IMO the Commerce Commission seems to be over-eager in taking up Sam Morgan’s complaint about a ‘boycott’ of real estate agents against Trademe following their real estate listing price increases.

I thought the Commerce Commission was there to protect the customer / consumer, and not as a ‘tool’ to be wielded by a near-monopoly such as Trademe (what Warren Buffett would call a ‘durable competitive advantage’) anxious to protest its patch. Trademe seems to have overplayed its hand in increasing prices and now wants to intimidate its real estate agent customers via the Commerce Commission to bail it out of a situation of its own making. It is rather like Commerce Commission saying that Consumer Magazine should be shut down as a collusion of consumers against businesses. There is also Tolpuddle Martyrs like overtones.

There does seem to be a valid area of concern – but that is between vendors and their real estate agents. If an agent has habitually been listing its houses with Trademe, then it should inform prospective new listings that a Trademe listing is no longer part of the package but is an optional extra. Vendors should not be caught caught by surprise with this. This is easily remedied – if a customer had reasonably expected a Trademe listing as part of the package the agent should arrange it.

If Trademe’s business model with real estate listings requires that (say) 90% of houses for sale are listed on Trademe, then Trademe must be prepared to meet an informed market (amongst real estate agents) with respect to its pricing. To obstruct a market being informed is anti-competitive and no way should the Commerce Commission be a party to this.

Bracewell was # 12, which for the uinitiated means he could act only AS A SUBSTITUTE fielder if required.

Ryder is not in the playing 11 or 12.

So the new rule is that even wider squad members nit in the playing team are not allowed out at night?

If that is the rule then they (Hesson et al) should take it and shove it where the monkey stores its nuts.

The real story is not that Ryder was out having a beer, it is the Bracewell broke his foot in mysterious circumstances. So he is out of cricket again. Like when he stood on broken glass after a party and had a few months off.
Plenty of bowlers that actually want to play to replace him with.

@ flipper – ever been given a final warning? Ryder and Bracewell had been omitted from the playing eleven, sure. But if someone had woken up crook, or if Taylor’s wife had suddenly gone into labour, either or both could have been called on to play. They have let their teammates down badly.

Yes; I did stupid things when I was young, many years ago. But I wasn’t a professional sportsman being paid big money to be ready to play if needed, which both Ryder and Bracewell are. Both have form, and NZC could have cut either loose several times in the past. And what happened to cause Bracewell’s broken foot, which he didn’t have at final practice on Wednesday?

This is stupid, irresponsible behaviour, and, having stuck up for Ryder over the years, I am now over him.

Here’s an idea for the Tino Rangatiratanga devotees:

Identify yourselves as Maori, and be issued your own Maori passport.

Set up a whole different government within New Zealand for Maori, paid for by non Maori as a start up, whereby all those who identify as Maori have their own hospitals, pension scheme, welfare state, currency, education system, TV & radio channels, everything*. Some already exist so we’re on the way already.

Then every dollar Maori earn for themselves can be used for their self determination. BUT no money from the non Maori taxpayer can be transferred across to those who have identified themselves as Maori, because they are now truly separate citizens. They can sort out their inter-tribal squabbles using Maori lawyers with Maori money. The rest of us could then sit back and watch as they destroyed themselves

*Does not include prisons!

If you removed all the boozers and druggies from public life we would all be poorer for it. Many famous talented people had raging addictions but still contributed enormously to the wider world.

The drinking habits of the players is their business.

Not when they are under contract (agreed to by both parties) that stipulates limits on drinking. Just like the drinking habits of employees is the business of their employers if it can adversely affect their work performance and safety.

I say this to those that persist in knifing Ryder….

1. If he is an “alcoholic”, as is claimed (definitions vary according to body type, metabolism, religious belief etc., etc), and he harms no one but himself that, in my view, is his affair. Period. (PS no social/ health cost bullshit please)

2. If every perceivable “bad habit” were to be eliminated from those participating in sport, at whatever level, there would be no participation and nothing to watch. Once it was smoking…. and the lovely, but economic simpleton/naif, Bert Sutcliffe prostituting himself for Rothmans because we as a nation were too self centred to reward him for efforts which made most every New Zealander proud. (But that was only sport… and it was his career choice , I have heard bastards argue)/. Today there is gambling….on horses, a sure fire way to economic ruin. Even cricket and rugby commentators in 2014 promote gallops AND trots. Remember Nelson and the WIs????

3. Ryder and Bracewell do NOT represent me….or you. I had no part in choosing (or not) them, and I suspect you few are no different.

4. The talk of role models is bullshit spoken by those that never achieve anything beyond back yard rugger or cricket. Successful sportsmen and women strive for excellence in sport. Role modelling is best left to the holier than thou types here….and in the MSM.

Oh, that’s been discovered all right. Basically you put a raft of taxes on to all other activity – ETS, Carbon, income tax, CGT, etc., and then you redirect that money to to companies named things like “Solyndra”, etc. A useful side affect is productive activity is reduced so you dont have to buy so many wind turbines from China. You still have to replace them in twenty years of course, but, if you are lucky, that is when the right is back in power, trying to pick up the pieces of the clustf**k.

