Senior reporter at NZ Herald David Fisher has written about an Amnesty International poll on spying (NZ and global): Most Kiwis reject Govt spying – survey

Of course most people would prefer not to have all their communications monitored and stored.

But Fisher doesn’t disclose that the poll is being used in the launch of an anti-spying poll.

And he didn’t point out it made false claims about legislation in New Zealand on surveillance and oversight.

Do these left-wing no hopers have no consciences, so long as they can get to a trough funded by ratepayers/taxpayers/unionists? The words in the title line for this post are in quotation marks because they are indeed a quote. They’re a quote from former Labour MP and Minister Dover Samuels who will not be giving his party vote to Labour this year; the Herald reports:

Former Labour minister Dover Samuels says he won’t be voting for the party at the election.
He cited the party’s opposition to the Puhoi to Wellsford extension and Leader David Cunliffe’s “prima donna grandstanding” over the issue of sexual violence.
The former Maori Affairs Minister who now serves on the Northland Regional Council confirmed the Herald this morning he did not intend giving his party vote to Labour.
“Labour’s moved away from me, I’ve never moved away from Labour. I’m as staunch of the principles of Labour as I ever was, since the days of Mickey Savage.”
He indicated he would be voting for NZ First.
“Winston Peters has been somebody that certainly has been an advocate of the regions and I’m a regional councillor and I find that spokespersons for the Labour Party have really turned their backs on some of the initiatives that the Northland Council have been advocating.”
He pointed to Labour’s plan to indefinitely postpone the Puhoi to Wellsford extension which it derides as “the holiday highway”.
” I don’t know where they got that from but the Puhoi road is integral to Northland’s economic future.”

The Puhoi to Wellsford Road of National Significance is a no-brainer. The events of the last ten days have shown how vulnerable road access to Northland is. And the section of road between Puhoi and Wellsford is one of the worst sections of State Highway One in the North Island. A major upgrade is years overdue.

Labour and the Greens do themselves no favours with their “holiday highway” bleats, an obvious reference to John Key owning a beach house at Omaha. But for the people anywhere north of Puhoi, the road is their lifeline to New Zealand; especially those who are in the business of getting their products to customers.

Dover Samuels is going to give his Te Tai Tokerau electorate vote to Labour’s Kelvin Davis, who also supports the Puhoi to Wellsford RONS. So he should, especially if Labour has been sending out coded messages that voters should ensure MegaMana should be a part of the 51st Parliament. But instead of wasting his party vote on Winston First, we reckon Dover Samuels should give it to National; the only one of the major parties that already has a plan and a timeframe to build Puhoi to Wellsford. This will create jobs in the construction phase, and along with other roading initiatives announced a few weeks ago, greatly improve Northland’s roading network.

Those three links provide unassailable proof that Puhoi to Wellsford has been on the radar for six years, and that it’s not “made up” or a “blatant election lying ‘BRIBE’” as Ms Bright, the lily-white watchdog alleges. It is SHE who is playing games with the truth, and she ought to be ashamed of herself.

But wait, as they they say on the infomercials; there’s more. Tracey Martin is the NZ First deputy leader, and she lives a lot closer to Northland than Winston Peters does, or will. Here’s what Ms Martin had to say prior to the 2011 General Election:

She says that, in order to benefit from the Auckland Plan, Rodney needs multi-modal transport, including the Puhoi to Wellsford highway (a commitment backed by party leader Winston Peters) and a Northern Rail freight link, that should be extended to Marsden Point.

On projects such as Penlink, Tracey says she would follow the will of the majority.
“If I’m the local MP and we didn’t campaign on it, my party expects me to come back and find out the majority view of the people I represent.”

Check out the words in bold, and especially those in brackets; Ms Martin is stating clearly that Winston Peters supported Puhoi to Wellsford in 2011. How can it now be “made up” or a “blatant election lying ‘BRIBE’” as Ms Bright alleges? It’s simple; it can’t be, and it is Penny Bright who is telling lies.

