Posted this yesterday, but I think I’ll repost it and give Ms Penny Bright a good chance to see it and respond. 🙂

I asked Penny Bright a question yesterday, not really expecting her to answer it, because she very rarely answers questions put to her (although she’s all for ‘openness and transparency’ – just in other people, it seems).

My question was this: if Penny was to run for a local body election again, such as Mayor of Auckland or MP for Botany or Remuera, would she commit to abide by the principles of points 4 and 5 of the “Draft Action Plan” that she has often talked about, and Occupy Auckland’s General Assembly supports? The two points in question are:

4. Legislate for an enforceable ‘Code of Conduct’ for NZ Members of Parliament (who make the rules for everyone else).

5. Make it an offence under the Local Government Act 2002 for NZ Local Government elected representatives to breach their ‘Code of Conduct’.

In other words, will YOU, Penny Bright, happily sign up to a ‘Code of Conduct’?

If not – WHY not?

Well, much to my surprise, Penny has said she will “consider” replying to my question – IF I give an assurance that I will stop making certain statements which she seems to feel are aimed at her (can’t imagine why, I only make these statments about “somebody” :)).

Now I’m genuinely fascinated to know what Penny’s response would be. Will Penny Bright actually sign up to a ‘Code of Conduct’ that she is demanding other representatives sign up to? So okay Penny, I accept. I will cease forthwith, as you put it, making the statements you have referred to in the below post, IF you answer these questions:

– Will YOU, Penny Bright, happily sign up to a ‘Code of Conduct’?
– If so, what will this ‘Code of Conduct’ look like? What will it bind you to?
– If you will not sign up to it, why not?

And when Key has dinner with James Cameron, we hope he mentions to Cameron that there are opportunistic opposition politicians here who will gladly take his money, but who don’t want him to buy any property here…

So her abiding by her own code of conduct is already conditional – in fact a form of non-transparency and therefore a little corrupt even – sounds like ‘turned to custard’ from the start.

Well Yvette, I’m prepared to agree to Penny’s conditions, because I really do want to know if Penny Bright would really sign up to a ‘Code of Conduct’ that she is demanding other representatives sign up to.

– Will Penny Bright happily sign up to a ‘Code of Conduct’ as she demands other public representatives do?
– If so, what will this ‘Code of Conduct’ look like? What will it bind her to?
– If she will not sign up to it, why not?

So yes. I will cease forthwith, as she puts it, making the statements she referred to – IF she really demonstrates ‘openness and transparency’ and answers these questions.

If she isn’t prepared to front up, though …

Hauraki Gulf Spatial Plan’s project steering group – which is additional to a stakeholder forum, an expert advisory group and a project team.

The first alternative is to have 26 Maori representatives and 26 representatives of councils and government agencies, such as the Ministry of Fisheries. The second option is eight of each, in which case Auckland Council’s representation would be limited to just two.

Half maori how often do you see maori out in the gulf? There is lots on coast watch pilfering the resource.

Looks like the Fast and Furious scandal in the U.S was not limited to one place or event, going by a new report by Univision (a Spanish network?) and ABC News. ‘Gun walked’ weapons have been used in other killings –

The other shoe dropped on the ATF’s Operation Fast and Furious last night, and it should sting — if enough people pay attention to it. Univision reported that the effort wasn’t just limited to one ATF office in Arizona — it had other operations in Florida and Texas as well. The ATF and Department of Justice lost more weapons than they have so far acknowledged, and those weapons have been tied to even more murders than previously thought — including a massacre of teens and young adults. This report literally showed blood flowing in the streets as a result of Fast and Furious, as ABC News reports:

On January 30, 2010, a commando of at least 20 hit men parked themselves outside a birthday party of high school and college students in Villas de Salvarcar, Ciudad Juarez. Near midnight, the assassins, later identified as hired guns for the Mexican cartel La Linea, broke into a one-story house and opened fire on a gathering of nearly 60 teenagers. Outside, lookouts gunned down a screaming neighbor and several students who had managed to escape. Fourteen young men and women were killed, and 12 more were wounded before the hit men finally fled.

