A Horse, A Chicken & A Harley

On the farm lived a chicken and a horse, both of whom loved to play together.
One day the two were playing, when the horse fell into a bog and began to sink.
Scared for his life, the horse whinnied for the chicken to go get the farmer for help!
Off the chicken ran, back to the farm.
Arriving at the farm, he searched and searched for the farmer, but to no avail, for he had gone to town with the only tractor.
Running around, the chicken spied the farmer’s new Harley.
Finding the keys in the ignition, the chicken sped off with a length of rope hoping he still had time to save his friend’s life.
Back at the bog, the horse was surprised, but happy, to see the chicken arrive on the shiny Harley and he managed to get a hold of the loop of rope the chicken tossed to him.

After tying the other end to the rear bumper of the farmer’s bike, the chicken then drove slowly forward and with the aid of the powerful bike, rescued the horse!

Happy and proud, the chicken rode the Harley back to the farmhouse and the farmer was none the wiser when he returned.
The friendship between the two animals was cemented: Best Buddies, Best Pals.

A few weeks later, the chicken fell into a mud pit, and soon, he too, began to sink and cried out to the horse to save his life!
The horse thought a moment, walked over, and straddled the large puddle.
Looking underneath, he told the chicken to grab his hangy-down thing and he would then lift him out of the pit.
The chicken got a good grip, and the horse pulled him up and out, saving his life.

The moral of the story, (yep, you betcha, there IS a moral!)?

An Irishman was walking home late at night and sees a woman in the dark shadows.

‘Thirty euros,’ she whispers.

Murphy had never been with a hooker before, but decides what the hell, it’s only thirty euros. So they hid in the bushes.

They’re going ‘at it’ for a minute when all of a sudden a light flashes on them.

It is the Garda.

‘What’s going on here, people?’ asks the cop.

‘I’m making love to me wife,’ Paddy answers sounding annoyed.

‘Oh, I’m sorry,’ says the cop, ‘I didn’t know.’

‘Well, neidder did I, til ya shined that bloody light in her face!’

Some years ago, there was a Mensa convention in San Francisco.
Mensa, as you know, is a national organization for people who have an IQ of 140 or higher.
Several of the Mensa members went out for lunch at a local cafe .
When they sat down, one of them discovered that their salt shaker contained pepper, and their pepper shaker was full of salt.
How could they swap the contents of the two bottles without spilling any, and using only the implements at hand ?
Clearly — this was a job for Mensa minds.

The group debated the problem and presented ideas and finally, came up with a brilliant solution involving a napkin, a straw, and an empty saucer.
They called the waitress over, ready to dazzle her with their solution.
“Ma’am,” they said,” we couldn’t help but notice that the pepper shaker contains salt and the salt shaker.”

But before they could finish ………. the waitress interrupted.
“Oh — sorry about that.”
She leaned over the table, unscrewed the caps of both bottles and switched them.

There was dead silence at the Mensa table.

Reminds me of the government, solutions would be so simple, but the brilliant minds have to make the situation difficult ….

How the Government manipulated public opinion to accept multiculturalism

From the mid-1980s, official rhetoric and official publications, including material used in schools, depicted New Zealand as a multicultural country of immigrants, with Maori identified as the first wave of immigrants to settle in New Zealand and establish themselves as tangata whenua (Indigenous people of the land). Malcolm McKinnon observed that a great deal of attention was paid in the official rhetoric and publications to immigration history at that time as a way of emphasising the legitimate place of non-Anglo-Celtic groups in the wider community, be they continental Europeans, Pacific Islanders or Asians. In the recast version of history, all New Zealanders were portrayed as immigrants, or of immigrant stock, and the population was portrayed as very diverse.[37]
A passage in the introduction to the 1986 Review of Immigration Policy, which treated immigrants from all parts of the world as a whole, illustrates this point:
New Zealand is a country of immigration. The Maori people established themselves as the tangata whenua after historic voyages of migration from countries in the Pacific. Large scale immigration from European countries, particularly the United Kingdom, over the last 200 years, changed the ethnic balance and altered the cultural base of New Zealand. This in turn has been modified by more recent migration movements from the South Pacific and from countries on the Pacific rim. Immigration has moulded our national characteristics as a Pacific country and given our community richness and cultural diversity. It has contributed to economic growth and prosperity, presented new challenges for New Zealand society and created pressures for social change. Immigration has been and remains an essential element in this nation’s development.[38]
A 1990 study for use in schools—An Immigrant Nation—provides another illustration. The publication stated that ‘[p]erhaps the most important thing about Maori immigration to New Zealand is that it took place so long ago’.[39] McKinnon commented: ‘Thus an implicit contradiction between “immigrant” and “indigenous” is solved by a time line (the contradiction was not addressed directly).’ He also noted that the study did not canvass British immigration after 1880, or the post-1880 population of British descent, but did discuss the twentieth-century history of Maori, not an immigrant population.[40]
The emphasis given to the immigrant origins of all New Zealanders and to the multicultural character of New Zealand distorts aspects of the country’s history. Maori were portrayed as simply one of many immigrant groups. The recasting of New Zealand as a multicultural society obscured the fact that British immigrants were strongly favoured throughout much of its history, with a variety of regulations restricting the settlement of non-British migrants. In the false presentation of history, New Zealanders of Anglo-Celtic heritage were rendered almost invisible because they did not fit the rhetoric about multiculturalism. To draw attention to such a large group would have weakened the case for New Zealand’s population being a varied one.[41]

