The Q + A panel were “A breath of fresh air” yesterday.

Bradford was told that she was talking nonsense (crap, actually). That equally silly and superficial, “Cracademic” Miller, who rotates with the tame left winger from VUW, was shut up and given a lesson in politics and economics.

It was certainly not Wood delivering the “message”, even though she is capable, but is clearly restrained by Q + A producers such as Watkin. The message was delivered by Oliver Hartwich, the Director of The New Zealand Initiative. Hartwich showed that his PhD and other academic / practical quals really meant something and that his ability to an analyse and articulate was far superior to that of the usual suspects.

I have a wager: Hartwich will never again be invited back to Q + A.

I see the jokes about King Gerry and the rest of the authoritarian fools of this government have taken a deadly serious, and possibly rebellious turn with the return of the outrages of the star chamber to New Zealand in the 21st century.

The New Zealand Public Health and Disability Amendment Bill (No 2) – includes an outrageous clause that supposedly denies the courts jurisdiction to review decisions made under it on human rights grounds:

“…On and after the commencement of this Part, no complaint based in whole or in part on a specified allegation [one that a decision under the Act discriminates on the grounds of marital status, disability, age or family status] may be made to the Human Rights Commission, and no proceedings based in whole or in part on a specified allegation may be commenced or continued in any court or tribunal…”

This is an outrageous attack on the rule of law – the use by an inner circle of politicians drunk on executive power to suppress opposition to government policies is exactly what the star chamber was used for.

Any extraordinary power that allow the executive to override the law is completely incompatible with, and a explicit threat to, the liberty of us all, left or right. Honestly, this government seems determined to match the Stuarts in levels of arrogance, ignorance and stupidity. We all know what happened to the last Stuart – I hope that as the outrage grows Key, Joyce, English and Collins all also take note of the fate of Charles 1st as well.

CORIN           Russel, what would you do on housing? We know obviously a lot about Labour’s Kiwi Build policy to build houses. What do you propose in order to solve our housing problem?
RUSSEL       Well, you’ve got to look at both demand side and the supply side. So, we’ve got demand side issues around investment properties and the tax incentive. So capital gains tax, excluding the family home, is part of changing the tax signal, as well as also looking at the losses and how those losses are accounted for around investment property. You’ve also got to take into account the overseas demand. There’s different reports about the size of it, but the Hong Kong government, for example, has introduced measures to try and constrain the overseas demand. So that’s important as well.
CORIN           I’ll just stop you there. So that is actually restricting foreign owners buying NZ houses, something I think Tony Alexander, BNZ economist, has mooted, hasn’t he?

DAVID            (CHUCKLES) We consider all good ideas. We have actually said we should restrict overseas ownership of farmland, because we don’t want to drive the price high there. One of the problems is NZ is we’ve actually got very poor data as to how much foreign ownership there is of residential land, because it’s not gathered by anyone. That’s where you need to start, is gathering that data and see how big a problem it is. You’ve not going to cure these problems with house prices until you deal with the underlying drivers of rampant house price inflation. Poor tax signal, rising inequality where some people can afford 10 houses and other people can afford none.

PS – what did Labour ever do to improve the lot of the caregivers looking after their own children. Not only did Labour not sort the issue, but orders came from the top of the Labour food chain expressly forbiddng any intervention. It has been left to National to legislate in the wake of the Court decision, and now you lot moan about it.

The Budget is about balancing the Nation’s financial ledger. It is NOT about “inequality”.
That is just a media driven slogan.

The sooner that J Key and W. English’s media minders persuade them to tell the silly TV children to get stuffed, the better for the Nation.

Parliament can not override the law, its sovereignty is limited, not universal.

A military dictatorship that exterminates those who seek untrammeled executive power is exactly what you end up with if you try on extra-judicial outrages like the The New Zealand Public Health and Disability Amendment Bill (No 2). I hope Key is starting to get an itchy neck.

Anyway, Crowmwell, Ireton and Bradshaw all died of natural causes. The restored monarchy tried to hunt down the rest, but I believe only managed to catch 3 or 4 of the 50 plus who signed.

Yes the black caps crashed and burned and broke Dimes heart again.

I still think we have the right captain.

The only way we can win is by being aggressive. We dont have the talent to grind teams out.

McCullum has done ok since he took over as Captain. In the 4 tests aginst England, rain saved them once and we came freakin close in that 3rd test.

We are ranked 8th in the world? playing the world number 2? The team that was number 1 last year!?!?

How often do the 8th ranked rugby team beat the all blacks?

Since the NZD is falling against the USD (now around 0.805 vs 0.84 a few weeks ago) it seems that the NZD may be going thru re-balancing means that we can export at better margins. Another nail in the Labour/Green financial credentials thinking money printing is the way to financial prosperity. I guess this will help hasten the end of the manufactured ‘Manufacturing Crisis’ that was all the rage 3 months ago.

NZ is doing well at present despite negative press from the press/LAB/GRE.

I know who will be better stewards for the NZ economy. It certainly is not Norman Parker:).

Dime, McCullum is not a bad wicket keeper but he is no TEST batsman with an average of thirty five.
So why is he in the team, to be captain only ?
Strange how I can remember Taylor leading NZ to victory in a test over Australia but the best McCullum has done has been three draws and a whacking great loss.

We only have two batsman with an average of over forty and Ryder will not play under McCullum.

The definition of a good captain, one who wins, McCullum is good at being defeated( 45 all out in South Africa) or drawing.

The only thing special about the PI’s is they never had it tough and were treated so well, unlike the English for example.

It is hard to believe you savages came from Asia, as Asians had a developed culture and could read and write well before Europeans. It seems the Asians who got lost and ended up in the Pacific Islands were lazy and illiterate, as well as poor sailors.

Interesting the natives only make up 2% of the population now days. Looks like the Chinese were not so keen on the “gimmie” culture.

I am off to lodge a claim for compensation because of the terrible way one half of my ancestors treated my other half, and then were treated badly right back. I can claim both ways. I will be RICH 🙂

@LR&C: When you charge the device for the first time, it will automatically sync the software on the MP3 with your laptop (Eg if you’re running Windows, it sets itself up in Windows Media Player). Or, if running a Philips MP3, you just follow the prompts. To transfer the songs from your laptop, you just set up a folder in WMP and when you have enough songs, simply ‘sync’ – the device does the rest.

The point is, we as Pasifikans, because of our breeding and cultural evolution are the best looking, most fit to survive peoples on this planet, going forward.
