The Ernst & Young inquiry into aspects of Auckland Mayor Len Brown’s activities is going to be reported back to the Council’s CEO several weeks later than previously specified.

That means inevitably that the bill will rise by many thousands of dollars.

But Mr Brown himself will be paying the entire bill (won’t he?) as he has insisted from the outset that his affair with Bevan Chuang was an entirely “private matter”.

Freedom of speech doesn’t oblige other people or organizations to support you in your privileged position as a broadcaster, or journalist, or blogger. Freedom of speech isn’t a guarantee of permanent employment when the thing you are selling is your opinion (well put, Keith), nor does freedom of speech compel the public to buy said opinion from you.

Freedom of speech is the right not to be persecuted for your beliefs: not to suffer state harassment or censorship, or be fired from a position with which your beliefs do not interfere.

It looks like journalists at Fairfax’s The Age are actively working against Abbott ‘s Government and trying to destabilise their relationship with Indonesia and ruin the stop the boats program.
Abbott had made good progress with the boats pretty much no longer coming, yet The Age reveals that Oz had been tapping the Indonesian Presidents phone. Of course they fail to reveal it was all done under Kevin Rudds government when Abbott wasn’t even in Parliament!
What a pack of dissembling pricks. The MSM are just untrustworthy now.

French police were desperately trying to track down a gunman on the loose in Paris after a shooting at leftwing newspaper Liberation left a young photographer fighting for his life.
Liberation said the victim had just arrived for his first day’s freelance work at the newspaper, as an assistant on a photo-shoot for its supplement Next. He had suffered buckshot wounds to his stomach and chest, the paper said.
The gunman was still at large as night fell on the French capital seven hours later.
No one was injured in the shooting outside Societe Generale’s main office, which took place 90 minutes after the attack at Liberation.
Police said that CCTV images of the shooter suggested he was the same man who had stormed into the Paris headquarters of news channel BFMTV on Friday.
In that incident, the gunman emptied several cartridges from his shotgun before warning a senior editor: “Next time, I will not miss you.”
Several hours after the shooting, Liberation’s website was heavily disrupted by a cyber attack.”

We all knew you thought that Pete, c.f. the continuing attempts by you on here to shut down dissent against the venal actions of Peter Dunne.

Giovanni Tiso certainly doesn’t believe in it either. He blocked me on twitter after 1 totally innocuous comment about asset sales – he didn’t even bother to reply. Is this really the actions of someone who would uphold free speech if they ever got near the wheel of government? Of course not. I bet he is a huge believer in hate speech laws, has Che Guevara posters on his wall, and thinks Pol Pot was a great and just leader (that reminds me about some of our former MPs…)

Housing New Zealand Faces $6,000 Compensation Claim from Banks Private Prosecutor.
76-year Old Granny forced to clean off toxic mould

When a 76-year old Granny moved into her Strathmore Miramar unit in January 2010 it was unfit for habitation with toxic mould in the kitchen cupboards, dirty floors and bathroom and unsecured electrical cables in the ceiling that flapped when a strong wind blew.

Housing NZ refused to do any repairs leaving her to clean up dangerous toxic mould and do other maintenance work. She developed a respiratory illness as a result. The work took her three weeks hard labour before it was liveable. Draft stopping was never fitted resulting in the wind rattling the doors and windows.

The unit is halfway up steep street with a bus stop at the top and bottom leaving this disabled pensioner to push her walker up and down the hill with groceries.

She applied four times for a transfer supported by medical certificates. Each time HNZ falsely said she had not responded to their request for confirmation of her housing needs request and closed the file.

Graham Mc Cready, Advocate for NZPPS Ltd has taken on her case. HNZ has 14-days to do all the repairs or the matter will be referred to Tenancy Tribunal for a work order. A claim for $6,000 in compensation will be filed with the Tribunal in any event.

@ex-golfer – Good morning. I hope you are at work running your small to medium sized business in an attempt to lift New Zealand’s performance in this area.

If an item of medicine costs $5 because of regulation and Pharmac’s buying power now, but these controls are eroded in the future by further marketisation and free trade agreements like the TPP, the cost of medicine could rise. Anyone who has traveled abroad knows $35 an item is not out of the question.

