i-predict trading have Peters [NZF] at 71 cents = 71%confidence of victory
and Osborne [Nat] at 21cents= 21% confidence.

Seems a very wide margin. Commenters are saying too close to call.

MSM are once again concerned about Christians donating to their churches. Time they were balanced, telling us how much money Muslims are paying to their churches in support of ISIS, etc., and where is this money coming from, as very few of them are in work, or prepared to work? I would suppose the money they donate will be the hard earned taxes of already overburdened taxpayers, and Devoy wants more!

Odd goings on over on Whaleoil. Having posted an article ridiculing Mark Osborne for having made a perfectly reasonable remark that the greatest challenge he has had to face in his life is fatherhood no discussion has been permitted on the article.

Perhaps Slater is beginning to realise that his perversely negative views of the National Party, its leader and MPs are often so far at odds from those of the majority of his readership that he’s shutting down debate even before it can commence! Paranoia?

He’s an odd sort of bloke, isn’t he!

An interesting programme on Radio NZ’s Radio Labour Sunday programme just finishing at the moment (8.34am) on the international education industry in NZ.

One guy talked of “ghost schools” – including in NZ – that don’t provide education but are fronts to allow foreigners to enter NZ and work.

Foreign students are allowed to work 20 hours a week and full time in education holidays, and for a full year when they finish.

Educationists said because foreign students can then get an easy road to residency and ultimately citizenship, the work and immigration benefits are highly important for the NZ foreign student industry.

If some traditional National voters in Northland listened to this programme, they might be tempted to vote for Peters.

Sainsbury has two guests on this morning being two of the most boring PC people he has ever had on. The editor of Metro and a woman named Phoebe. They both want more refugees to ‘enrich’ our society, and Mark is a piss poor host for not pointing out that the modern influx is nothing like the Poles etc. (and Mark, the problem is not because of skin colour) If you are going to have a guest discussion you don’t bring in two Left wingers, who agree on everything. As far as the Metro magazine goes I wish it an early demise.

A remarkable interview by Kim Hill with the author Daniel Mendelssohn about his book The Lost : Six of Six Million where he investigates the disappearance of six members of his family living in Eastern Poland ( now Ukraine ) during WW2, He discovered the life and fate of 6,000 of the Jewish inhabitants of Bolechow ,including the six family members,who were sytematically mown down by machine gun fire by a contingent from Einsatzgruppen B just outside the town in 1941 Only 48 survived .

A witness told the author how she had to try and drown out the horror of the rattle of machine gun fire at the execution grounds fire by upping the pace of her sewing machine foot treadle .

Also the interview covered the vexed and troubling issue of the willingness of many members of the local population to collaborate willingly ,with the SS ,in murdering Jews in occupied Soviet Union and Poland.

National’s Northland buy-election candidate Mark Osborne doesn’t appear in the TVNZ studio for the one and only Q&A debate between the two campaign front runners, because he needs to have National Party Northland Campaign Manager Steven Joyce, out of sight, but by his side, to help apparently provide ‘sock puppet’ assistance in answering the hard questions?

Even more pathetic, in my opinion, was Ms Boag’s turbo-drive spin, trying to defend the politically indefensible – National’s abject failure to front their Northland candidate, Mark Osborne INSIDE THE STUDIO, at today’s Q&A debate?

Mark Osborne’s political inexperience, and amateurishness, in my opinion, was publicly exposed for the world to see.

I for one, am still wondering why the National Party chose Mark Osborne, the former Electorate Treasurer of former National MP for Northland, Mike Sabin, as their Northland candidate?

Seriously?

Given that a significant number of (former) National Party Northland voters are apparently NOT happy with the sudden and unexplained resignation of Mike Sabin, and the associated lack of transparency surrounding these events, wouldn’t you think that National would have selected someone who had as little association as possible with Mike Sabin?

A ‘clean break’ – sort of thing?

Just saying ….

Still waiting for the Minister of Police, Michael Woodhouse, do the decent thing, and tell the public exactly WHEN the Police advised, under the ‘no surprises’ policy, that National MP Mike Sabin was being investigated by Police?

I do hope that LOTS of Northland voters ask ex-Wall Street banker, (part-time) Prime Minister John Key, THAT hard question, when, in a final act of desperation, he flies back to Northland to BEG disgruntled (former) National Party members / voters to vote for political newby Mark Osborne?

(PS: It didn’t work in the 2011 Botany by-election …..)

Michelle Boag is a superstar. A lone voice this morning on Q&A with two avowed Left-wingers and two reporters who smiled knowingly or contradicted her whenever she said anything.
How come their panels are so one-sided? How do they get away with feeding us so much misinformation and propaganda?
I thought it was appalling and just glad Ms Boag was able to speak up and refuded to be silenced by the overwhelming opposition to everything the government is doing.

