Once upon a time women were not allowed mortage debt.

But now women are the ones who are oweing most of the student debt.

Women have been “played” and have been suckered into paying through the nose for degrees that are worth next to nothing. They are now saddled with low incomes and huge debt.

Looks like young men will now be the ones with ‘affordability’ to own their own homes. While women are back at square one with the banks.

Labour’s feminists haven’t ever given a stuff about the welfare of women – just their rights! 😎

Why do they insist on ruining the ITM with this truncated schedule. It’s clear the people who organise it haven’t ever had to take a hit or make one in today’s game, nor have they ever had to play the game at it’s current pace. Is it meant to be rugby or attrition? They blather on about player safety/health but it’s OK to backing up after 3/4 days? Good luck with that shield challenge Counties – you’re gunna need it.

Whilst I agree with much of what you have to say, I disagree with the last comment. It is not just Labour feminists who have fought for woman’s rights – also, part of fighting for women’s rights was to allow them equal access to tertiary education.

Yes, men are better at servicing loans, they usually do not have to interrupt their careers to have children. That is a fact of life, one could argue that by treating women equally they are ensuring our inequality.

If you consider the Fairfax to be bad the Herald has recently been toxic.
Yesterday’s leader was against spending $7.9 million in the Pike River Mine, but a few weeks ago they were screaming for it to be done. Queer !
The letters on the same day were so anti Government, on many subjects, it must have been a bad hair day for the letter’s editor.
Perhaps she or he got out of the wrong bed.
And why are many of the Herald’s letters from the same people.
Must be friends of the editor.

It looks Len Brown is planning to reduce his grand plans for Auckland. At a meeting last night he agreed with John Minto that rates should be based on income , not property value. So if this came into effect the the rates take would fall through the floor. If he had a very much higher rate on the high income earners to compensate then Auckland’s housing crisis would be solved quickly as they all left Auckland in a hurray. sarc/

Harriet, as a taxpayer I’m not going to accept your blame – or society’s collective guilt – for women (or anyone else) borrowing excessive levels of interest-free money to pursue often-fatuous qualifications in media studies, entertainment, art & design, sport & recreation, public policy, hospitality, creative technologies, and the like.

We have allowed social engineers to dumb down the country’s education structure, and many of its normal channels into academic and professional study, nursing, teaching, trade training, farming (by way of examples) and multiple facets of unskilled employment. All the while, a wide range of private “tertiary education” providers have become established to soak up the cash paid by the Tertiary Education Commission and (through student loans) aspiring students. We have been subjected to the notion that anyone can be trained for anything; all it needs is enough money to be thrown at it.

Yet Labour in Australia oppose that because of ‘inequality’ between women – they believe that ALL women should get about $600 each for 26 weeks. No matter how much they were earning. Communism really.

To flog this mundane electrical appliance to the gullible branidead masses viewers are told that on a diet of soup, noddy the hero managed to lose *10 kilos in 7 days*. That is out and out bullshit bullshit bullshit lies.

Mate… even if you stopped eating flat and had only water… you wouldn’t lose that much. You’d lose all your food and water weight….sure… and then kilo after kilo in stored fat and tissue day after day? I don’t think so. What kind of moron would be taken in by lies on a scale reserved for real estate agents and Nigerian internet scammers? Sad. Tragic.

Nth Carolina to Abolish Income Tax

State Sen. Bob Rucho, a Mecklenburg County Republican and chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, said Wednesday that he hoped to use the 2015 legislative session to eliminate the state income tax, replacing it with a consumption-based sales tax to make up for the lost revenue.

“That’s a direction we’d like to go,” Rucho said in an interview as the state Senate adjourned for the year. Rucho said it was impractical to push for such a steep cut during a short session the legislature holds in even-numbered years, but that cutting the income tax was a top priority of his when the legislature reconvenes for its biennial full session.

North Carolina’s income tax accounts for about 61 percent of state revenue, Rucho said. But the revenue stream has been choppy in recent years, given the impact of the recession. The uneven results on a year-over-year basis can play havoc with annual budget planning in a state that requires a balanced budget, and it’s something Rucho said he wanted to avoid.

“We want to get away from that and go to a more flat consumption-based tax on sales taxes, both goods and services, and in return, we’ll say, ‘We’ll go to zero with the income tax.’ And that’s something we think we can achieve. It just takes time to get there,” he said.

This year, the Republican-dominated legislature instituted deep cuts in both the personal and corporate income taxes. Personal income tax rates will fall by two percentage points, from 7.75 percent to about 5.8 percent, while the corporate rate will fall from 6.7 percent to as low as 3 percent over the next several years, depending on how much revenue the state generates.

