This will be where they argue the responsibility for ensuring debt can be repaid rests with the lender not the borrower. A position I have no time for. If you get what you ask for it is up to you to repay it. No exceptions. Ever.

I would like to go along just to see more of Jacinda though 🙂

oh dear, this is another talk fest that will talk about all the ills except the most important one, choice and personal responsibility.

Full disclosure, i am an authorised financial adviser and also do mortgage lending but dont do consumer level lending. i can say categorically that i have helped more people out of debt than Jacinda and all the other hand wringers ever will.

does anyone know what “unscrupulous” lending is? because its either legal or its not. also whats social lending? is that lending where the taxpayer takes all the risk and the current governments pet projects get well below risk profile interest rates on loans that the probably wont have to pay back?

if its legal then the lender has to be registered on the Financial service providers register – http://www.business.govt.nz/fsp/

you also have to be a member of a disputes resolution scheme. you also have to disclose all costs, the interest rate both regular and annual, and the total finance cost to clients who have WILLINGLY come into your office to sign up for lending.

i am working with a client who runs a short term finance franchise and we are looking at putting up ads in their store so that anyone who needs it, knows they can access budgeting assistance if their employer is a member of this particular employee assistance program. this may cost the lender money as their clients get out of debt, but to them its worth it as they will also help people actually pay them back. no lender goes into business to not get repaid.

If this bunch of do gooders actually cared about helping people get out of debt, they would talk to those of us who actually do the job. but of course facts will make it hard to push their barrow.

Really???

The name of the organisation promoting this hugfest suggests that the Treaty business isn’t the only gravy train that should arrive at Len’s one way station without being turned around.

So what is Liebore’s “social-lending” policy? Does anyone know? Yes, it’s true, I just can’t be bothered looking for it so there is really no good reason for anyone to bother answering my question.

That’s unfortunate. What was the joke?

Whatever one thinks of this trough-dweller, there is no doubting that she presents an extremely impressive set of choppers. So impressive in fact that she shouldn’t ever risk travelling to Africa for fear of falling prey to the ivory poaching industry.
