked big just before you walked out to a big fight with the school bully when you knew everyone would be watching you? Oh, that’s right. Sorry, I forgot who I was talking to. You were probably in the chess club Pete, along with Peter.

It is of Patrick Moore the man who falsely claims to be a founding member of Greenpeace.
In it he makes the claim that roundup is safe to drink and the interviewer offers him some.
it is extremely funny to watch Moore back track when challenged to back his bluster.

The only problem is Whale has often posted rubbish from Patrick in denial of climate change yet Whale failed to disclose who was the butt of the joke in the video.

Try not guessing everything reid. It’s fairly well known (via NBR for example) who was financially behind Freed. Looks like they might have had second thoughts about the risks of backing a loose cannon.

How many examples do you want to prove you wrong? Shouldn’t once or thrice be enough?

Ah, and I’ve never been a fan of chess. You seem to have a similar failure rate as Slater.

Slater and Regan Cunliffe were driving Freed. They did at least some of the job interviewing. And presumably had to put some sort of investment in it.

But Tony Lentino was named as ‘six figure’ backer, something Slater didn’t confirm – nor deny – when given the opportunity.

And when it was claimed it was costing $600k Slater posted:

$600,000? That isn’t even 7 figures…WRONG again.

Ten staff on a news site with no advertising wouldn’t be cheap.

But I’m just “a credulous lightweight political analyst who understands nothing”, according to you, someone who guesses incorrectly quite often.

Slater probably did have a secret meeting with MediaWorks which resulted in the review of Campbell Live. It was just after the secret meetings he had with Colin Slade and his agent encouraging him to sign up to play in France and the people at Peppers Carrington Estate getting them to employ Mike Sabin. A busy week for him after having a secret meeting with Jordan Spieth before the Masters and organising the secret meeting with Richie McCaw and Rachel Glucina.

When Cameron was interviewed before his boxing debut he spoke seriously about having to trust your corner. That surprised me because the only person I know about to trust in the boxing ring is yourself, and the only person that is needed to be considered is the opponent to beat. Maybe Cameron was feeling let down at the time and saw his boxing corner as the mirror of his political corner, and it made him feel anxious.

He should have been able to trust his corner. And trust the fight promoter. But both let him go ahead and risk his well being and his life by allowing him to participate in an obvious mismatch.

He got his head pummelled and suffered brain damage not just due to poor advice from his corner but also through being used by the promoters with no care for his health.

Boxing has an awful reputation for exploiting punch drunk has-beens but in this case they exploited an ego drunk never-was.
