If Muslims are too dangerous to be let out of the country ,then why the heck did we let them in in the first place?

In part because we cannot base immigration policies on religious affiliation, as that would set a dangerous precedent.

In theory though the government could simply make a kind of blacklist of countries that that we don’t accept immigrants from. This would achieve the desired results, more or less, without undermining religious freedom (which includes of course the right to have no religion at all).

My understanding is that we did so old chap because it was ‘politically expedient’ to do so; it suited H Clark’s career-aspirations in respect of the UN to have New Zealand as being a welcoming country for ‘homeless’ refugees from the NE Africa / Middle East area , especially those from Somalia, a people group with such a bad reputation that no-one else in the West would touch them with a 30 metre pole. She knew that that action would be favourably looked-upon by those who control such things (as it was). As she is ‘God-less’ herself, and ‘wedded’ to an ideology which is intent on destroying any religion but its own, the belief-systems that these ‘refugees’ brought with them was likely an irrelevance, with the ‘numbers’ being all important to her ambitions.

Clark would neither have cared about or been in the least bit interested in the consequences of her actions. They were merely ‘stepping stones’ to a ‘higher calling’. Nothing has changed.

Not surprising coming from a known coward, but a relief in a way in that such responses will probably be far easier on the mind than the usual non-comprehending time wasting hogwash that masquerades as comment. Why everyone hate on Muslims, at least we are not buying out your country with all it’s guts. Muslims are very honest about our method of subjugating the infidels. Unlike the Chinese and Jews. @waikatogirl: Penny’s face was on a poster nailed to a fence in Howick…. it would have been during one of her (numerous) unsuccessful forays into local politics. Indeed, IIRC, she ‘attracted’ fewer votes than the number declared invalid.

The car has since moved on, but I’m sure I lost a few months wear from the tyres in just a few seconds. But my enduring memory is that of being overtaken by the local great dane as we both headed along Cook St for the safety of Howick Village – the dog was yelping so badly I could hear it above the noise of the V8 being held near the red line. I wondered for an instant whether I had run over its tail, but found out later it had been totally traumatised… the neighbour knew the dog’s owner and apparently the poor thing ran straight home and hid under the owners house for nearly a week. It took the lure of a juicy, 16oz porterhouse to get him back into the sunlight….

There are scars to this day…..

Mr Abu, the head banging policeman from Taihape, must be confident he won’t be transferred elsewhere because he wants to stay in the town and tend his mosque. Presumably if he is the middle of a criminal investigation and the alarm goes off, he can excuse himself and toddle off to the prayer mat. If he is transferred to another small town, will he open another mosque, and continue his cause? And also, would a Christian cop make the news for attending a church?

Roy Fredericks being very good indeed in the field.

I could throw in the name Sir Gary Sobers, but as there was NOTHING that man could not do on a cricket field (bat, bowl seam, finger and wrist spin, as well as a great close-in catcher and out-fielder and captain) that is nothing original.

I wasn’t aware Fredericks was so highly rated as a fielder. More famous for the famous onslaught against Lillee and Thommo in Perth in 1975-76, probably the greatest innings of its type – Nathan Astle may have scored more runs against England in Christchurch, but there was no way the bowling attack and type of wicket that day compared with Frederick’s feat.

Didn’t Viv Richards, who started his career at the same time Fredericks was winding down directly run out about 3 or so of the Aussie batsmen in the 1975 World Cup final (Fredericks out hit wicket that day, treading on his stumps having typically hit a 6 off a hook shot!).

I notice that in the U.S, law students from Columbia have been offered counselling in the wake of the Michael Brown and Eric Garner decisions because it may have been so traumatic for them. Because of this trauma, they have also been given the option to have their examinations delayed.

Obama has released the second in command of the Pakistani Taliban.

US Military officials have handed over a high-ranking Taliban commander to the Pakistani government. The move is being viewed as a way to cement trust among Afghanistan, Pakistan, and the United States.

United States officials handed over three Pakistani prisoners to Islamabad on Sunday, one of whom is a senior Taliban commander long sought after by the Pakistani government, security officials said.

Though the US did not identify the detainees, Pakistani sources say the Taliban commander is Latif Mehsud (pictured above), former number two commander in the Pakistani Taliban and close aid of Taliban chief Hakimullah Mehsud, who was killed in a US drone strike last year.

“TTP (Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan) senior commander Latif Mehsud who was arrested was handed over to Pakistani authorities along with his guards,” one Pakistani security official said. “They reached Islamabad.”

I guess some of you silly billy grrls haven’t yet done this – or you’d know this?

The poster to which you are referring would have been from my 2010 Auckland Mayoral campaign – where I used the electoral process to focus on what a disaster this Auckland ‘Supercity for the 1%’ would be for the majority of citizens and ratepayers.

Who is disagreeing with me now?

Only those who are benefiting from the massive transferral of public rates monies to private contractors and consultants – whose ‘devilish details’ are NOT transparent so that the public can’t ‘follow their dollar’ and see EXACTLY where it’s going?

