By the way – does anybody know where Pete published his retraction? You know, as I pointed out that he has strongly insinuated that Henry leaked, but Pete then claims that “I’ve said that David Henry is most unlikely to have leaked.”

You have acknowledged that scientists may be influenced by funding. On that we agree. What you now need to answer is how you know the most well funded scientists of all (The ones promoting AGW) are not influenced by funding ?

You still have not addressed why oil producers would want to waste money on climate “denial” [telling the truth] when people are going to war over their product and demand exceeds supply ? It makes no sense at all !

You also have the awkward problem of explaining why the major oil producers have it all over their websites that they are concerned about climate change and spend billions on alternative energy research ?

All scientists are influenced by funding. Even my own research is influenced by whoever is prepared to fund which studies.

Studies that will not be popular, fail to get funding, and therefore are not done or are lesser or inferior to those that attract a lot of funding. So in essence, what you are saying is right. However what you do need to take into account is those with the most money get to fight the ‘bigger’ fight.

If I decided to do some research into (for example) how businesses exploit their workers, I would be hard pushed to get finance. If I wanted to do some research looking at how workers exploit their bosses – I’d be inundated with offers of funding.

So whilst you are right, the ‘system’ is wrong. (if that makes any sense)

Judith, And by a considerable margin the AGW promoters get the most money. The people handing out the money are taking it from others. Even those industries that may want to fund independant research will be forced to fund the AGW industry through punitive taxes.

So how much money are we talking about ? The direct funding to the alarmists is in the billions of dollars. The spin off industries built around AGW alarmism are measured in the trillions of dollars. Very rich and powerful people have invested considerable sums of money based on AGW fear. They are not going to sit back and see some jumped up little independent scientist destroy their empire.

The documents proved that Heartland “advocates against responsible climate mitigation and then uses that advocacy to raise money from oil companies and ‘other corporations whose interests are threatened by climate policies,’” according to DeSmogBlog.

Internal documents revealed Heartland’s plan to develop a “global warming curriculum” for elementary school children that “presents climate science as a major scientific controversy,” ClimateProgress reports. The $100,000 a year effort is being developed by Dr. David E. Wojick, a coal-industry consultant. The Institute also runs the Nongovernmental International Panel on Climate Change (NIPCC), which “pays a team of scientists approximately $300,000 a year to work on a series of editions of Climate Change Reconsidered.”

Heartland continues to receive funding from the Charles G. Koch Foundation, one of the foundations of the fossil fuel fortune that is the Koch brothers, as well as Philip Morris, the tobacco giant advocating against policies related to smoking and health, among many others.

TV3’s Campbell Live show is dim-witted as well as notably Leftist.

Tonight it was attacking the Government for seeking the best prices for surplus houses it is selling in Auckland. A chap with an Indian accent, purporting to speak on behalf of all home-seeking Kiwis, seemed incredulous that the Government wouldn’t sell to him for a lower price than it might get from another buyer.

TV3’s credibility on money matters will be under a cloud for years to come, however. Under the receivership this month, banks will minimise their losses on lending to its parent, MediaWorks, but likely at a cost to taxpayers, as the IRD could miss out on millions owed to it.

I thought tax debts had priority over just about everything in receiverships, but the company is disputing its tax losses. If tax millions are going to be lost because of the receivership, someone may have to authorise the IRD in effect to go along with the restructuring and do a huge write-off. That someone would be a senior politician. Would NZ taxpayers want this?

The Campbell Live reporter tonight at one stage interviewed the Government department spokesman who tried to explain the sales of the Auckland houses. The spokesman said the department had a duty to get market value, and if it didn’t a buyer could immediately flick it on and take a profit. The reporter suggested that was no real concern of his — that is, of the Government, on behalf of taxpayers!

If politicians authorise or order the IRD to sacrifice tax millions to keep TV3 alive, what will be their justification? Do they want a dumbed-down New Zealand?

Carbon is the 15th most abundant element in the Earth’s crust, and the fourth most abundant element in the universe by mass after hydrogen, helium, and oxygen. It is present in all known life forms, and in the human body carbon is the second most abundant element by mass. Carbon occurs in all known organic life and is the basis of organic chemistry.

I pointed out there was the same amount of evidence that Henry leaked that there was that Dunne leaked – none.

Now graham, you tell me – where do you think the leak to Winston Peters is most likely to have originated from?

Oh Pete, you must have a Masters in spin. Trying to explain away your comment:

as meaning there is no evidence that Henry leaked, just as there is no evidence that Dunne leaked.

Graham, when I wrote that there was no obvious alternative, but I still didn’t say that Henry leaked, I said it was more likely Henry than Key – and that’s obvious if you read everything in context rather than pick out one sentence in isolation. And since then I’ve learnt more and there are more alternatives than I thought.

You didn’t answer my question. Where do you think the leak to Winston Peters is most likely to have originated from?

Well I have my theory, Pete, but no actual evidence. And I don’t consider it proper or correct to bandy people’s names about, sullying their reputation by saying something like, ooh, for example, ““A more likely explanation is that (person X) leaked to Peters to put pressure on Dunne in the inquiry. There is no obvious alternative”.

Would you not agree?

National’s useless idiot causes more crap.

In a letter to an inter-council working party on genetic engineering in 2010, Dr Smith said GMOs were best controlled by national legislation, but that this “did not preclude a council from restricting or preventing the use of GMOs in their region”.

Meanwhile,

Environment Minister Amy Adams has confirmed she will block councils from setting their own rules on genetically modified organisms, saying that central Government’s controls on GM trials and releases were strict enough.

The minister was challenged in Parliament yesterday after the Herald revealed she was investigating attempts by North Island councils to introduce higher standards on GMOs in their planning documents.

Ms Adams said in the House that she was concerned that councils were trying to go against central Government’s rules on new organisms.

“Local councils are local councils – they operate under the national framework. There has never been the ability for them to rewrite national rules that they don’t like.

Your quote from my post at 1:21 is selective, in the same way you accused me of being selective at 8:27 pm.

And I fail to see how saying that “Dunne is desperately trying to work out who he needs to ingratiate himself with and very likely trying to walk a central tightrope that allows him to swing either way come the election” is sullying the man’s reputation. He is a self-confessed liberal centrist, who has associated himself at various times with Labour, National, Future New Zealand, United New Zealand, United Future, the Outdoor Recreation Party, the Progressive Party, Winston Peters, and I don’t know who else. He will pretty much work with anybody. Fact.

And I have no idea what your complaint about “bandying your name about” means. To “bandy” is to (a) give and receive (words, for example); exchange: The old friends bandied compliments when they met; or (b) to discuss in a casual or frivolous manner: bandy an idea about.
