When Lundy is convicted for the second time Rowan will be gutted.The only evidence that a young fool
like Rowan would be prepared to accept is a videotape of the crime and jury members being present while
the crime was committed. Rowans tutor at Waikato Uni has a lot to answer for.

This fool Rowan is now on record saying it is “impossible’ that Lundy could be guilty.

Rowan does not understand our judicial system.

I have faith in our jury system.

It’s not an infallible system.

But it is way ahead of any other system.

All this bleating and whining about those ‘Big Nasty Aussies’ sledging our ‘Angelic’ boys..
I was at Eden Park for the round robin match against Australia and there was literally tons of abuse and insults thrown at the Aussie players, and not just the crowd- there were plenty of ‘send offs’ from the Kiwi players when the Aussies got out as well!
Don’t ruin what has been an amazing tournament with whining and excuses like the All Black fans always do..
Seems NZ can give it but can’t take it.

Sad thing is Penny it that when people dispute an invoice they normally pay what portion is undisputed and then argue the remainder. Your actions in paying nothing clearing indicates you are nothing more than a rates cheat who believes the rules don’t apply to them.

There has been accusations in the past that as a corruption watchdog you are a hypocrite. I don’t believe that myself. I think you are no more than a crazy old woman that is happy to steal off the auckland ratepayers.

The attacks on Grant McCallum in the lead up to the Northland candidate selection were personal and bizarre. What had he done to upset Slater (or his sycophantic writers) to deserve the labels he was given? Who did Slater want instead? At Osborne’s surprise selection I thought that there were some inner workings at play which Slater was part of. When Osborne became known I realised that wasn’t the case. What was it all about?

Or was it just a loose cannon going off ‘because it can’?

And opposite motives.
You appear to think he is for the downfall of Key.
I would suggest he is still commenting on stupid mistakes.

It is however very obvious that Slater thinks the damage yet to occur from the Sabin situation, is likely to happen all over again with someone else: a National MP, or high party official.
An area where Cameron has been painfully correct twice.

Well given that Michael thinks he will be found guilty then the chances of it actually occurring are next to nothing since he has yet to be right in a single prediction in any criminal case to date.
I don’t actually have an opinion on Lundys “guilt” or “innocence” so will accept the outcome of the juries verdict.
Thankfully the jury members are a good deal smarter than our resident loons Cricko and Michael aka dumbarse and use more proof than the sniff test and have preconceived ideas based on his “Hollywood performance” at the funeral or that he was banging a prostitute on the night!

Griff: If the Dog has solicited donations, these are no different to income, which one must declare and pay taxes. If audited, Dog would leak like the proverbial, so therefore there would be arrears, penalties, etc. Combined with outstanding, and unpayable rates, Dog is technically insolvent. Oh how sad!

Penny Bright openly points KB readers to an offshore-based website that provides specific details which circumvent the ‘Mike Sabin’ Court suppression order. She can’t do it under her own steam, of course. Instead, she abuses her welcome here and places DPF and his blog at potential risk of breaching the Court order.

I’m sure that DPF can take his own legal advice about the magnitude of any legal risks involved. But I would be pretty annoyed if – as a result of Penny’s customary contempt for the law – the Court took Kiwiblog out of action until its own suppression order is lifted.

Seriously though (I was serious last time too), my understanding is that the parliamentary parties divvy up the appointments to whichever committees, looking after interests, abilities and egos along with the normal wheeling and dealing. The government has the majority of members and the committee elects its chair and deputy.

I’d guess the whips and party leaders are involved to promote who they want, look after who they want and punish who they want. Does that mean the lackeys are told whom to vote for as chair?

Or maybe he is working towards the second coming of JC (Crusher Collins) – what rough beast, it’s hour come round at last, shuffles it’s way towards Bethlehem….

Given Slater has been kicking most of senior Nats in Northland by-election there don’t seem to be many other obvious candidates as a possible director/puppet master for the Anti-Key tirades.

An earthquake prone building will be defined as one that does not meet at least 34% of the New Building Standard (NBS).

The standard will apply to all commercial buildings, farm buildings, residential blocks of two or more stories and contain three or more units, motels, hotels and other accommodation providers (regardless of whether they are single story or not), fences, bridges, schools, churches, museums, sport grounds and community facilities.