On another point – Does anyone know the percentage of Act MPs with fraud convictions? Must be quite high, but not as high as 700%.

How ‘convenient’ is THAT?

In my view, it is the alleged USE of Sky City hotel room(s) for Mayor Len Brown’s illicit affair that is pivotal, as opposed to who paid for them, or whether they were a ‘freebie’.

If Mayor Len Brown DID use Sky City hotel room(s) for his illicit affair with Bevan Chuang, then, in my opinion, he is effectively ‘beholden’ and potentially ‘blackmailable’ – therefore politically compromised – thus should leave office.

What REALLY concerns me is that on ‘the watch’ of Mayor Len Brown, there was NO ‘due diligence’ carried out by Auckland Council on the increased risk of money-laundering arising from the NZ International Convention Centre Bill.

I received in the mail yesterday (in Wellington) a couple of expensively produced items from the Green Party. The expense doesn’t matter of course because their propaganda was being paid for by the taxpayer.
At one point there is the unsubstantiated claim that “170,000 jobs promised by National over 4 years from 2011. And yet 30,000 jobs lost in 2012.”
I thought this was a little unlikely so I had a look at the figures given in the Department of Statistics Quarterly Employment Survey.
The give two sets of numbers, those for full time equivalent employees and the second for filled jobs.
Between the fourth quarter of 2011 and the fourth quarter of 2012, which ought to be the period the Greens are talking about, the first number went UP from 1342.4 thousand to 1362.7 thousand.
The second set, for filled jobs also went UP from 1707.1 thousand to 1730.7 thousand.
Thus, far from jobs dropping by 30,000 in 2012, they appear to have risen by more than 20,000.
These numbers are, of course, from the fruit-loop party. God help New Zealand if they ever get into government.

I hate to be pedantic ex-golfer, but as well as being a convicted GST fraudster and serial bankrupt, Mr McCready (now Penny’s best mate) is also a convicted blackmailer:

Accounting has always been big in Graham McCready’s life.

Once it was his occupation; then holding people to account became a crusade.

But yesterday the accusing finger swung back on McCready, 68, and he was in the dock in the High Court at Wellington on a charge of blackmail.

It was a turnaround for the man who once boasted of jumping on the bonnet of a moving car to serve the driver with court papers on behalf of clients.

He earned a public profile when he took a private prosecution against Trevor Mallard in 2009, accusing the Hutt South MP of assault over an altercation with National’s Tau Henare in the lobby of Parliament.

More recently, he has been trying to bring a private prosecution against ACT leader John Banks.

His own journey to court began in July 2010, when he threatened to expose claims that a company director was guilty of financial impropriety and was mentally ill. McCready claimed he was acting in the best interests of minority shareholders, and would keep quiet if the man surrendered his company position and signed over his majority shareholding to McCready.

The victim, whose name was suppressed along with that of his company, promptly told McCready where to go, Justice David Collins said yesterday.

McCready was charged with blackmail and pleaded guilty on the day his trial was to have started.

He was sentenced yesterday to community detention – he must be at his home in the Wellington suburb of Miramar between 7pm and 7am for the next six months.

The victim read a statement to the court about the impact McCready’s offence had on him. At the time, he had been ill. Depression had forced him to step away from his business and leave it in the hands of others. But problems arose and, before he had recovered, he had to return to work to save his business.

Then along came McCready with his outrageous, shocking, threatening and disturbing claims, the man said.

The problems McCready caused cost the company about $80,000, a figure that McCready quibbled with later as he sat outside the court.

The victim said he still found it hard to understand why McCready did it.

It felt as if the whole episode had been a game to McCready, in which he misused the courts for his personal crusade. During one court hearing, McCready had offered him a toothbrush, saying the man would need it where he was going.

Anna Guy wants her estranged husband Ewen Macdonald to serve his full sentence behind bars, saying a possible early release could throw a “spanner in the works”.

The Parole Board has announced it will meet Macdonald at Christchurch Men’s Prison on Monday, when he will get the chance to plead his case for early release.

The 33-year-old has been in custody since he was arrested in April 2011 for the murder of his brother-in-law, Scott Guy, who was shot in July 2010. The pair worked at the Guy family’s Feilding farm.