If public health interests are serious about excessive sugar consumption (and they should be), they would be educating the world – including NZ – about the elevation of blood sugar levels though over-consumption of carbohydrate-based food like potatoes, rice, pasta, pizza and bread. This happens daily with people who never consume a soft drink.

With modern-day low-exercise lifestyles, the volume of that kind of food that we eat makes a huge contribution to obesity here and in other “advanced” countries. Yet most people in this country are totally ignorant on the subject, and our health authorities remain largely silent on it.

Cricket is not an eleven man game Flipper. While only eleven take the field there is always a wider squad just in case. Ryder is there because of the very real possibility that Taylor might have had to pull out with notice. Bracewell is there in case of injury. There has been any number of instances where players have been injured in warm-up sessions or who have become ill overnight. It is a common occurrence.

As for my “holier than thou” view on Ryder — I pointed out that NZC was within its rights to say enough based on the terms of its contract with the players concerned. I also said that KS was entitled to make his own observations. That is as far as I went. You, on the other hand, strongly disagree with the validity of their view and their rights — which I support — to express them. Who is “holier than thou”?

Ryder has a test average of over forty, I cannot think of one player who is not playing in the test who has an average close to that.

Hell-bent on arming opposition forces in Syria—despite strong evidence that they’re run by Islamic terrorists—John McCain displayed behavior unbecoming of a United States Senator during a recent meeting with Syrian Christian leaders touring Capitol Hill.

The delegation of Syrian clergy came to Washington to raise awareness among lawmakers of the growing crisis among the region’s minority Christian community. Christians make up about 10% of the Syrian population and they are being targeted and ruthlessly murdered by radical elements of the rebel forces, according to the visiting church officials. They say the media and human rights groups in the west have been largely silent on the ordeal of the Christians in Syria.

A number of churches have been destroyed or burned, children were killed when rebels fired mortar rockets at an Armenian Christian school in Damascus and countless others have been abducted by Islamic fighters, the Syrian delegation reveals in a statement published by the research group, Westminster Institute, that brought them to Washington. Eleven nuns have also been abducted and are still in captivity and two bishops are still missing after getting kidnapped during a humanitarian mission.

But Senator McCain, an Arizona Republican, evidently doesn’t want to hear negative stories about the rebels he’s working to arm. So he stormed out of a closed-door meeting with the Syrian clergy officials last week. Held in the Senate Arms Services Committee meeting room, the reunion also included senators Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island, Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut and Joe Manchin of West Virginia. Graham is a Republican and the rest are Democrats.

McCain marched into the committee room yelling, according to a high-level source that attended the meeting, and quickly stormed out. “He was incredibly rude,” the source told Judicial Watch “because he didn’t think the Syrian church leaders should even be allowed in the room.” Following the shameful tantrum McCain reentered the room and sat briefly but refused to make eye contact with the participants, instead ignoring them by looking down at what appeared to be random papers.

The outburst was so embarrassing that Senator Graham, also an advocate of U.S. military intervention in Syria, apologized for McCain’s disturbing outburst. “Graham actually apologized to the group for McCain’s behavior,” according to the source, who sat through the entire meeting. “It was truly unbelievable.”

Attempted hijacking of a plane by a Ukraniun man, who wanted the flight diverted to Sochi.

A UKRAINIAN man is in custody after yelling “Bomb!” and demanding a passenger jet be diverted to Sochi, where the Opening Ceremony was underway.

The Pegasus Airlines flight landed at an Istanbul airport after the pilot sent a hijacking signal.

The passenger stood up and shouted “Bomb!” and tried to enter the cockpit, Turkey’s Transport Ministry official Habib Soluk told NTV.

Turkish media reported that a man brandishing a detonator tried to gain access to the cockpit of the aircraft operated by Turkey’s Pegasus Airlines while it was in the air.

KS, the behaviour of Ryder and Bracewell, won’t detract from this test. If the reports are true the only people they’ve let down are themselves, again. Giving it too much oxygen is pointless and gives them more credit than they deserve for letting their teammates down.

Meanwhile, the drama continues at Eden Park with a real test of the character of the Kiwi batsmen all on again.

Fewer prisoners escaping

Along with rehabilitation programmes, a $27.8 million expansion of audio-visual links to 14 district courts and nine prisons had resulted in fewer prisoners having to leave their secure facility to make court appearances, removing any threat of escape from an escort.

An extra $81.3m was being invested in upgrading five prisons, further improving security, as well as providing better facilities for prisoner rehabilitation and training, she said.

The sad fact is that the ruthless Assad dictatorship has a better record than the United States or its Sunni allies of protecting religious minorities in the Middle East. What Syrian Christian, Alawite or Druze in their right mind would trade the Assad’s time-tested protection for the smooth words of a John Kerry, especially when they can see Sunni supremacist Saudis, Qataris, Turks and a motley array of jihadis over his shoulder?

Only thing is, both these websites do not believe in the slightest, that Israel is behind what the US is doing.