A public register of earthquake-prone buildings will be created and maintained (by local councils).
Local councils will be required to undertake seismic assessments within five years of the Bill coming into force, and advise the property owner what is required to bring the building up to the new minimum standard, and when it must be done by.
In general any required work will have to be carried out within 15 years of the assessment, or the building demolished. However, this does not necessarily mean property owners can delay the work the full time. For example, the Whangarei District Council policy requires, “The buildings identified in these reports as falling below 33.33% of the new building standard be upgraded within 20 years [5 + 15 years], or at the time of the next building consent whichever comes sooner.” Any building consent application, even if for a relatively inexpensive interior fit-out, would trigger what could be a very expensive and uneconomic earthquake upgrade.

@ Viking its more her blatant disregard for the suppression order. Now I think suppression orders (except in very rare cases where it is the VICTIMS that may be identified) are stupid as most people find out who the people are anyway. However, she is putting DPF and his blog at risk. There are probably many that would like me silenced, but generally I will attack the message rather than the messenger (except in one notable case). I am quite happy to run a poll on whether I should be banned, (but please supply a valid reason). There we go – open season on Rightoverlabour….. 🙂

She’s been on this track for weeks now. She must not be granted licence to trash DPF’s valuable asset that has entertained and informed us for some 12 years.

Penny has now conceded (8:34pm) DPF’s entitlement to proscribe her legally-reckless comments on his blog. That’s a fair enough outcome.

She should be contacting DPF to have all the posts that are liable removed or edited to that effect. If she remains legal she can continue to mildly amuse with her attempts at wit, sarcasm, and denigration, hidden behind that veil of supercilious pleasantness that she has become a master at. (Meant in a caring sort of way)……. Freedom of speech is absolute, but there is an implied responsibility. No-one has the right to cause harm through the abuse of that right.

As an escapee from WO..I got fed up with his anti John Key, anti National stance which is getting worse by the day, I have been astonished that Penny Bright has been given such free reign here. She is utterly tedious, and monotonous, like a broken record and she STILL hasn’t paid her rates. Her constant sniping must be very irritating for readers of this blog.

@ lifesgood to be honest very few of us actually read her drivel. Sometimes we pause long enough to down tick if we are generous with our time, else it’s burn out the scroll wheel. In some respects I pity her, to be so consumed by her crusades must be very hard on one’s physical and mental health. I often wonder what went wrong in life in many of these people who become engrossed in some cause where rational thought and argument are replaced with a religious like zealotry that defies logic. Got to agree on WO. I was banned months ago and never bothered to beg for re-admittance. My crime was to use FFS in a comment and to allude to the stupidity of suppression orders as the word “Suppression” often made it easier to work out the name of the suppressed. However, it his Blog, he makes the rules, but I do think he is losing readers. It used to be a daily ritual, reading each post, now I merely glance through and return to sanity here at Kiwiblog.

while you are correct about the requirements to strengthen buildings to a NBS equivalent, you miss a few key points:

1/ to be below 34%NBS, you are most likely looking at a multi storey unreinforced masonry building, around 50 years old, or more.

2/ how buildings are designed for seismic action.
-without going into the minutiae of the design process, one of the considerations in deriving the design forces is the near fault factor, which reduces the design forces (as a percentage of G) as the distance from known, or major fault lines increases. This means that a 5-6 storey building in Auckland or Dunedin will require less strengthening (or perhaps none) than say, an equivalent sized building in Christchurch and Wellington.

3/ all the buildings you list would be categorized as at least importance level 2 in the design process, which essentially means there is a high likelihood that someone would loose their life, should that structure fail, therefore there is a need to ensure that prudent steps are required to reduce that risk.

4/ most buildings will be assessed with an IEP or similar. This tool was intended to triage buildings, and generally penalises older structures. Structures which on this assessment report as less than 34% would then undergo a more detailed analysis, using the existing drawings, if available from council.

From my experience in carrying out IEP’s, damage inspections and repair schemes, I think it highly unlikely that “the house you own” would attract much attention under these new requirements.

I should also think that your statement: All because in Christchurch buildings were built badly with shonky design on land that engineers warned should not be built on. is a gross compound generalisation, in parts true of certain structures, but not of the whole as you seem to imply.
