“Because the FDA scientists were not satisfied thalidomide was safe.” Then science must not have been working properly or else the European scientists would have been more cautious.

Science does not have the answers second-by-second. Mistakes are made. The Sun is not fueled by coal, as the famous and important scientist Lord Kelvin thought once.

Science gets an approximation in the end. Better and better as time moves on.

As I pointed out, thalidomide did fool people for a while for several reasons, but in the end the truth emerged.

I don’t think, in this day and age, science could be wrong about MMR and autism. Too much study and too much time. Better methods.

Autism is something wrong in the brain that babies are born with. Perhaps parents don’t want to admit it to themselves, they’re “at fault”, preferring to blame “something, someone else”.

The fact that that case was settled is absolutely no proof that autism and vaccination are linked.

You have one stupid case of a girl whose preexisting conditions made her susceptible to adverse reaction given 5 vaccinations in one day.
By the way Hannah is not even autistic she is brain damaged from a mitochondrial enzyme deficit..

Griff, the court case was about the efficacy of the mumps component of MMR, being stated as better than they knew it was to get the contract.

USA government may have been better in the 60s than now.

The CDC is trying to say the autism/vaccine effect of that study is because of the requirement of vaccination for admittance to special care. They also say, “The findings revealed that vaccination between 24 and 36 months was slightly more common among children with autism, and that association was strongest among children 3-5 years of age.”

I suggest that when the association is strongest is when kids will enter special school. But the vaccinations were before that.

Sound hill this is the last time I will post on this thread.
There is absolutely no connection between vaccination and autism.
Autism is mostly genetic.
I funken know I am one.
Along with an identifiable thread in my family past and future.

That you dredge up ancient history. misrepresent study’s and ignore all the myriad of study’s that dont conform to your bias is a symptom of anti science nuttery I am familiar with in other similar debates on here.

Vaccination is safer than getting the disease.

If you dont vaccinate you are a bloody idiot.

The weight of serious scientific evidence is that vaccinations are on the balance safe, and certainly better than some of the diseases they prevent.

And Griff is right, there is no credible evidence linking autism to vaccinations.

Griff, autism can be associated with two valued thinking. Many people are like that and it is encouraged often. Good/evil sort of thing when what is good for the cat is evil for the mouse.

You are caught in thinking that I am saying vaccination is bad, because you only see bad or good.

We cannot have better without noting where improvements can be made.

And that one about science/anti-science. More two-valued tripe played upon by the market.

@soundhill1. No idea what you’re saying. If you have something to say then spit it out.

You’re not one of those dopey doctors who tell patients to have their “mercury” fillings removed and take hair samples to test for arsenic etc etc, are you?

It’s true that diseases seem to come and go but there’s no reason to suppose smallpox disappeared without human intervention. And no reason to suppose measles or mumps will either.

Dennis I think individual mumps, measles and rubella vaccines would be more protective than MMR.

Merck may be great science of a fashion putting them all in one shot, but it should not be done at the expense of mumps effectiveness. Also the large immune load should be watched out for. Don’t want the body to switch to attacking its own cells, pancreas &c.
