Why? I have to wonder what the motivation is for people in NZ to defend Obama. He has spread war and conflict around the world. Relations with traditional allies have soured and support for further military aggression is not forthcoming. America has become a dirty word in many countries of the European world. Back home in the USA things have gone from bad to worse.

Obama has done none of things he promised, and all of the things he promised not to do. He is a miserable failure.

The decision in Penny’s court case has been reserved. In the meantime the council can proceed with the sale of the house. The council says it will stop the sale at any time if Penny talks to them or makes an application to pay the rates.

Reid, Yes he is just a puppet. Increasingly US presidents represent the special interests who put them into power. Presidencies are for sale in the USA.

I think political reform is needed. It scares me that the US has fallen so low and become such a source of global conflict. They were never what they held themselves up to be, but the Yanks were our mates and had similar values. They did have a stablising influence, in the same way a big stupid, but kind hearted, big brother might. Now they have gone bad, we have no one.

Of course, if Penny wants to continue to make her political point, she’ll need to be a ratepayer, and that means she’ll need to buy another home. Then we’ll go through this whole process again.

It’s the compounding interest that will sink her stigie….what was probably a $3000 debt in 2008 has probably near doubled by now.

I do admit to breathing a sigh of relief when I read that the council were offering an olive branch. Penny originally hailed from Masterton & she’d buy a much better hovel than her current abode if she moved back to the Wairarapa.

The mayor & councillors in Masterton have not slept well in weeks. 🙂

I also have mixed feelings about Penny. On one hand there is the sheer bloody mindset of her supposed protest against the council. I think that she is now in a real bind that having set herself up as a self proclaimed watch dog she cannot back down without losing face. The price for this will be the loss of her house which she obviously has some attachment to.
It has been noted that she does not have the ability to pay the arrears and it could well be that the protest was a cynical effort to cover her inability to pay. Then there is the fact that all things considered when is absent from GD it is noted and she always attracts attention when she is here.
She got her self into the mess she is in but for the colour she adds to life in general I hope she can find a solution

The Council are going about this the wrong way renderer. What they should do is employ her as a work of comedic living art to walk around the streets as a parody of a perpetual protester. Her salary could be met out of the Arts budget (after a deduction for rates).

It’d be a win/win. Auckland can boast street entertainment & Masterton is spared the threat of a Waterpressure campaign. 🙂

3 News is reporting an association between Hone Harawira and the Mana Party and two sex offenders plus an alleged sex offender – Harawira hired sex offenders with taxpayer money.

1. Mr Harawira employed his brother Arthur through Parliamentary Services with public funds – he’s spent time in jail for violent offences, including a sexual attack charge laid in 2008.
2. The records show Daniel Taylor was also a casual Mana Party staffer. Taylor was a Kaitaia businessman and a Child, Youth and Family caregiver who is in jail for grooming young boys for sex.
The records show he was hired by Mana in December 2010 and was jailed in November 2013. Harawira refused to confirm when Taylor finished working for the party.

Why the hell wasn’t this news then?

Because Mr Harawira didn’t respond to repeated requests from 3 News, there’s no way of knowing what he knew about the charges, when he knew, or what he did about it.

This has been going on while Harawira was an MP, an elected representative. He has a responsibility to be open about this.

If this isn’t dealt with adequately then I don’t see how the Mana Party can continue, unless someone else takes responsibility.

The more frustrating people to debate with are the likes of Shawn Herles – someone who should know better, is articulate and seemingly widely read, yet can’t contemplate a world outside what his leaders tell him.

But credit where its due. Tova O’Brien did get the story out – albeit more than a month late. Surely (dear God), surely, this is one of the last nails in Honi’s political coffin. The grim reality is Honi thinks we and the political process are a joke. Like fellow racist Willy Jackson.

Well what grounds would that wench Bright have for applying for a rebate? It’s not as though she had reasonable grounds such as health or being a pensioner etc. In this case she deliberately withheld paying the rates to make a political statement, if you to call it that. She should suffer the consequences of said action.