Indirectly, the United States government played a role in the massacre by supplying some of the firearms used by the cartel murderers. Three of the high caliber weapons fired that night in Villas de Salvarcar were linked to a gun tracing operation run by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), according to a Mexican army document obtained exclusively by Univision News.

Univision News identified a total of 57 more previously unreported firearms that were bought by straw purchasers monitored by ATF during Operation Fast and Furious, and then recovered in Mexico in sites related to murders, kidnappings, and at least one other massacre.

You might also ask her whether she thinks that people who openly solicit public donations on their websites should have to produce a form of prospectus showing what the money is to be used for and, after the event, how it was used and to what effect. A costs benefit analysis might well be appropriate as well. I have asked her that on a number of occasions but she thinks that she is above that sort of thing.

NZ must come to a standstill for fear of offending dotcom. We must have nothing to do with the Americans for fear that we will be seen as their puppets. Forget the fact that we might be able to get 3000 jobs if a major film comes to New Zealand. Mr Dotcom is much more important than that.

If anyone has been behaving like complete and utter muppets in this whole saga, it is the news media. They have been played by Dotcom like a piano. They drool at his every whim.

The pronouncement of Dotcom’s lawyer today that the visit of John Key to the USA is highly inappropriate is typical of the public game that they are playing. The media are complete suckers. In case nobody had noticed, we have a reasonably robust judicial system and Mr Dotcom’s has had a measure of success throughout. The courts will be making the decisions, not the politicians. For myself, if I never heard of MrDotcom again, I doubt that I would be unduly upset.

@ Nookin – absolutely agree. As the details of Dotcom’s past, and of the allegations against him in the US (after all, who’s been told so far that one of his companies is called Megaporn?) emerge, the media here (especially Campbell Live) will have a job wiping the egg from its collective face.

The indictment against him, especially the way in which the whole thing was structured makes very interesting reading…

Keeping Stock, didnt you know, the PM, like most world leaders decides on a whim where he will be next week, and magic just happens. The schedule of people in important roles just frees up with the wave of a wand, and off he goes.

Do people really believe those detractors who make this shit up? That JK, as PM, would decide within days of a trip like this, and then it just happens? Are labour and the greens really that dumb that they think we are that dumb? Jesus, you have to wonder really.

Has the hierarchy at NewstalkZB, ‘knobbled’ Larry Williams?

Last week Williams observed / opined that the media around the beehive had totally fawned over Dotcom when KDC visited Parliament – a comment that was right on the money. Indeed, the TV shots of media hacks tripping over each other in an effort to coat tail KDC, were an embarrassment, so Williams was on the money when he said that the media in general were behaving poorly around this convicted criminal and were actually giving Dotcom oxygen he didn’t deserve.

So when the perennial pinko / card holding leftard Barry Soper comes onto Williams’ programme later that afternoon and tries to defend his actions by assuring Williams he was ‘only doing his job’, he was thoroughly slapped down by Williams because the TV shots didn’t lie. The media in general were awful and their shoe licking efforts have simply turned KDC into a ‘celeb’ – right up there alongside other ‘celebs’ such as the Ridges / Susan Wood / the poisoned dwarf from TV3 et al.

But since then, Larry Williams has been a lamb whenever Soper is on air and Soper’s usual promotions of ‘all things Labour are good’, are being left unchallenged.

Larry Williams has, for a long time brought some balance into NewstalkZB – to offset the perennial pinko slant put on things by the likes of Barry Soper / Bernadine Oliver-Kirby / Niva Ritimanu / Pam Corkery et al, but it seems this is no longer the case.

Falafulu, I would agree so. At some point, Catherine Isaacs needs to step in and take over the seat if ACT is to have any hope of ultimate survival. Banks is a cipher and placeholder awaiting the arrival of someone more competent and suitable for an essentially urban liberal electorate. Ideally, he should step down before the election so that she has some time to make her own mark. Why not? Banks will be tainted by the detritus of the Dotcom donation scandal, and it diverts attention from the importance of focusing on the ACT brand and its policies- not his personality quirks. For the good of his party, he needs to make a strategic retreat at some point.

A Paris court has fined five members of two separate Internet film piracy rings €1.1m and handed out suspended prison sentences of between three to six months.

