Interestingly, the article on Stuff makes no mention of the fact that the Greenpeace activists were illegally trying to board and seize control of another vessel on the high seas.
Nice balanced reporting that.

@ Viking2 – Key has been very careful and very non-committal in what he has said over Brown; and that’s exactly as it should be. It is not his role to directly intervene in local government issues. That is the difference between the Worth case and this. Richard Worth served as a Minister at the PM’s pleasure whereas Len Brown serves at the people of Auckland’s pleasure; and it is a significant difference.

The other day John Key said Len Brown’s affair would not stop Brown from running the council effectively.

And according to the Herald article below, it’s business as usual between Key and Brown; Key said he had not lost any confidence in Mr Brown over the affair revelations. In other words, Key endorses Len Brown’s behaviour, and by doing so he cynically panders to his left-wing bloc in Auckland.

But how can he say Brown’s affair won’t stop Brown from doing his job properly when the same Herald article titled ‘Key: No confidence lost over Brown affair’ reports this:

“Mr Brown was due to attend the same engagement this morning and Mr Key said he understood the mayor’s no-show.

“In fairness, he’s dealing with the fallout of a significant issue. It’s not unusual for public figures when they face various crises to go to ground a little bit.

“I certainly had a constructive meeting with him about the issues that matter this morning, but it’s not unusual for people to take a little bit of time out for things to settle.”

So I am paying rates for Brown’s no-shows, going to ground, and time outs. How is that possibly a Mayor functioning effectively?

so KS, while I agree it’s difficult for Key ( and more so now some of his own are on a list), his moral stand with Worth was swift and for much less and was driven by the Labour party.
This time of course he has a choice of not accepting the situation as well, by simply saying that he has concerns over the issue and would like some public clarity bought to the situation.
But, like the Banks issue he had compromised his own position and therefore we are left in doubt about his principles.
It’s rather beyond the realms of credibility that the relationship between the two can be or ever will be what it was.
That’s a problem for Auckland.

Perhaps Key has realized that the politicians world is full on clandestine relations.
Perhaps he is afraid one of his will be exposed to the sunlight and that would lead to a meltdown of the Govt as it stands. After all we have had Dunne exposed, Brown exposed and Whale the other day hinted that there is a good view of happenings between buildings at parliament.

While taxiing at London ‘s Airport, the crew of a US Air flight departing
for Ft. Lauderdale made a wrong turn and came nose to nose with a United
727. An irate female ground controller lashed out at the US Air crew,
screaming:

“US Air 2771, where the hell are you going? I told you to turn right
onto Charlie taxiway! You turned right on Delta! Stop right there. I know
it’s difficult for you to tell the difference between C and D, but get it
right!”
Continuing her rage to the embarrassed crew, she was now shouting
hysterically:

“God! Now you’ve screwed everything up! It’ll take forever to sort this
out! You stay right there and don’t move till I tell you to! You can expect
progressive taxi instructions in about half an hour, and I want you to go
exactly where I tell you, when I tell you, and how I tell you! You got
that, US Air 2771?”
“Yes, ma’am,” the humbled crew responded. Naturally, the ground control
communications frequency fell terribly silent after the verbal bashing of
US Air 2771. Nobody wanted to chance engaging the irate ground controller
in her current state of mind.. Tension in every cockpit out around Gatwick
was definitely running high. Just then an unknown pilot broke the silence
and keyed his microphone, asking:

“Wasn’t I married to you once?”

MAORI remains discovered in a store room at a British university have been handed back to New Zealand in a ceremony.

Birmingham University found the koiwi tangata, skeletal remains, and toi moko, a tattooed preserved head, in the anatomy department.

Delegates from Te Papa museum in Wellington held a repatriation ceremony to give the bones back to the Maori people at the university in the West Midlands on Friday.

I’m surprised there has been no post or discussion on here regarding how the Anglican Bishop of Auckland, Ross Bay, was found not guilty of a human rights violation recently for refusing to ordain a practising homosexual.

Let me see if I can help. This is my understanding of the law. The law protects freedom of religion. Adultery is not against the law but it is against church teaching. Therefore the church would not be obliged to train for ordination a known serial adulterer. The man in question indulges in homosexual activity, which is against the teaching of the church. Therefore the church may decline to ordain him, and so, to save him wasting his time and its money, can decline to train him.

Seems simple to me, rather like the notion of men and woman having sex being fundamentally different to a couple of men or a couple of women playing with each other.