And lastly, here’s what Tracey Martin, now deputy leader of NZ First said in her Maiden Speech on 8 February 2012; this link comes from NZ First’s own website:

So that is my job! To challenge, question, draw attention to issues, debate and propose alternatives.

Some times that might mean a challenge to individual members.

Such as the elected members for Helensville and Northland.

It might be a challenge to work with those community and elected local government representatives to address the high social deprivation scores of seven and eight in those electorates.

To implement solutions to the lack of alternative education, access to tertiary or trade education and high youth unemployment these communities suffer.

To help those business communities push forward and gain recognition as satellite and regeneration towns so they can encourage greater economic development and through that employment growth.

Or it might be to challenge the elected member for Rodney to remember his verbalised support for the projects of Penlink and the Puhoi to Wellsford Highway with full retention of access at Puhoi.

Penny Bright’s attempts to distort the truth do her no credit whatsoever. But that’s what happens when you jump into bed (politically speaking) with a venal, self-serving, economical-with-the-truth politician like Winston Peters; you get tarred with the same brush.

I won’t however hold my breath waiting for Ms Bright to apologise for her blatant lie; political hacks and zealots never apologise, even when they are caught bang to rights. Of course a REAL anti-corruption and transparency watchdog would, so where does that leave Penny?

Chuck – And worse still this lawyer smuggling stuff to a prisoner (which was a gross breach of trust as an officer of the court) has imposed a continuing cost burden on taxpayers. Corrections has had to put more controls on lawyers visiting remand prisoners to discuss their pending trials which will boost Corrections and legal aid costs. In my opinion the profession has been far too lenient on itself with lawyers who have had repeated trust account issues being able to continue practicing.

Ms Bright will jump into bed with anyone so long as they share her dislike for John Key.
Her allegations that Coleman was engaging in blatant lies over the Community Health Office simply illustrate that she does not need much in the way of evidence or fact to engage in dirty politics. Her refusal to back down over that issue illustrates that apologies are things that everyone else must engage in but that she is above such a notion.

Quite so Nookin; she is brazenly supporting Peters, simply because Peters winning Northland may embarrass National and John Key, whom she clearly despises. Any objectivity she may have had, and any right to claim the moral high ground has gone out the window.

One of Whaleoil’s Rules of Politics is this – When you wrestle with a pig, two things happen; you both get dirty, and the pig enjoys it. In this instance, Winston Peters is the pig, and he doesn’t care who he gets down and dirty with; it’s all just a game to him. Whilst part of me is surprised that Penny Bright has allowed herself to be used by Peters, given his lengthy dodgy past, I guess the bottom line is that she is so desperate to discredit John Key, she’s prepared to scrape the political barrel.

I have no doubt Penny Bright has stood up for some useful causes in the past, and as an Auckland business ratepayer I support her attempts to get greater transparency, if not her methods of doing it (withholding rates for seven-plus years). But her credibility today is shot to pieces, and she only has herself (and Winston Peters) to blame.

BooHoo ….somebody on radio hoping to rant and rage against the government instead had to rant and rage because nobody would speak to him and answer his silly pointed questions …. then eventually when the Police spokesman did come on air he tried to make his point despite the evidence that it was manufacturing problem rather than an attack on the safety of the dear babes.
Now it is getting cold in the morning I am tempted to stay sleeping rather than turn on the radio.

One of the queer ironies about that Northern Ireland cake story is that in NI so called same sex marriage is illegal. The cake shop refused (on conscience grounds ) to endorse a call to illegality and yet were then threatened with a prosecution, for upholding the law!

Human rights legislation in the UK is a disaster. It has primarily endorsed the rights of dangerous criminals to reside there and ignores the wishes and rights of the people.

Thanks for your interest.

I am in the process of making a complaint about a opposing lawyer for misleading the Court as well as not treating me as a self-represented litigant with respect and courtesy as required under the Lawyers and Conveyancers Act (Lawyers: Conduct and Client Care) Rules 2008.

I will let you knew how I do. So far I have been successful with the NZLS, the DC and the HC.