PS: In 2013 as an Auckland Mayoral candidate, I polled 4th, with 11,723 votes.

In my view, Labour Party MPs should NOT vote for the Countering of Foreign Terrorist Fighters Legislation Bill, which is being railroaded through the House under urgency, because there IS no basis for urgency.

If there was any real and credible terrorist threat arising from the Cricket World Cup to be held in NZ next year – that threat would have been mentioned in the Regulatory Impact Statement accompanying this Bill.

It wasn’t.

I saw Sobers play, a great man indeed.

Viv and Fredericks did though. Notably Viv was injured in 1980 when NZ performed the amazing.

Fredericks played very little ODI stuff but 62 test catches (according to wikipedia) suggests my memory isn’t completely gone.

No. He retired in 1974, just before Roberts, Holding, Croft and Garner moved into the Windies team from the mid-1970s on. Clive Lloyd decided after Gavaskar and Viswanath chased down over 400 for a win against them in the last innings in the Caribbean that NEVER again would he rely on anything other than a quartet of fast bowlers. The punishment the English batsmen (especially Brian Close and John Edrich) took in 1976 was the beginning of the process.

Harper, who came in during the early 1980s, got an occasional twirl if they were touring the sub-Continent.

What is it about Kelvin Davis that makes so many see him as the next Labour messiah? He has just been on Question Time asking questions about Philip Smith, stuttering and stammering his way through questions that he could barely read, let alone articulate. He was simply dreadful.

It has been a policy over the past few weeks for the Opposition to pick on Sam Lotu-Linga. He hasn’t always managed well but in contrast with Davis he’s a rising star!

Funny you should say that. I thought the same thing a couple of weeks ago when Davis stood to ask a question. I put that down to him having a bad day. However, if he has not got any better then it may well be that Davis is not all he has been cracked up to be.

I will tell you one thing though. As much as I hate his politics that Stuart Nash came across as bloody convincing last weekend on Q&A. I do hope that the public at large don’t get to hear too much from Nash as he has the same likeability as John Key.

When the Speaker suprisingly granted him an extra supplementary question today he
was buggered.
It took him several seconds to engage his brain and come up with something
that deviated from his prepared script.

Probably not a bad bloke actually but he’s certainly not the sharpest tool in the drawer.

Also, Sam is getting more confident and better every day.

One of the major reasons for immigration is to keep govt tax coffers topped up. Without it, the deficit would be greater and debt would be growing. So that’s why NZ is being overrun with foreigners. To keep the social welfare system operating.

That is not saying all immigrants produce wealth, but the problem is there has not been enough young people born in NZ to maintain the welfare system that looks after the baby boomers and numerous other recipients of taxpayer funds.

I say turn the fucking tap off and fuck it. Others would rather see our native culture subsumed and our country given away just so they continue to get their welfare payment every week.

The other notable moment in Question Time was Norman holding up a graph showing a BLUE line rising and a GREEN line in decline. What a wally!! It was his ‘Shearer holding up his two wet fish’ moment and it showed him up for the idiot that he is. I think the Labour MPs enjoyed the joke as much as the National MPs did.

Heaven knows what the two lines were indicating- no doubt the increase in CO2 emissions and the decline in some other dreary statistic- but who cares. What people will remember is that the MUPPET made a FOOl of himself.

She was the most useless minister of health we have ever had. (remember when our cancer patients
had to go to Australia for treatment.)

Tony Ryall proved just how useless she really was/is.

She is a prolific loud interjector during question time, and in a very nasty way.
No wit, no humour, just nasty.

She yelled out, “Idiot.” when the Prime Minister was speaking today.

He responded, “Your the idiot.” and he was right.

Scott Hamilton: ‘Akilisi Pouhiva has been a strong force for change in Tonga but there is a strong feeling these days that, although he continues to be re-elected as a democracy MP, he had his chance when he was offered a Ministry a number of years ago and declined the offer. He may have felt that he was acting on a point of principle but he is not seen as someone who is capable of reliability as a member of a corporate government. He specifically rejected becoming a Minister because it would have obliged him to support the government at all times. Maybe he might be too much of a loose canon as PM.

It might be a poisoned chalice, in any case. Look at what happened to Fred Sevele. He was a commoner MP who became PM and then was wholly vilified as a consequence for becoming ‘the king’s man’.

A difficult situation. Sadly, Tongans probably have an unrealistic expectation of what ‘democracy’ can offer. The society is so thoroughly corrupt at all levels (10% of its police force are either in prison or suspended because they are facing charges of corruption/ thuggery.) Tonga is a wonderful country and Tongans a lovely people but it is hard to see that anyone, noble or commoner, is going to be able to find a way out of its appalling economic woes.

No, not from Nukuleka but am from Haheke. Nukuleka is possibly the most out of the way wee village in Tongatapu but it is a nice village with great people.

Looking forward to seeing a Tongan on the National government benches at some stage. I don’t think that there has been one up till now.