After a five-week trial in Wellington last year, Macdonald was acquitted of the killing but was later jailed for five years for arson, vandalism and killing animals.

‘Innocent until PROVEN guilty’ – sort of thing?

In the bad old Auckland City Council days, I knowingly and willingly stood my ground and took matters to the point of arrest 22 times, by refusing to leave Council meetings, where I had followed ‘due process’, applied for ‘speaking rights’ then been (unlawfully) denied; and by refusing to leave Council meetings from which they had (unlawfully) excluded the public.

Not all matters ended up in Court, but out of the 22 arrests, it ended up 21 -1 to me.

(I defended myself – not bad for someone who has never been to University or had a day’s formal legal training in my life?

You may not be aware of this, but I’m actually a qualified tradesperson with Advanced Trade in Sheetmetal Engineering.

Some interesting calls from Labour recently.
Yesterday Annette King says that the majority of residents in Kapiti were opposed to the expressway – Her reason? The losing Mayor supported the expressway….funny considering the new Mayor also supports it.
In the 2011 election the National Party candidate increased his majority substantially. This is on the back of Darien Fenton saying that Labour will stop construction of the expressway.

Now Cunliffe says a Labour government will fully compensate the families of the deceased Pike River miners.
Fully compensate – what does that mean? Put a price on their lives?
And how will it be funded?
Well, he says he will chase the owners of Pike River Mine – interesting proposition considering the company is in receivership.

Yeah, nah David should have just said the taxpayer will stump up the compensation – it would have saved him time.

Is this the beginning of the end?

This article raised some questions for me regarding our ‘single mindedness’ – we seem determined to concentrate on only one way of doing things, whether it be antibiotics for infection, oil-products to run transport, electricity to power our lifestyle, and so on.

Whilst I’ve never embraced alternative lifestyles, always regarding them as a bit freakish, I do have to wonder whether our single focus and rejection of alternatives will actually end up damaging the human race, more than if we learned to diversify.

Just some thoughts, a response to a ‘frightening stimuli’ – a disease we cannot fight.

Agree EM is a nasty piece of work but I don’t believe he is the killer of Scott Guy. I did at the time but found Mike Whites latest book very good where he analyses all the evidence and what Ewen would have had to of done to be the killer (ie at Scotts gate with the gun sometime around 4.50 am that morning) and then getting back unnoticed it quickly becomes very implausible.
Whether the parole board decide to give him an early release thats up to them. It would be a very minimal imprisonment for the other crimes should they decide to.

However multi-millions have already been and continue to be paid to the families of the deceased by ACC (in other words the taxpayers,,,,,you know, those of us that work and pay tax). The pay out includes one-off payments, funeral payments and on-going payment of 80% of the miners wage/salary.

South Canterbury Finance was bailed out under the contingencies of the Deposit Guarantee Scheme – a scheme devised and put in place by your Labour cronies – corporate welfare of the worst kind. It was not put in place by John Key.

In the case of SCF the govt was obligated to bailout under the Retail Deposit Guarantee scheme. Whether you like this or not the govt had a binding legal obligation to pay out shareholders. Plus the whole idea of the guarantee was to protest systemic risk in the financial sector from the GFC.

In the case of Pike River miners, they have already been compensated. It is called ACC and the system is there as a no fault scheme for private and workplace accidents. The families of the miners will have gotten one-off death payments plus will get ongoing child care payments until their children turn 18. This is not to mention the large donations and grants they will have received from the various trusts and charities set up for the dead miners.

Now people are saying the miners’ families should get more based on a supposed moral obligation by the shareholders? There is no such thing as a moral obligation of shareholders.

Do mums and dads who have purchased Mighty River power shares expect to be held financially responsible for the deaths of 500 workers in an explosion at a power generation station? Of course not. If that was the case our system of commerce as we know it would cease to exist.

Put simply, David Cunliffe is being a lying, disgusting disaster tourist and emotional vampire. The fact he is telling people he will now turn what is not even a moral obligation into a retrospective legal obligation shows that he should be leading the Zanu PF Party, not the NZ Labour party (although some might say that actually the NZ Labour Party is equally suitable given events of the 2000s).

In conclusion: SS, you are a fascist, scaremongering fucktard, as your initials suggest.