What need to change is judicial accountability. No one should be on $300 to $400k with no accountability. Judges are expected to administer the law without fear, favour or prejudice. Those who do not should be held to account.

Particularly appalling was

The second, which the tribunal called a “very serious matter”, came after Murray acted for her then partner in a domestic-related matter.

When the relationship ended she then communicated directly with her former partner’s wife, disclosing confidential information. She was censured and fined $5000.

After that same partner committed suicide, she invoiced his estate for $67,500 in legal fees, despite numerous emails and communications showing she was acting for him at no cost.

She was fined $10,000 and ordered to cancel the fee.

The tribunal noted the “tragic circumstances of this man’s death” were relied on by Murray as a mitigating circumstance in her defence of the smuggling charge.

What I find most interesting is that the GAY front wants to share their lifestyle choice with all of us, and make it seem a normal choice. HOWEVER, when high profile gay men (Dolce & Gabbanna) express their opinion that the traditional family model (Mother & Father) is the only family model that is valid & that IVF babies are synthetic…..all hell breaks loose, High Profile poof Elton John calls for worldwide boycott, and gets other celebs on board spouting all sorts of negative stuff against D&G personally……Double standard maybe ? I’m throwing it back at Peters and Ms Bright, having provided conclusive proof of the untruth of Bright’s claim on Peters’ behalf that “there was never a planned Puhoi to WELLSFORD motorway”. Ed Snack is right in that most NZ meat works first electrically stun animals to be killed then bleed them to death in halal fashion. However, one small works rejects this.

@ Tauhei Notts – now might be a good time to get a lazy tenner on the Black Caps at better than six to one. There is still a lot to happen in this World Cup, and I would not completely rule out Pakistan causing an upset tomorrow night against Australia. Likewise, the match in Wellington on Saturday (and I am SO looking forward to being there!) could go either way if Gayle or Samuels gets runs. I am confident though that the Black Caps will win their way through to a semi-final against South Africa which should be a fantastic match.

On the other side of the draw, everything points to an India vs Australia semi-final, which should be another fantastic game. The two sides who make next weekend’s final in Melbourne will have done so in merit.

Teens stood down from school after attack on gang member

Seven teenagers who attacked a gang member who went to their school allegedly looking for a fight, took the “law into their own hands”, the school principal says.

The incident, which occurred at Trident High School in Whakatane on Monday, attracted a crowd of onlookers as the man was kicked and punched, the Whakatane Beacon reported.

The 22-year-old victim was arrested for breaching his bail conditions and was trespassed from the school, while two others were trespassed in an effort to calm the situation.

The year 11, 12 and 13 students involved have been stood down and would attend a disciplinary meeting on Friday involving school staff and police youth aid officers.

Principal Philip Gurney said the man, a member of the Crips gang, had come to the school allegedly intent on assaulting a year 10 student he believed had verbally bullied his sister.

Quite right SPC; Warkworth to Wellsford is yet to be consented, and there is as yet no timetable for its construction. But that’s not what Penny Bright said. Her comment last night was unequivocal:

That was just ‘made up’,and in my view, a blatant election lying ‘BRIBE’.

Ms Bright is, of course, totally wrong. Puhoi to Wellsford was first flagged as part of the RONS programme in 2009. Since then, Labour and the Greens have attacked it as the “holiday highway”. But according to Tracey Martin, her leader backed the Puhoi to Wellsford RONS as far back as prior to the 2011 General Election. How could he have possibly have done that had the road suddenly appeared as “a blatant election lying ‘BRIBE’” in March 2015?

Penny Bright is absolutely off the mark when she states “there was never a planned Puhoi to WELLSFORD motorway.”, because clearly there WAS a plan, and worse for Ms Bright’s credibility, the man she is running interference for actually supported the plan!

wreck, I am actually disappointed in my decision to invest in the Genesis float. Because of the anticipation and subsequent over-subscription for the Genesis shares, the price of the Meridian shares fell to $1. Over the next year Meridian has doubled in price to $2. A 100% return. In hindsight it was obvious that Meridian shares had become undervalued and if there was a National victory that stock would return a large CG.