Went to post some Christmas cards today to contacts in Australia, air mail, having first checked postage charges on NZ Post’s website – for the relevant information see: https://www.nzpost.co.nz/tools/rate-finder/sending-internationally/letters .

Expecting to pay $2.00 per stamp, I queried the $2.10 charged – not so much because of the 5% difference but because I had gone online for the information a mere one hour previously.

Seems that postage for an ordinary letter to Australia increased from $2.00 to $2.10 on 1 July 2014. After 5 months, you would expect that somebody in NZ Post would have found or been alerted to a pricing error on the business’s own website.

An interesting thread (and replies!) on Facebook started by Ian Wishart re: the pastor who abused the gay man.
The website for the church was only set up 3 months ago and the ‘church’ is pretty much a bible study from his home that 3 others attend – hardly a ‘church’.

One of the replies is a cut and paste that shows a comment by a man who used to be married to the pastors’ wifes’ sister. He said the guy had been in a mental unit for a bit suffering severe depression, after he had abducted his kids and taken off.

As Wishart says, something smells fishy about the whole thing.
Is it a promotion for the book written by the gay man? Or is it an excuse to foster a negative opinion toward Christians?

Hi Nukuleka, I think quite a few palangi visitors to Tonga are rolling on down to your namesake village, because of David Burley’s widely publicised claims that it was the cradle of Polynesia. There’s not much in the way of tourism infrastructure at the village, though! I went looking for the sites where Brley and co unearthed Lapita pottery, and had no luck. I did see some of Fanga’uta lagoon’s famous swimming pigs, though…

‘Akilisi’s defenders would say that he quit his ministry shortly after the 2010 elections because he was not allowed to run it without interference. The Tuivakano government seems to have been seriously unpopular so he may have made the right political move. His split with Halapaua was saddening though, and certainly weakened the Democratic Party. I was partly curious about what you thought about the nobles having nine seats guaranteed in parliament. I think that some of the folks who agreed to that provision in the revised 2010 constitution must be kicking themselves now, because it’s making the formation of a government that reflects the will of the voters impossible. Or so it seems to me here in ‘Atalanga…

Fletch, there might be someone in encouraging negative attitutudes towards Christians but one US pastor encouraging a gay to committ suicide and another facilitating the killing of them in Uganda is undeniable.

I’ve been reading Dr Altemeyer’s The Authoritarians. A simplified description of attributes of ‘right wing authoritarians’ (high RWAs) is: under-educated, extremely fearful, gullible, bigoted, largely incapable of using logic and dogmatic (their is nothing, no amount of facts, that will shake their ‘belief’ and they will often say so out loud). Their minds are highly compartmentalised (“authoritarians can stupify you with the inconsistency of their ideas”). They rarely move beyond their tiny zone of comfort. They are completely blind to themselves and any of their failings. Despite being only a small minority of the general population, they believe the majority of people think and acts as they do.

The Last Kiss

Back on January 9th, a group of Pekin, Illinois bikers were riding west on I-74 when they saw a girl about to jump off the Murray Baker Bridge, so they stopped.

George, their leader, a big burly man of 53, gets off his Harley, walks through a group of gawkers, past the State Trooper who was trying to talk her down off the railing, and says, “Hey Baby…..whatcha doin’ up there on that railin’?”

She says tearfully, “I’m going to commit suicide!!”

While he didn’t want to appear “sensitive,” George also didn’t want to miss this “be-a-legend” opportunity either so he asked
…”Well, before you jump, Honey-Babe…why don’t you give ole George here your best last kiss?”

So, with no hesitation at all, she leaned back over the railing and did just that
…and it was a long, deep, lingering kiss followed immediately by another even better one.

After they breathlessly finished, George gets a big thumbs-up approval from his biker-buddies, the onlookers, and even the State Trooper, and then says, “Wow! That was the best kiss I have ever had, Honey! That’s a real talent you’re wasting, Sugar Shorts. You could be famous if you rode with me. Why the hell are you committing suicide?”

“My parents don’t like me dressing up like a girl.”

It’s still unclear whether she jumped or was pushed.

Full credit to all the MPs from all the parties apart from the John Key led National Party and Peter Dunne’s United Future – who voted against the House going into urgency to pass the ‘Give the SIS More Power to Spy on New Zealanders’ Bill.

I hope that Labour MPs will withdraw their support for this Bill as have NZ First.

DPF posts a blog about a pastor encouraging a gay man to commit suicide and we’re supposed to be filled with rage about thie “unenlightened” man for committing a word crime. The useful idiot ideologues like Stephieboy lap this cr*p up and think that it represents “deeply held beliefs” of the silent majority.

Yet very rarely do we hear about the real crimes being committed like the systematic slaughter across the world of Christians which mostly goes unreported. As the author of this piece puts it:

“The omission reflects a major blind spot. Whether because young Christians don’t become “radicalised” and launch terrorist campaigns in Muslim-majority countries, or because there is a hierarchy of victimhood that rates Christianity low in the pecking order by comparison with accusations of Islamophobia (both real and imagined), a major human rights issue remains chronically under-reported.”