News of the sentencing last Wednesday comes as the French socialist government mulls the future of France’s controversial anti-piracy law known as the Hadopi, put in place by the previous centre-right government.

The five defendants were accused of managing two separate film piracy sites – the now defunct Cinéfox and Carnage.

The three people involved in Cinéfox were fined €710,000 in damages and interests to a number of parties, including Disney, Universal and Warner Bros. They were also given suspended six-month prison sentences.

The remaining two defendants from Carnage were fined €410,000 and given three and four-month suspended sentences.

I think Act was well and truly demising before Banks joined. Choosing him to join and to stand in the pivotal Epsom was a demisal move. Banks is little more than National MP, he has done little to promote a separate Act brand.

All Banks is doing is caretaking and accelerating Act’s demise.

Snort! If Blair thinks this will get him back in the good graces of the left-wing he’s kidding himself.

What he should have noted was that Eric Hobsbawm was an unapologetic defender of Joseph Stalin.

In other words his “defense” of communist theory went far beyond any so-called intellectual engagement: contrary to the theory itself Hobsbawm was a sellout to the cult of personality that almost always arises in communist societies. He was an intellectual shill for one of the greatest mass murderers in history.

This morning’s Herald reports the possibility of John Tamihere standing in west Auckland.
This could their first step in trying to recapture the “Waitakere Man”.
If Labour were to use Damien O’Connor and Tamihere speaking together I think they would get some traction.
“Waitakere Man” does not like bullshitters, and that is how Key and English are appearing over this GCSB debacle.
John Key’s “aw shucks, straight up honest man” appearance has taken an absolute hammering.
I wonder if Redbaiter would call me a “front bum” for writing like that about Labour.

Is GCSB Director Ian Fletcher THE BOSS of GCSB Associate Director Rebecca Kitteridge – who has been seconded from her position as Cabinet Secretary for three months ‘to carry out a thorough review of the GCSB, its processes and procedures’ ?

How ON EARTH can Rebecca Kitteridge carry out an ‘INDEPENDENT’ review of the GCSB, in her capacity as an ‘Associate Director’ of the GCSB – who presumably reports to the GCSB Director, Ian Fletcher?

How ‘thorough’ can any review be of the GCSB, its processes and procedures’ – unless it’s carried out by somebody who is genuinely independent?

Which GCSB Associate Director Rebecca Kitteridge, clearly is NOT?

Haven’t been in many houses this last week or so then have you Pete. Not going away and neither it should even if Key thinks so. And its conveniently masked the water issue.
Many of us are fed up with the bloody socialists like Key and his pet Joyce who yesterday was telling the world everything in NZ is rosy and there are jobs a plenty. They are the people who are devoid of any reality.

The shit’s still to come and they are still fiddling. The rest of the world is folding and they still think everything is ok.

Just cause Key believes his own bullshit doesn’t make it right out there. Trying to make it right by spruiking non inquisitive and dumb interviewers to impress even less rigourous listeners won’t make it right either.

Korea says the bully USA’s foreign policy is pushing for a nuke exchange-whether it be in the ME or on the Korean peninsula. If they do, I think it will partly be in disproportiuonate response to and a rather petty attempt to keep all those global warmers happy. Keep looking out for a glow in the western sky. Well, surprisingly 🙂 I’m still waiting on Penny’s reply to my question at 08:08 this morning (http://www.kiwiblog.co.nz/2012/10/general_debate_2_october_2012.html#comment-1028893)

Penny previously said that she would “consider” replying to my question – IF I give an assurance that I will stop making certain statements. As I’m actually quite interested to know what Penny’s response would be (would she actually agree to sign up to a ‘Code of Conduct’ that she is demanding other representatives sign up to?), I decided to accept her challenge. Just so there’s no doubt, I’ll repeat myself – Penny, I will cease forthwith, as you put it, making the statements you have referred to in the below post, IF you answer the questions I asked at 08:08 this morning.:

I think she will. After all, as someone who is actively promoting this “Code of Conduct”, who is demanding that other people are seen to be “transparent and open”, surely Penny will be eager to fulfill these qualities herself. Surely.