And I wish TV would stop asking silly random questions of politicians. It neither informs nor entertains.

In these times of severe stress on taxpayers and gummint accounts how the hell can we afford the luxury of these human rights or race hate commissioners? A complete waste of hard earned taxpayer money.

If National had any balls at all they’d have long ago had a root and branch reform of the whole public sector and the chance to do it was the GFC, alas gone.

New Zealand really is a socialist country with a middle class thinking that it’s property portfolio will be its pension pot.

When was the last time this country experienced a recession? (When was the last time unemployment was 10% or higher?) I guess a whole generation has no idea of what a slump is like.

That Insight was very enlightening.
Any one interested in what is happening to immigration into this once fine country should listen to the red radio programme.
Reading between the lines it is clear education is being utilised to gain entry by far too many through being so-called students.

It seems like a giant sham and someone should be looking into this backdoor immigration and the destabilising effect it could have on New Zealand.
The suggestion that 100,000 could come in next year was scary stuff.

In the BOP it was 1993-4-5 and many many left for Australia leaving a huge surplus of houses and Landlords both actual and by accident renting to a lot of scum as any money was better than none and you couldn’t sell the house. No Buyers. didn’t really change till 1996.

11.00%+ was the official number I recall.

The early 1990s (some 21 years ago) was probably the last time there was a significant downturn.

I tells ya’, here in Auckland, the cafes are full and everyone in the Eastern suburbs looks so damn affluent. Houses are going for silly prices. Banks are falling over themselves to lend. The town is awash with cashed-up foreigners (it seems). I have lived though bubbles before, and this is definitely one. (Of course, it’s impossible to know when it will burst.) So many people have their fingers in the pie that they just don’t want the party to ever stop. But it has to, at some stage.

Heaven help Auckland if property confidence drops off (for whatever reason).

SPC, it’s of course not the first time anyone’s asked the question, so it’s not surprising there’s reams of material on the interweb about how the issue was (apparently) overcome. However, this is precisely what you’d expect, isn’t it. Duh. Of course there is. It’s a bit like the NIST report that explains how the twin towers collapsed through the path of most resistance at close to freefall speed on 911 thus demonstrating the laws of physics don’t always have to apply everywhere but they’re apparently sometimes optional. The thing which discerning people recognise my friend which you apparently don’t, is that just cos it’s on the interweb from an official body, doesn’t automatically make it so.

And none of this changes the fact that in the video the NASA engineer is talking about it as if its still a problem which needs to be overcome. One thing that puzzles me is that the thinnest parts are where the poles are, and obviously if you shoot through there, you don’t get the gravity boost from circling the planet. So if that’s what Apollo did, then how come that’s never been explained. It’s always been explained in all the docos etc as if they shot from the equator, which means of course, the spacecraft then traverses the thickest part of the belts, doesn’t it.

As I said, it’s a good question.

I’m not surprised however that both you and stephie in your all-knowing hysteria fail to understand the nature of it and just reach immediately for the first thing in the google list which satisfies your preconceptions. That’s how you both think, I know. The thing that’s surprising, is how tremendously superficial and naive you both are. It’s like both of you have the minds of someone around the age of say, a twelve year old, you’re that easy to fool.

Last night TVNZ led their main news with the cricket and without belittling the great achievemnet ,the wonderful spectacle and sheer joy of watching that performance ,it was a game of cricket and not, IMHO suitable for a lead item of news.

There is a sports section in the “news” and that’s where that belonged.

In Singapore, their business news lasts about 20 minutes…and the sports about 30 seconds.

In New Zealand it is the other way around.

Priorities. I’m not saying who is right and wrong. Just what is.

Although before we go complaining about the shallowness of “bread and circuses”, didn’t Clement Atlee opine that he read the front pages of the newspaper to learn of human failure, and the back pages to discover human triumph? Yesterday’s cricket wasn’t important in the great scheme of things…which is why it is important.

Re news worthy stuff Not so much the sport which is news worthy, but the guy who is having a second date… Although it does get to me that sport will be the lead item on the news then to be re hashed later in the sport section…. The other day stuff had as a lead item some skank in the USA that had shagged half the country, written a book about it and wondered why her marriage ended, or something along those lines.

This can apply to religious/cultural/national/individual renewal in general as well as to the particular meaning it has within Christianity.

Yes, according to Exodus 20.

But the Deuteronomy 5 version gives the motive as remebrance of deliverance from slavery in Egypt. Which makes it also programmatic, and pointing forward to the day when the full harmony of creation and the curse of “hard labour” first introduced in Genesis 3 is restored.