A Portland bar owner will have to pay a $400,000 fine for kicking out a group of cross-dressers whom he says were ruining his business. Chris Penner, the owner of the Twilight Room Annex, has to pay 11 transgender patrons the hefty sum after asking them to stop coming to his bar. Penner said female patrons complained that the transgender men went to the restroom with the stall doors open, then left the toilet seats up when they were finished.

Personally, I would be happy with an invasion by the Americans any day. As long as you don’t blow them up, they can be really nice guys. In comparison, the Nazis and the Soviets rounded up anyone who was a potential threat and killed them, and then rounded up a whole lot of other people and forced to work as slave labour. As for the Romans, they were very reasonable, but I’d still prefer the Americans.

The Government is hailing new legislation it says will enable “tens of thousands” of families into home ownership and take pressure off the Auckland housing market by addressing the “constipated” planning system.

The Housing Accords and Special Housing Areas Bill passed its third reading in Parliament today, 63 votes to 56, and will come into effect on September 16.

The bill is designed to allow the Government to force land to be freed up if it needs to.

The new legislation is central to Housing Minister Nick Smith’s attempts take the heat out of the housing market and address affordability. In defined areas the consenting process will be streamlined and would not be subject to district planning restrictions.

“This new law will deliver tens of thousands of new homes,” Smith said in a statement.

and actually it won’t affect the price of new homes., they will stay the same, it may bring down some section prices and may encourage a few more sections but developers are as stupid as Smith. They know what return they need.

Why the hell doesn’t someone tell us what the gummints immigration policy is and why not tackle the immigration side and change legislation to stem immigration!!!!!

But immigration will change this year for a year or two. Kiwi’s will be returning from their now non existent jobs. 170.000 jobs gone in australia LAST MONTH alone.
So those with houses will boot out the renters who can’t buy a house so rents will rise on demand and accomodation will get tougher. No demand lately but is changing.

As rents go up us cunning property investors will buy more and force the prices up further.
Darn Smith just can’t help himself. Us rich pricks are gunna get richer again.
About bloody time and all, the local govt. and insurance co’s have stolen any profit thier might have been and the banks want another go.

P.S. this has been going on for 150 years since the TOW or earlier and ain’t about to change.

Unfortunately the economy is focused in Auckland as is the population.
Auckland’s problems effect the entire country.

If they do suspend planing bureaucracy it will have an effect.

Of more use in affordable housing is returning the role of local bodies to one of public servants giving us what we demand not telling us what we have to do to agree with their plans.

Rates in Auckland are obscene. How much of that is squandered on social or cultural wants instead of infrastructure needs?

Wow Griff, drought in the Middle East ! That is pretty compelling evidence. Arid sandy areas are famously wet and rainy. Something must be up.

Maybe they should stop worrying about the pending attack from Obama in support of the radical intolerant Muslims who are trying to overthrow the country and focus on the real dangers of it not raining enough in “most of the country”

Russia warns of nuclear disaster if Syria is hit

A military strike on Syria could lead to a nuclear catastrophe if a missile were to hit a reactor containing radioactive uranium, a Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman warned. The remark comes as the US continues to push for a military strike on Syria.

“If a warhead, by design or by chance, were to hit the Miniature Neutron Source Reactor (MNSR) near Damascus, the consequences could be catastrophic,” Aleksandr Lukashevich said in a Wednesday statement.

Not that anyone in these parts would give a shit… But Gosh… just imagine if a nice big radioactive cloud parked up over the precious Jews next door. Then we might see a few people reconsidering their absurd pro-war positions here on KB. Or just imagine if some of Syria’s many Christians got crook ! Still it would save them being beheaded by Obama’s mates further down the track, as has happened with the fanatics he supported in other places in their lust for power.

Griff, yeah I largely agree. It may surprise you to learn I hope we get over our dependence on oil asap. Then the followers of Allah may have to grow up and face a few realities about themselves. As well as the environmental benefits, assuming the alternatives are not worse, and we can not be sure of that either.

The reason I am against the whole AGW lark is I believe it is unsound and if discredited public support for alternative energy and other environmental concerns may fall away. Now days every environmental initiative is couched in terms of climate change. I am concerned about the risk of putting so much stock in this one theory.

You attempt to apply scripture where it does not fit, in a way that invariably sides with Jews and Christians regardless of the actual facts before you. In short, it is people like you, on both sides, that cause these conflicts. I think you are decent person who means well, but you need to take a step back and look at these things with a clear head. I do not reckon JC would approve of your approach to resolving conflict back in his homeland. You are talking about his ancestors here, though I know you will struggle with that fact.
