I can’t wait for Winston Peters’ next Grey Power speech. KPMG has done an analysis of overseas investment in New Zealand, and not only is Asia way down the list, but China isn’t even the largest source of Asian investment in New Zealand.

Sill; since when has Peters ever let the facts get in the way of a dose of xenophobia?

Dunne has queered his patch – irredeemably. I’m not making excuses for him in any way.

But with respect, Peters is a nasty, vindictive, deceitful, conceited, duplicitous, hypocritical, gloating, grandstanding little troll. And that’s me being polite.

Whatever Dunne’s fate, it will have come to pass with or without Peters’ involvement. Peters deserves no credit for any of this.

Peters made a claim (that Dunne leaked the report). He purported to support his claim by saying that the evidence was in the phone records. Notwithstanding Peters’ claim, and Dunne’s resignation, it has yet to be proved that Dunne leaked the report. That said, it seems very likely that he did – effectively at least. But is the evidence in the phone records?

This reminds me of playing battleships. Scoring a hit with your first shot doesn’t prove that you knew where the target was. You just get to pretend that you did.

There was a lot of talk in one of the other threads about how people shouldn’t make a big deal about Russell Norman being an Aussie and I agree. I don’t care where he’s from, he’s a clown and his ideas are cretinous.

However it is worth thinking about the reaction we’d be getting from Labour/Green/Mana supporters if John Key was an Australian.
Just imagine the reaction if he’d been voted into power after being in the country for only 16 years. They would loose their fucking minds, there’d be a deluge of conspiracy theories about how Australian big business was buy NZ politics etc etc.

“I dont believe that the question Rachel Smalley asked of Hekia Parata: “How Maori are you”? was in anyway appropriate. I have a huge amount of respect for Brian Edwards and have read his blog which justifies Rachel’s question on the basis that was relevant to “Parata’s childhood and upbringing in a Maori family and Maori community”; that it produced a revealing and relevant response; that she handled it well and hasn’t complained.

The last three justifications are meaningless. It makes no difference to the appropriateness of the question whether she answered well or not, whether she complained or not. As to whether it was relevant to Parata’s childhood, that issue was canvassed earlier in the interview and could have been discussed more without forcing Hekia to justify her identity.

Thats what I have a problem with: Hekia was required by the question to justify her identity. The criteria Hekia then applied to herself is the criteria Maori have been forced to use to justify ourselves for decades: blood (whakapapa), language and whanau. It is a question based on New Zealand’s assimilationist history, when the degree of a persons “Maoriness” led to more or less entitlement, when being judged as having abandoned our cultural practices and language, we were therefore more like Pakeha and so more acceptable.

It is a grotesque irony that these days Maori are asked that question so that their right to speak on Maori issues can be judged, mostly by Pakeha, as legitimate or not.”

They saw two men leaving the scene on a motorbike, which crashed on the golf course.

A police dog stopped one of the offenders, and Morehu threatened to killed the officers and shot at them, before being shot, police said. Police say Morehu had a history of drug and burglary offences.

He was also a childhood friend of Steven Wallace, shot dead by a police officer after he went on a rampage in Waitara in 2000.

In 2002 Morehu was quoted in the New Zealand Herald saying: “The pig shouldn’t have shot him, he went too far. He could have just put a cap in his leg or something.”

And his relatives say they don’t know why the Police shot the crim (and victim of colonisation). Amazing.

If that was the interview this morning, I am puzzled as to how you got that impression.

Kim Hill was hysterical and frantic (as always), while the guest was calm and measured. She wanted to bang on about cars in a talk about houses. It was clear she was hijacking the discussion to promote AGW hysteria and no one does hysteria as well as Kimmi !

GE has asked the question as to whether the document apparently ‘leaked’ by Dunne was ‘actually a risk to National Security?’ And replies that the answer ‘seems to be no.’

I would have thought that the leaking itself of a document reporting on a matter of National Security was the test not whether Dunne or any other person had satisfied themselves that it wasn’t a risk to National Security. Foremost a breach is a breach not the extent of the damage if any.

However “climate scientists” (weathermen) do not rely on crude measures like, empirical evidence or observation. Therefore the predictions are correct and it is nature that needs to change. And nature would change (to suit the models) if only nature had not be paid-off by BIG OIL.

hj, it is much more simple than that. The only question we need to ask is: Should we have different standards of citizenship based on race, or not ?

If the answer is yes (we should treat people differently on the basis of race) then we should hold a referendum to decide who the advantaged group will be and who will be second class citizens. That is democracy. I wonder how that will work out for Maori ?

If I understand correctly Winston has seen the report on the leaking of the GCSB, which was for public consumption anyway, then has he seen all the documents including the Addendum ?
Dunne never saw that either, so where does Winston get his information ?

In three interviews over the weekend – Checkpoint, The Nation and Q+A, Winston Peters was asked repeatedly about what evidence he had. He avoided giving any clear answer, and mostly avoided giving any answer.

At different times he’s said that Dunne should be (illegally) forced to give all evidence, that the police should fund the evidence, and that John Key should find all evidence.