The recasting of history in the way suggested by McKinnon is evident in a speech made by Dalziel at the 2002 launch of a book on women and migration in New Zealand history. The minister began by saying that the book was important and timely because it was ‘important that we know our history as a country’. It was ‘the essence of identity’ for ‘each of us to know who we are and where we have come from’. She highlighted her own immigrant roots, revealing that she had a distant non-British ancestor. She noted that all New Zealanders were immigrants and referred to the value of multiculturalism:
I often make the point that there is not one New Zealander that does not have a migrant story in their past. Each of us, or one of our forebears, including those who are part of the waka traditions, made a journey to make New Zealand home…Reflecting on our own stories and sharing them with each other is a great way to break down the barriers that stand in the way of celebrating the diversity New Zealand represents today…I often hear people saying that migrants should assimilate. I use the word integrate. It is not about swallowing up people’s culture and tradition. Moving to another country doesn’t mean we stop being who we are.[42]
In concluding, the minister elaborated on the ‘waka traditions’[43] and placed Indigenous Maori, descendants of British settlers who came in the 1840s and new migrants from Asia all in the same ‘waka traditions’. She noted that those traditions ‘not only explain origins but are also expressions of mana and identity’.[44]

Mana News editor Joe Trinder has made some accusations:

Last year Prime Minister John Key and Mark Weldon had a phone conversation in regards to John Campbell. Mr Key was overheard saying “I want that left wing bastard gone”. The prime minister had insidiously conspired with Mark Weldon to end John Campbell’s broadcasting career and have Campbell live taken off the air.

Mark Weldon’s crony appointment as the CEO of media works was made by John Key.

The decision was made by the National party caucus with strong influence from former radio works CEO MP Steven Joyce. This is another attempt by the National government to control the media and any criticism of its policies.

And he’s got evidence to back up his claims?

Viking.re the rates penalty.
Yes I agree it is a rort. Took it up with some Minister who just quoted the Act which as you say allows such a rort.
The council I talked to told me they needed cash flow and didn’t like people paying one sum at the end of they year although I think some Regional Councils are able to do that successfully.
The 10% is also a rort now that interest rates have dropped.It may be more than IRD charge.

I am well late to the debate and comment about Campbell Live and I have little to add to general noise of the impending departure of this program. But after watching tonight’s episode I am compelled to offer my thoughts. Campbell Live bears at much relationship to a current affairs program as candly floss does to food. It is utter emotional manipulation of the most egregious and vacuous kind imaginable. First story was about the wait women in Dunedin were experiencing for breast reconstruction surgery following breast cancer. 95% of the story was about what they were experiencing and their views. There was no context, no interviews with other DHBs, no attempt at partiality. Their stories may well be awful and tragic but watching this story, which included reasonably graphic photos of their post-surgery breasts, were we any the wiser as to what the facts were? No, of course not. And of course there was the gratuitous comment about how much was being spent on the referendum about the whether New Zealand should have a new flag. I know many here do not support the new flag referendum. But I doubt that anyone here would frame it as “Breast reconstruction surgery or a new flag.”

Next there was a story about the search for a long-lost plane crash in Westland nearly 40 years ago. A terrible accident and loss I am sure. But why search now? It was hinted that there was a sighting in some area that needed to be explored for the first time. Lots of footage from family wanting “closure”. fair enough. But why now? Who paid for this new search? What happened when the plane crashed back in 1978? What area was searched then? Nothing. No background, no context, nothing approaching journalism.

There was a story about a hunter, shot by his mate. As far as I could tell this story seemed like an excuse to show more gory footage of human wounds. Blood sells, eh? Gotta pimp the poor and the wounded.

And there was a story about Alison Holst. A tragic story to be sure but it was told over three segments during the show with each segment being sold for all it was worth. Click-bit is the term used on the web to describe how people are enticed to click on links with various emotional hooks and techniques. Same here. And such a shame because her story is tragic and resonates with many, many New Zealanders. She is an icon and deserves so much more that self-serving, pap served up by Campbell Live.

This isn’t serious television. The worst of it is not its left-wing bias – having a point-of-view is OK in my view. Many media platforms prove that quality and a coherent political bias can co-exist. But in Campbell Live we see the disdain for the intellect and the rational made manifest in a contempt for us as viewers. We are not treated as sentient, capable adults who can make up their mind about a particular issue. Instead we are treated as cannon-fodder for cheap and cynical manipulation by those who regard viewers with contempt. Dishing up utter pap night after night has its consequences.

I for one will not miss Campbell Live.

Satantango, well said. Too often we see a play on emotion to hide lack of depth and avoid critical analysis. Usually such stories include mood music to cue what emotion you should feel. Any story featuring kids will always be utter drivel.

In my view, the Solicitor-General SHOULD proceed with the retrial of John Banks.

If the candidate knew the identity of the donor, then the donation should not have been listed as ‘anonymous’, as I understand it.

How could John Banks rely upon his Treasurer to compile the list of John Banks electoral returns, especially donations, if the Treasurer was not present at all meetings where donations were discussed, or organised?

How could the signature of the former ACT Party, purportedly the Party of ‘personal responsibility’, effectively, in my view, be so meaningless?
