Also noteworthy is the endorsement of Dotcom, and below a comment from a dufus under the nom de plume of “Sanctuary” ( pffft), lifted from The Dim Post yesterday,basically advocating terrorism in the form of fertiliser bombs to unseat Key. Let’s hope the SIS/Police are awake!

It’s hard to be executed under federal law. The jury that convicted Tsarnaev will decide now if he lives 60 years in a cell or is strapped to a gurney and put to death like a household pet with arthritic legs. Both options feel medieval and there are no others.

While I am strongly to posed to the death penalty I hardly think that life without the possibly of parole is medieval. What does Jack Tame think – that this POS can be rehabilitated? Does he think that those injured and the relatives of those murdered should have to go through parole hearing?

NZ has yet to sentence anyone yet to LWOP yet. It is only a matter of time thanks to three strikes legislation.

It was disappointing that Peter Dunne wasn’t questioned more on recreational use of cannabis and not at all on medicinal use on The Nation.

But he seemed to be clear that he won’t be changing the law on recreational use, despite there being a review of the Misuse of Drugs Act at the moment.

He has also stated that smoking won’t be allowed for medicinal purposes. And he has suggested that the market is too small for drug companies to seek approval for cannabis based medicines – is this more to do with them not being able to patent cannabis?

It looks like, despite a lot of movement internationally towards relaxing cannabis laws, Dunne and the National led government don’t want to touch cannabis issues. So a was a Disappointing Dunne interview on cannabis.

Cannabis issues? Instead of pissing around with it like every other ‘issue’ we have –

Either criminalise it properly with long unpleasant stretches in the pokey for smoking, cultivating or selling

Or

Make it fully legal

Option one won’t make any difference to the vast majority of New Zealanders who don’t smoke it but may have had a toot when younger

Option two will destroy the country completely with even lower productivity and mental institutions full of dopeheads with brains ‘squirming like a toad’, more youth suicide etc etc

Another example of National not addressing one of the fundamental problems this country suffers: unmotivated loser stoners. For every ‘functioning dope smoker’ there are ten who do f*** all with their lives except sit in front of the TV eat pot noodles and play X Box

I’m reading about TV3’s new programming plans and I came across this little snippett:

MediaWorks news boss Mark Jennings said 3D would also deliver 10 30-minute investigative programmes under the sub-brand 3D Investigates, which has been given $567,000 of NZ on Air funding.

Why the fuck is a private broadcaster being given over half a million of our money? These people are entitled to try to make a profit, and good on them…. but I can’t see the rational justification for propping them up with taxpayers’ hard-earned dollars.

This goes on all the time with all kinds of programming. It’s bullshit and it has to stop.

The sale of Slipper Island is the result of poor immigration policy that allows New Zealand to be slowly sold out from underneath our feet.
For this Island to be sold to a ‘housewife ‘ from Auckland who is of a different culture and will most likely destroy this retreat with ‘development’ is a tragedy.

It fits in nicely with Amy Brookes latest excellent post on 100 days.

Whilst Key says ‘no way’, Nick Smith is ‘in negotiations’, so I can see more back of the marae deals. National seems incapable of saying NO, and the farmers have one more headache to face.

Is this actually true? Never really liked getting stoned myself and lost interest fairly quickly years and years ago, but I’ve known far more people who liked to get “high” from time to time than committed stoners.

‘Media Watch’ with Colin Peacock has just replayed a sound bite from Paul Henry’s new show, the one where he called the NZ Herald a bunch of twats –

I heard the remark go out live on air (remarked on it on this very blog) – BUT

Somehow, between broadcast on TV3 / Radio Live and rebroadcast on National Radio just now, THE SOUND BITE HAS ACQUIRED A WHACKY SLIDE WHISTLE SOUND EFFECT like whacky morning radio DJs used in the old days.

Now, why is this? I’ll tell you.

Media Watch have added it, clearly to make a disparaging point, and make it sound like Paul Henry is a sad old tool like Alan Partridge. Un-be-lievable!

Paul Henry, if you ever read this blog, bring it up on Monday morning and then ring up National Radio live and ask them why they did that. Can someone forward this to him if they know him.

There is an overload regarding WWI as every journo gets onto the ‘latest thing’ the way the media operates these days.
I served during the Korea War and fortunately remained at home but I saw those who had spent time in Korea as they came home to be demobbed. When I got out and the cold war continued I feared that I might be called up until I reached an age where I wouldn’t be. So I am not interested in publicly remembering those like my great uncle who died in the ‘Great War to end all wars’ but didn’t.

The only stoner I know who went that way got into it at 13 and did it heavily from then on because his parents didn’t give a fuck. And he rooted his mind as happens if you do something like that too early too hard. However that’s the only one and all the rest of them did it recreationally and some of them still do it and all of them are successful professionals.

Dope is nothing like other drugs. There is no hook like there is with meth or coke. This is what the politicians and the medicos refuse to acknowledge. The only people who believe this bullshit that it’s a gateway or some other bollocks are wowsers like Dunne who’ve never even tried it. The rest of the arseholes in this camp are lying their heads off about it because they’ve got a vested interest in keeping it locked away. And the media, as usual, is too fucking stupid to actually challenge them on telly about it. They just nod and pass on the bullshit about gateway as if its really true, because they’re idiots.