If she doesn’t … well, it rather makes a mockery of her claims to be so concerned that “The books are opened”; to be “anti-corruption / pro-transparency”; to be concerned that NZ “gets our House in order” and “ensures genuine transparency and accountability in local and central government” as she claims on her website.

But we shall see.

Graham, RF, Zapper and others, you need to understand that it appears Penny has NPD, narcissistic personality disorder, whereby the subject overestimates her abilities and has an excessive need for admiration and affirmation. One major aspect is a self-delusion – an idiosyncratic belief or impression that is firmly maintained despite being contradicted by what is generally accepted as reality or rational argument, typically a symptom of mental disorder – and this can be seen when commenters here, perhaps unkindly, say “Fuck off, Penny” and she will say “Thank you for your input” – see? you are supportive, confirming the post she has made.

A mainstay of Penny’s disorder is the playing out of seeming altruistically motivated community actions or stances on issues which are really self ego-strokes, so the action [real or perceived] counts more, subconsciously, than any actual result or benefit consequent to the action.

And while insanity is so often quoted as being “repeating the same action time after time and expecting a different result”, the result isn’t the telling factor here, only the action, so the subject is insane, ipso facto.
This is evidenced by the obsessive attacks on John Banks and more recently John Key,
both of whom may also unfortunately have NPD, as well as obvious negative co-dependency syndrome.

It’s the sense of making a difference, Griff.

Most of us couldn’t be arsed with the years of suck-up in the face of extreme provocation that is required to put yourself in the position of power where you can make a diff, and IMO all of that is let loose the second such people become all of a sudden the Minister. Oooohh. It’s the Minister. Crikey. Look Timmy, there’s the Minister. OMG.

All of a sudden they start wearing flash ties and pinstripes or for wimmin, those really wide bright and colourful shoulder-padded designer outfits, each no doubt costing thousands of our taxpayer dollars. And all simply serving to hide their own insecurities and present a front which the useless morons who can’t see past their own nose lap up as if it means they’re very special people indeed.

The whole of politics is vapid spin and if the wankers just shut the fuck up and let the professionals who have spent their whole lives in whatever dept they work in do their job as they, not the idiots who lord over them, saw fit, you would see this nation take off like a rocket. But no, this won’t happen.

The real issue about politics is that the potentially excellent, competent, wise and altruistic don’t care enough about it to enter Parliament since they have a much better life without the scrutiny and the bullshit, leaving Parliament at the mercy of those who care more about themselves than they do about others. The odd exception exists. Joyce I think is one. Kennedy Graham may be another but I haven’t decided yet. But those two are the only people in the current Parliament who I place in that category.

Bureaucracy grows quicker than a school boys hard-on in a strip club once in a generation one or to politicians manage to rein it back to reality.

Years ago I worked with a bloke from the deep south JB. Bit of a ratbag but good bloke to get on the piss with. His accent was as broad as any Scotsman at the best of times but the more he got tanked up the worse it got.

The office lady /despatcher was German….God knows what a first time listener on our RT frequency would have made of it.

I once worked in a hire company that had a receptionist who looked like something the cat sicked up 16 stone of PI ex street kid covered in home-made tattoos. She was a real honey and had done ten years in the nz army as a result spoke with the sexist husky pure New Zealand accent imaginable. Every week there would be another punter turning up to meet the person behind lovely voice 😆 they would saunter up to the office all preened and proud and run out in fright 1 minute later never to be seen again.

Could have been JB….it was always hard to tell. The height of proud Kiwi technologies of the time was the “Tait” RT systems. In a noisy truck cab you were doing well to pick up every two or three words….rolled GoRRRe ‘R’s & the German way of adding a sound like someone chundering into a bucket to the end of words weren’t great aids to communication. 🙂

Flights late after Jetstar forgets daylight savings

Four Jetstar flights between Wellington and Auckland were delayed because the airline forgot about daylight saving.

The 8.15am flight out of the capital on Sunday was about an hour late while crew waited for the plane to arrive from Cairns.

Clocks went forward early on Sunday morning, but that wasn’t factored into schedules. As a knock-on effect, three later flights on the route were delayed.