On another point I am a strong advocate for defence and firmly believe that our defence forces should be far better resourced. We may be the most geographically isolated nation in the world, but we are totally dependent upon maritime trade for our economic survival and if that gets interrupted by state or non state actors unfriendly to NZ, then we probably will be in trouble. Our greatest weakness are our sea lanes of communication (SLOC) and they run through South East Asia to places like Singapore from where we obtain most of our petrol etc. We are reliant upon Middle East oil so that goes through areas of tension. A lot of our trade is shipped through Singapore or other ports in Asia so the ships have to travel through or near the Indonesian Islands, the Philippines, Malaysia etc., countries with significant Muslim populations. The Philippines and Indonesia have Islamic terrorist organisations operating within their borders and one or more of those organisations has pledged allegiance to ISIS.

China is also flexing its muscles and creating tensions with its neighbouring countries regarding claims involving maritime resources. China is refusing to abide by the UN Convention on the Law of The Sea (UNCLOS), of which it is a signatory, regarding EEZs. It is using paramilitary forces to enforce highly dubious claims to areas at distances far greater than 200 nautical miles from its coasts and which are in other countries EEZs. This activity is ratcheting up the tensions in the South China Sea and associated areas, through which by the way a significant portion of our trade is transported by sea. Japan and China have a pretty dysfunctional relationship which is getting worse. China is stirring up its population with anti Japanese rhetoric and some Peoples Liberation Army Colonels have been advocating strong action against Japan. Those colonels wouldn’t be speaking out without the blessing of the Party hierarchy.

To sum up we don’t live in a benign environment and in my view the belief that the end of the cold war produced a peace dividend is a fallacy. What happens in the Asia Pacific region directly affects us and finally, these days you don’t need to invade a country to force it to bend to your will. If it’s an island nation like us all you need to do is successfully interdict and sink its trade.

Arthur Harawira:

Harawira employed his brother Arthur through Parliamentary Services with public funds – he’s spent time in jail for violent offences, including a sexual attack charge laid in 2008.

And…

Maori Party MP Hone Harawira says serious charges his brother is facing, including indecent assault and kidnapping, will not damage the party’s strong anti-violence campaign.

The Tai Tokerau representative has vowed to stand by 50-year-old Arthur Harawira, who was last week released from custody on charges of assault with intent to injure, wounding with intent to injure, indecent assault, kidnapping and avoiding arrest. Suppression orders have been imposed to protect the alleged victim’s identity.

Harawira said last night he felt sorry for the person involved, but Arthur was his brother. “I can’t condone his actions, but neither will I walk away from my family.”

Daniel Taylor:

The records show Daniel Taylor was also a casual Mana Party staffer

The records show he was hired by Mana in December 2010 and was jailed in November 2013.

And…

Prominent Far North community figure Daniel Taylor has been sentenced to five years and seven months in prison for sexually abusing young boys.

Taylor, 34, was sentenced in the Whangarei High Court today on nine charges of indecent assault and attempted sexual connection. His minimum non-parole period is two years and 10 months.

The Child, Youth and Family-approved carer pleaded guilty to the charges in September, one month before his trial was due to commence.

He has been in custody since his arrest in November last year after being denied bail on several occasions.

Both convicted. They could be unfortunate coincidences for Mana but not a good look alongside:

65-year-old Patrick Rivers, also known as Mangu Awarau, appeared in Kaitaia District Court charged with raping a girl under 12 and two counts of indecent assault. The court entered a not guilty plea on all charges on Rivers’ behalf.

The charges are historic and are alleged to have occurred during 2009 in Awanui.

Rivers is well known in the Far North and in Maori political circles.

He was out on bail at the time he was filmed with the Mana Party on election night. Two days earlier he had been charged with raping the young girl.

Mana Party leader Hone Harawira is a close friend. Mr Harawira declined to comment on their relationship and the nature of the charges when contacted by ONE News.

That was clearly shown as a charge/allegation, not a conviction. A Herald profile said he was a cousin of Harawira.

Regardless of the merits of the individual cases the combined effect is looking like Once Were Mana.
