I would suggest that non religious people do more of these “good works” than religious fanatics

Yes there are a few who take time off work to go overseas and do something like work at a school for awhile, which is great, one wishes it was a more common practice than it is.

Kea , you give a highly distorted view of Christians and Israel. As group they receive the same rights equal protection of the laws as do other Israeli citizens. This is not to say there are tensions between certain elements, especially proselytizing and messianic Christian sects and ultra orthodox Jews.
Thankfully so far no one has been hacked to death or blown up by a suicide bomber.
But at least proselytizing in Israel , you’ll be happy to learn, is not a capital crime with the death penalty as In Saudi Arabia and Iran.

Reidy – it is no use debating Kea. He is a fanatical anti-Christian, apparently raised in a Christian home, who now rails against everything his parents stood for. He is also a troll who makes inflammatory comments about religion all day long. Presumably he has all day and no other way to spend his time.

He implies it’s not democratic if someone getting just over 5% can “decide who runs New Zealand” – Gower seems to mix the fact the others would need to also decide before Winston gets any shot at it.

And Gower is still getting way ahead of himself, saying “Peters only got just over five percent of the vote” – it was a single poll nine months before we get to vote.

Reid, you are dreaming if you think gold is the answer. All that will happen is the price of gold will go up to allow the printing of more money. The price of gold is not its intrinsic practical value. It is what the market says it is. As long a money is issued as debt we will always have this problem. I am not sure of the answer, but it is not gold. Our present system is actually ok, if countries don’t take-the-piss in the way the US and others have.

nasska, the other problem is the amount of gold is not linked to the countries productivity. So the country could be highly productive, but not able to expand due to a shortage of gold. I guess the reverse could happen also. It is an attractive idea until you really start to think about it.

I certainly agree that something needs to be done about the current situation which is an absurd one.

If the financial system crashes productivity, trade, alliances, in fact anything we value now will be wiped away & whoever is left will pick up the pieces & start again. I suspect the UN will try for the big takeover but as human nature normally triumphs in any given situation I’m still backing the nation with the gold & a loyal army.

nasska, I believe the financial system will probably crash. In fact I think it has already but no one is willing to call it as everyone will suffer. So they just keep on pretending its all ok out of self interest. The US is so hopelessly in debt it has no chance of ever paying it back. It has to borrow just to pay the interest. And some others are not much better off.

It seems reasonable to assume that countries with essential goods will emerge better off. And those whose wealth is largely tied up in funny money will suffer. Singapore might do poorly and Thailand better, for example.

NSW seen as world’s infrastructure capital thanks to $85b in projects, says Mike Baird

The O’Farrell government’s strategy of selling public assets and using the capital to fund new infrastructure has helped Australia to become the “centre of attention” for the global infrastructure industry, Treasurer Mike Baird says.

When Mr Baird met international infrastructure investors in Japan, Singapore and Britain last month he found them excited about the opportunities in NSW and across the country.

“They have effectively dubbed NSW, and more broadly Australia, the infrastructure capital of the world over the next three to five years,” he said. “That’s good news because it’s going to help tackle the infrastructure backlog.”