The amount of resources the police waste on it is significant. They’re not even following up most burglaries. So how about letting people smoke it if they want to and start following up on stolen property. Hows that for a deal? Oh, by the way, organised crime takes an instant massive hit in the finances as well, just as a side benefit. Would that be a good thing, or not?

There appears to be no let up to the greed of Maori and the appeasement by the National Govt.

Maori leaders have mounted a bid for effective ownership of a share of the country’s freshwater.

This would allow them, and other with water rights, to onsell it to those who need water for irrigation, hydropower and other commercial uses.

Talks between the powerful Iwi Leaders Group and the Government, fronted by Deputy Prime Minister Bill English and Environment Minister Nick Smith, are at a critical stage after ministers rejected a nationwide ‘Waterlords’ settlement along the lines of the Sealords deal over Maori commercial fishing claims.

The Government is adamant it will not hand over rights in perpetuity to Maori – but it may compromise by allowing regional councils to do local deals with Maori.

Farmers are worried that there will not be enough water to go around if significant quantities of freshwater are set aside for Maori.

In a Cabinet paper, Smith points to possible “catchment by catchment” deals at a regional government level. The Crown has acknowledged Maori interests and rights in freshwater but their extent and nature is at issue. The Government may set criteria by which local iwi can get preferential access to water, catchment by catchment, Smith says.

Ministers and iwi leaders held a summit at Waitangi during the February 6 commemorations, in a swift response to an iwi- commissioned report proposing radical ways to deal with freshwater and Maori claims. The report, by research group Sapere, proposed a nationwide settlement, an end to 35-year renewals of water consents. and a move to permanent rights and a market in tradable water rights.

Well Inandout one James Dunne has warned of a public backlash similar to the foreshore and seabed but his warning indicates more that it could happen.
Quite simply it should not.
Water belongs to no one and that’s the way it should stay.It certainly does not belong to iwi.
For Smith to go down this discussion path is very worrying and he should say NO.

It’s not up to the media and their naive, girly, delicate, hand-wringing 20 and 30-something journalists and sub-editors to decide whether or not they pubicise this matter lest the country get all angwy and wacist about it, heaven forfend. That’s not their fucking job. And yet, that’s what the &^%$#*ts apparently, have done. It’s a shame crowds of angry villagers with pitchforks and torches have gone out of fashion, isn’t it. They’re exactly what this situation demands.

In North Canterbury, Ngai Tahu have cut down the former Balmoral Forest with the intention of creating a super-sized dairy farm industry. Trouble is, ECAN have already allocated all the water available in the Hurunui catchment for farming. Without creating nutrient overloading, it is not possible to grant further water extraction rights in this area in the volumes required for such a huge increase in dairy industry. This is the reason why there are secret deals on going to give ownership to fresh water by Tangata Whenua – they can then re-write their own rules, claim back all the current allocations given legitimately to the long term local farmers, and set up their own industry. And we appear to be sitting back and being shafted without any say.

Not that I know of. The police use co ordination tests to screen out those they suspect of driving stoned & have the power to compel bloodtests of those who fail.

You can get around that by vaporising it.

Vaporising heats it on an element and it releases the THC since it’s got a lower melting point than the plant material. So the plant material doesn’t burn and carbonise, and you’re left with relatively pure THC vapour which is much healthier. Not to mention since THC is a fatty acid you can also eat it which is even better.

Several cases of babies being sexually abused and contracting sexually transmitted infections (STIs) have come to the attention of a Tauranga-based support service.

Last year 153 children aged 15 and under were referred to Bay of Plenty Sexual Assault Support Service for sexual abuse in the Bay. Of those, 69 were aged 8 or under.

Bay of Plenty Sexual Assault Support Service general manager Kylie McKee told the Bay of Plenty Times Weekend sexual abuse was getting worse in the Bay and the types of crimes were “incredibly violent”. The service had seen multiple cases of babies with STIs such as gonorrhea and chlamydia from sexual assault in the past 12 months. “It’s tough stuff. It’s the kind of stuff that makes you sick,” she said. “This is something that needs to be talked about. Anecdotally, only about 7 to 9 per cent of sexual crimes are reported. We’re seeing 350 people a year. What does that say about what’s out there?” It was disturbing how many of the service’s clients were children – about 67 per cent of referrals.

This strikes me as a ticking social time bomb.

Now, of all the family-related issues that Labour and the Greens could focus on, surely this issue is more important than school lunches?

Andrew McCarthy totally nails it on Obama’s non-existent Iran deal.

There is not, nor has there ever been, an Iran deal. The “framework” the president announced last week was just a stunt. As yet another negotiations deadline loomed with the president plainly unwilling to walk away despite Iranian intransigence, Congress appeared poised to end the farce by voting to stiffen sanctions. The “framework” is a feint designed to dissuade Congress and sustain the farce.

