Ko No 1 in the world
The Herald reports:
Lydia Ko is the number one golfer in the world after finishing second in her opening tournament of the year today.
The 17-year old missed a chance to win the Coates Golf Championship in Florida today after a double bogey on the 17th hole – handing the tournament to South Korea’s Na Yeon Choi.
However second place was enough for Ko to become the youngest golfer ever -male of female – to be ranked number one in the world.
It’s an incredible achievements when any Kiwi makes No 1 in the world in a globally competitive sport. By that I don’t mean rugby, netball, etc but the sports where every major country competes seriously such as tennis, golf, football, athletics, cycling and swimming.
So making No 1 for golf is an amazing achievement. Doing it at age 17 is just even more staggering. A huge achievement that so many Kiwis are proud of her for accomplishing.