Hence the appropriateness of Christ healing on the Sabbath.

And the validity of transferring much of the content of the OT Sabbath to the Lord’s Day.

I don’t know stephie. It’s a question I’ve never bothered to look closely into enough to reach a conclusion one way or the other.

This is what I call having an open mind.

I suspect that I know much much more about why some people allege they didn’t happen than you or most of the people on here, but that still isn’t enough for me to draw a conclusion one way or the other.

The only thing I know for sure is that it’s roaringly mental to go around hallucinating you already know the answer, simply because, in your profound ignorance, “thousands of people would have HAD to have been involved and some of them, at least one of them, would have HAD to have talked,” if they were faked.

This is, I daresay, the exact and precise reasoning most people do in fact use to justify their belief that they did actually happen. Adopting that line of reasoning to me, just demonstrates a complete and utter lack of intelligence, for various reasons.

Is Science (particularly the “hard” sciences of Biology, Physics, Chemistry and Astronomy) the only means of determining truth?

If you include mathematics under the science umbrella the I’d say that science is the only discipline that has produced credible and verifiable answers.

One thing I don’t get about Amazon’s drone delivery.

How come stick to one’s knitting doesn’t apply here?

If drones are so great for delivery, then why not leave it up to say UPS to develop it?

And why should a retail outlet like Amazon give a damn about the delivery techniques for its products, given that currently it’s a simple on-charge and the market can take care of the issues if there are any, which there don’t appear to be, since there seems no evidence that Amazon’s sales are suffering because of all these delivery charges which customers can’t afford. That’s not happening, is it.

So why is it doing this at all?

Okay, we’ve virtually had the advantage of One Voice for decades with a caucus of National Party MPs from Northland representing Whangarei, Northland and Rodney. So why do we now need one voice? Where did having one political voice get us?

What about the disciplines we use to study ourselves?

For example, how about Economics, which, even though it employs Mathematics, is primarily a study of human behaviour?

Or what about Philosophy, and its hand-maiden, logic and rhetoric? Without those you have no way of even comprehending, let alone testing “credibility” and “verification”?

Archaeology? Uses Biology, Physics and Chemistry, but it is ultimately an independent discipline in and of itself.

And taking that a step further, Textual Critiscism, which relies on the fruits of Archaeology. Unless you want to say there is no way of truly credibly verifying the existence of the Ancient Egytians, Canaanites, Assyrians, Babylonians, Persians, Greek and Romans. Because, let’s face it, you can’t do that by means of Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Astronomy alone.

And neither can a jury reach a decision by those disciplines alone. So do we vacate each and every ‘Guilty’ verdict because we can never really know for sure?

OK, guess who the United nations just labelled as the country who is #1 in violating women’s rights? Iran? Wrong. Pakistan? Think again. The U.N has just labelled Israel as the world’s #1 violator of women in the world.

Guess who is the number one violator of women’s rights in the world today? Israel. Violating the rights of Palestinian women.

At least that is the view of the UN’s top women’s rights body, the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW). CSW ends its annual meeting on Friday, March 20 by condemning only one of the 193 UN member states for violating women’s rights – Israel.

Not Syria. Where government forces routinely employ rape and other sexual violence and torture against women as a tactic of war. Where in 2014 the Assad regime starved, tortured and killed at least 24,000 civilians, and three million people – mostly women and children – are refugees.

Not Saudi Arabia. Where women are physically punished if not wearing compulsory clothing, are almost entirely excluded from political life, cannot drive, cannot travel without a male relative, receive half the inheritance of their brothers, and where their testimony counts for half that of a man’s.

Not Sudan. Where domestic violence is not prohibited. There is no minimum age for “consensual” sex. The legal age of marriage for girls is ten. 88% of women under 50 have undergone female genital mutilation. And women are denied equal rights in marriage, inheritance and divorce.

Not Iran. Where every woman who registered as a presidential candidate in the last election was disqualified. “Adultery” is punishable by death by stoning. Women who fight back against rapists and kill their attackers are executed. The constitution bars female judges. And women must obtain the consent of their husbands to work outside the home.

Nope. Would be a Saturday evening, 6pm by our reckoning. Which is when the First Day of the week in the Jewish calendar commences. “It was evening and it was morning, Day One” (Genesis, 1: 5).

It’s something I actually do take for granted based on the facts, evidence , commonsense and empirical data that is available out in the world .Much like the earth is a sphere circling the sun or gravity – what goes up must come down etc .

Do I take it that you are not convinced and remain skeptical about these and related natural phenomena ?