I call bullshit. Winston Peters evades questions on evidence

And now Fairfax are calling Winston Peters on his factless accusations, saying they haven’t leaked and they will strenuously resist having to hand over emails.

And they have also challenged Peters directly on claims and insinuations of “salacious” behaviour.

Thompson also rejected suggestions there was more to the relationship between Dunne and Vance.

NZ First leader Winston Peters has claimed to see emails that were personally embarrassing but Thompson said Fairfax was “absolutely” backing Vance.

He wants the police, or John Key, or the Privileges Committee (depending on his target at the time) to compel Peter Dunne to hand over evidence that bizarrely Peters says he has copies of.

Has Peters produced any evidence at all to back up any claims? NO. The absence of evidence and clear denials suggests Peters is lying.

It has been reported that Peter Dunne has asked for and has been granted one week leave from Parliament.

This is a wise move.

Dunne has to give careful consideration to his situation and to his future. It’s fair for him to have time and space to work through his options. There’s a lot at stake for him and his career. And there’s potentially a lot at stake for the country.

I hope the other party leaders will give pause to their political posturing and give Dunne the time he deserves. They would also benefit from a pause and reconsideration of their own stances and actions.

Burning down schools and Mosques is not the way to attack radical Islam, it is the way to create it.

All that is required is an honest media and a government that applies English law to all its citizens. No exceptions on the basis of religion/race/culture. Violence is not the way forward.

No one gives a solitary fuck whether you think it is a “good move” to have a week’s holiday after blatantly lying to the country, nor does anyone care about your hilariously feeble attempts at PR and damage control.

A good move would be a full confession after a harsh censure from the Privileges Committee, and then a resignation from Parliament to try and find meaningful employment in the private sector for the first time in his parasitical life. It would be interesting to see the exchange ‘caught on tape’… think about it… with a distance between the police and criminals… isn’t it actually unlikely that the cop’s shot would hit the target causing fatality? This was 4am… dark as well. The cop literally fired a shot in the dark and took out the trash. Isn’t that impressive? It was a golf course/ club… could’ve been a well-lit area but still. And a moving target on a motorbike? The chances of someone ending up dead were less than 50-50 and probably more like…. what, do you reckon? 10-90 at least?

I’m suspicious that there’s an anti-authority anti-social outlaw mentality within family.

Also; they didn’t know about the criminal activity? If they did… they’d know it’s risky. Would it really come as a shock to them that this has happened? They must have realised the possibility was there.

I wonder how much money this death has saved? One less serious dangerous criminal in the world to worry about. Occasionally the bad guy gets a punishment no-one could argue is too soft; a death sentence.

Tom Jackson, don’t worry about PRISM, Obama didn’t know anything about it until he read it in the newspapers just like you. Apparently they’re going hold an inquiry and find out who did it and punish them severely, probably by making them resign as much as two weeks before they planned to retire anyway. Anyway, it was all Bush’s fault.

You know, they told me that if I supported Mitt Romney that there would be pervasive surveillance of everyone about everything…and they were right !

That is not proof at all. An allegation by one woman can be reasonably doubted and when that accusation is accompanied by a request for money, as in her alleged statement:

“I need money and it seems that I am being ignored.”

Then on the face of it there is good reason to believe the accusation may be bogus. It may be true but your assumption of such would indeed seem to reflect what kowtow was saying: bigotry against Catholics.

I doubt it. It seems to me that there’s an opportunity here for pretty much everyone on the left and right to make common cause gang up against the government. I don’t often agree with Antonin Scalia, but he’s right about stuff like this.

I doubt it. Americans have long showed their willingness to sacrifice liberty for the pretense of “safety”. Especially if it’s in relation to some overblown hysteria over terrorism. Algerians took 7,000 slaves in the Bay of Naples in 1544, in a raid that drove the price of slaves so low it was said you could “swap a Christian for an onion.”

Once in North Africa, it was tradition to parade newly-captured [WHITE] Christians through the streets, so people could jeer at them, and children could pelt them with refuse. At the slave market, men were made to jump about to prove they were not lame, and buyers often wanted them stripped naked again to see if they were healthy.

This was also to evaluate the sexual value of both men and women; white concubines had a high value, and all the slave capitals had a flourishing homosexual underground.

What is most striking about Barbary slaving raids is their scale and reach. Pirates took most of their slaves from ships, but they also organized huge, amphibious assaults that practically depopulated parts of the Italian coast.

If only black Africans were that industrious now days !

kowtow, I do not oppose him for his skin colour. I oppose him for his decisions and the fact he is full of shit.

Actually it is not even him that annoys me. It is his supporters and enablers. They are the ones who can not see past his lovely dark skin to the man beneath. They are the ones who apply a totally different standard to Obama compared with Bush.

Two Irish hit-men, Pat and Mick are contracted to assassinate a bloke in Limerick.

Mick says, “I can’t understand this, he’s never been even a minute late before.”

I hope that the nasty party labour is preparing for a new title when they cuddle up with the greens. How about the Filthy Nasty party. I was sitting in a bus in Central Wellington today and had the misfortune to be behind several very unwashed individuals with long hair that could only be greens. Yee gods.. they stank.
