Southland have been very disappointing this year, not sure why that is.

Considering their circumstances Otago have been better than expected. They are struggling against the top section teams but have made good progress, with results and with the way they play.

Footballer John Terry fined STG 220,000 for allegedly using racist language by the Football Assiociation, despite being cleared of such charges in a criminal court/

No “allegedly” about it, Terry admitted using the language. The reason he was found “not guilty” of the criminal charges was that the prosecution was unable to prove intent, however flimsy his “I was clarifying what he accused me of saying to him” defence was, it was reasonable doubt time again. The FA charges didn’t require that intent to be proved, merely that the words were spoken, it was a foregone conclusion that he’d be found guilty.

Fair comment James.

My point is the matter of racism and political correctness.
We have two cases of people getting into much trouble over mere words.
The state is seen to severely crack down on ‘racist’ behaviour.
Such is the strength of this cracking down that the forces of law and order are too terrified to do their jobs properly, lest they be seen as racist.
Thus, young teenage girls pay the price of this and get raped by muslim paedophiles.
In the Sheffield cases we even saw the parents of such young girls get charged with racial harassment because they opposed their daughters being raped or groomed. One local council, in the spirit of multiciulturalism, even suggested a young victim learns to speak Urdu!
Thus, the obsession with political correctness and racism puts non-whites above the law and they can rape with near impunity, as we now see in Oxford.
How many more young girls will be raped now because of it?

The state is now penalising language that is deemed to be offensive. Most ,not all,of the penalising goes in one direction. The reaction of western govt’s to the Muslim cartoon rage is another example.Don’t be offensive ……to Muslims.

And here we go again on media bias, and it seems to be getting worse as they descend from ideological to flat-out partisan bias.

This argument pivots off a Sunday TV talk-show discussion (held just hours ago US time) with some of the usual Washington D.C. talking heads. In the segment, Charles Krauthammer calls out his liberal colleagues, including Nina Totenberg and Mark Shields, to their faces, <a href="and Nina Totenberg literally chuckles it off.

That’s Nina Totenberg of NPR fame, applauded across the land by “thoughtful liberals” as a balanced reporter – not like that clown Chris Mathews on MSNBC that Jon Stewart and company laugh at (or regular US correspondent, Jack Hitt, on Nine To Noon.

As the blogger explains:

Let me explain why this is different than previous bias.

Previously, the press has been both biased in a partisan way and an in an ideological way, but usually the partisanship was driven by ideology. As you may have noticed, the press are great fans of gay marriage and abortion, and they shape their coverage to put the best possible face on these positions, and the worst possible face on opponents. (To the extent they feature contrary voices at all.)

That’s bias, of course. We’ve gotten used to that.

But in the Benghazi debacle, there is no possible ideological grounding to explain their bias. There is, I trust, no ideological movement that advocates for intelligence failures and the deaths of good-guy diplomats. There is no ideological movement in favor of reckless incompetence bordering on malice in providing security for consulates abroad (which, as a legal matter, are considered US territory).

There is no ideological movement – or at least there was not before – championing the government’s right to lie to the public about its failures in order to avoid accountability.

There is no room here where one can say, “Ah well, they can’t help but be pulled a bit to the left by their own beliefs.” Because no one champions the right of government to let people be murdered and then lie about it.

This isn’t ideological bias, then. This is pure advocacy for a political party. Obama’s embarrassment is not an ideological issue — or should not be. I hope we can all agree that a president should attend security briefings — especially as 9/11 approaches — and provide adequate warning and security for US government personnel. I hope we can all agree that the government does not suddenly gain a Right To Shamelessly Lie about its failures, simply because it finds it politically advantageous to do so.

But, as Nina Totenberg’s chuckle indicates, the press now in fact believes exactly these things — so long as the president we’re talking about is Democrat, and Obama in particular.

Scientists are predicting that fish species around the world could shrink in size because of global warming, losing as much as a quarter of their bodyweight.

Writing in the journal Nature, the researchers said rising temperatures could have a serious effect on hundreds of species over the next few decades.

Researchers modelled the impact of rising temperatures on more than 600 species between 2001 and 2050, the BBC reports.

If we all had cold showers less warm water would get into our waterways and seas. Not peeing in the toilet may help too. Every little thing may help, even taking a piss.