In reality, what we have is simply an Obama administration assumption and a timetable. The assumption is that Iran will become a nuclear-weapons power. The timetable involves dragging out the enervating negotiations-to-nowhere for as long as it takes to inure Americans to the prospect of a nuclear Iran.

I have a confession to make: I don’t follow with rapt attention the “er . . . details.” Oh, I hear day after tedious day of State Department flim-flam. But I can’t take the bargain jargon seriously. You know the old saw about how you just want to know what time it is but the guy instead drones on and on about how to build a clock? That’s Obama’s Iran negotiations.

Well, here’s what time it is: Iran has built its foreign policy around the goal of “Death to America” for the last 36 years. It continues, unabashed, to be the world’s leading state sponsor of jihadist terrorism — in particular, anti-American terrorism. It has killed and abetted the killing of Americans throughout the current regime’s existence. It is a totalitarian sharia state that, at this moment, is imprisoning at least three Americans. One of them, Saeed Abedini, has been sentenced to eight years’ incarceration for establishing Christian houses of worship, which the regime says is a threat to national security. The regime, further, has repeatedly vowed to exterminate Israel, our close ally and the only true democracy in the region.

With such a rogue state, there is only one negotiation a sensible nation — particularly the world’s most powerful nation — can have. You tell them that until they convincingly disavow their anti-American stance, cease their support for terrorism, release American prisoners, and acknowledge Israel’s right to exist as a Jewish state, that there is no point in discussing anything else.

This is not complicated. It is not, as Obama would have us believe, a call to invade Tehran at midnight and keep 300,000 American troops there for a decade or three. Jack sorry I missed that bit before. I understand the police have already deployed something to catch drugged drivers. I may be wrong but I think I’ve read somewhere that it works on a chemical reaction to a person’s sweat on their fingers, it turns blue or something.

Mr Whippy held up at gunpoint

Police are hunting two teenagers who held up a Mr Whippy ice cream truck at gunpoint in Auckland this afternoon.

The youths approached the truck at 3.10pm while it was parked on Hapimana Rd in Orakei. Inspector Kerry Watson told the Herald the pair approached the truck and, brandishing a small firearm, demanded money from a woman.

They fled on foot with a bag full of cash and credit cards. They were last seen heading towards Mission Bay.

Mr Watson said the two offenders were described as Maori youths aged between 15 and 18. Both were wearing light grey hoodies and one also had a green rain jacket on.

How disgusting. This is Mission Bay, isn’t it? Presumably children were playing in the area. I’d be a bit disturbed if some losers were wandering around Mission Bay armed with a gun.

Stephie -I just think the hypocrisy is hilarious. Most Obama supporters would be left-wingers who were against the bomb and even nuclear power was verboten. And we have had years and years of activists being against nuclear proliferation. But, now Obama has arranged to let the Iranians develop their nuclear program, including heavy water facilities to make it easy to produce plutonium, and even though the Iranians are still promising to wipe Israel off the map and push the Israelis into the sea, the previously anti-nuclear progressives have now gone quiet and suddenly decided nuclear is actually quite ok. Albeit maybe only for enemies of Israel? Do you think maybe progressives hate Israel, Stephie?

You need to recognise that Obama like Bush like Clinton and all the rest of them are operating to scripted agendas designed by the unelected puppeters who don’t consult us on their intentions. There are lies within lies and mirrors within mirrors and just because that’s the plan this doesn’t mean everyone involved is always operating to the same playbook. For example Obama’s opposition to Israel is happening because he’s a Muslim and he genuinely dislikes Israel. However notwithstanding in the eyes of the puppeteers Israel is a sacrificial pawn, it’s not really convenient to behave the way Obama’s been behaving toward it. But they can’t stop him because he’s the Pres. But it’s OK, because what he’s doing isn’t a showstopper and if it is why they’ll just take him out, same way they took out JFK. I’m just using that as an example to illustrate that uncertainties always arise, and things can always go many different ways.

Yes. Immediate assumption isn’t it they’re from Orakei so they know the area. Too bad they used a gun. Given the lousy money they got, probably a few hundy, that’s going to be serious for them. What’s an MRM??
Read on, more PC crap.

The MRM position has been created to provide leadership in turning police strategies such as The Turning of the Tide into action.

So far nine have been appointed, with positions yet to be filled in Eastern, Tasman and Canterbury.

MRMs hold a senior management role at District Leadership level.

They report to district commanders but also have a reporting responsibility to the Deputy Chief Executive Maori and the Maori, Pacific and Ethnic Services office at PNHQ.

All true Shawn but marijuana users don’t smoke forty a day either so the risk is not strictly comparable.

As a footnote, if they do smoke forty joints a day their lungs are going to be the least of their problems.

The problem tends to be compounded by the fact that many marijuana users are also cigarette smokers, so it’s a double whammy.

But the ill-effects of marijuana use is one of the reasons I think it should be treated as a health and addiction issue rather than a crime.

I’m skeptical of the “it’s not harmful” argument with regards to marijuana, but it is a legitimate point that the negative personal and social effects of alcohol abuse are much worse than for marijuana.