A week ago it was wall-to-wall news and concern.
Now have the hui, ended last Thursday, confirmed the Government’s intention to deal with individual iwi is right,
and the Maori Council and Waitangi Tribunal both wrong, or what?

Criminal acts possibly from Stone Age activists:
Young rowers face a bleak season after arriving at one of the country’s poorest clubs to find all but two of their boats smashed and strewn around the clubhouse.

Griff, what you must understand about Penny Bright is that she is so obsessed by the idea of “rich vs poor”, that she will go to ANY length to push her agenda.

This includes picketing a charity lunch that aims to raise money for a new children’s ward at Waitakere hospital. Solely to make some sort of point about John Key.

The fact that Penny Bright and Sue Bradford would put their own hatred of anybody who commits the crime of being wealthy ahead of a new children’s ward for a hospital is almost beyond belief.

OCCUPY AUCKLAND (General Assembly 1/2/2012) SUPPORTS THE PRINCIPLE OF A DRAFT ACTION PLAN TO PREVENT CORRUPTION – ‘WHITE COLLAR’ CRIME & ‘CORPORATE WELFARE’ IN NEW ZEALAND [DRAFT DISCUSSION DOCUMENT ONLY]

1. Get our anti-corruption domestic legislative framework in place so NZ can ratify the UN Convention Against Corruption.

2. Set up an NZ independent anti-corruption body tasked with educating the public and PREVENTING corruption.

3. Change NZ laws to ensure genuine transparency in the funding of candidates for elected public office and political parties at central government level.

4. Legislate for an enforceable ‘Code of Conduct’ for NZ Members of Parliament (who make the rules for everyone else).

5. Make it an offence under the Local Government Act 2002 for NZ Local Government elected representatives to breach their ‘Code of Conduct’.

6. Make it a lawful requirement for a publicly-available ‘Register of Interests’ for NZ Local Government elected representatives.

7. Make it a lawful requirement for a publicly-available ‘Register of Interests’ for NZ Central Government staff responsible for property and procurement, (including the Ministry of Health), in order to help prevent ‘conflicts of interest’.

8. Make it a lawful requirement for a publicly-available ‘Register of Interests’ for NZ Local Government staff, and Directors and staff employed by ‘Council-Controlled Organisations (CCOs) responsible for property and procurement.

9. Make it a lawful requirement for details of ‘contracts issued’ – including the name of the contractor; scope, term and value of the contract to be published in NZ Central Government Public Sector, and Local Government (Council), and ‘Council-Controlled Organisation (CCO) Annual Reports so that they are available for public scrutiny.

Make it a lawful requirement that a ‘cost-benefit analysis’ of NZ Central Government, and Local Government public finances be undertaken to prove that private procurement of public services previously provided ‘in-house’ is cost-effective for the public majority. If not – then return public service provision to staff directly employed ‘in-house’ and cut out these private contractors who are effectively dependent on ‘corporate welfare’.

11. Legislate for a legally-enforcable ‘Code of Conduct’ for members of the NZ Judiciary, to ensure they are not ‘above the law’.

12. Ensure that ALL NZ Court proceedings are recorded, and audio records made available to parties who request them.

13. Make it a lawful requirement for a publicly-available NZ Judicial ‘Register of Interests’, to help prevent ‘conflicts of interest’.

14. Make it a lawful requirement for a publicly-available NZ ‘Register of Lobbyists’ at Central Government Ministerial level.

15. Make it a lawful requirement at NZ Central and Local Government level for a ‘post-separation employment quarantine’ period from the time officials leave the public service to take up a similar role in the private sector. (Help stop the ‘revolving door’).

16. Make it a lawful requirement that it is only a binding vote of the public majority that can determine whether public assets held at NZ Central or Local Government level are sold; or long-term leased via Public-Private –Partnerships (PPPs).

17. Make it unlawful for politicians to knowingly misrepresent their policies prior to election at central or local government
level.

18. Make laws to protect individuals, NGOs and community-based organisations who are ‘whistleblowing’ against ‘conflicts of interest’ and corrupt practices at central and local government level and within the judiciary.

19. Legislate to help stop ‘State Capture’, a form of ‘grand corruption’ arguably endemic in NZ – where vested interests get their way at the ‘policy level’ before legislation is passed which serves their interests.

Well, my view is this, Penny.

I, in fact, am in total agreement with two particular points of the Draft Action Plan. These points, specifically:

4. Legislate for an enforceable ‘Code of Conduct’ for NZ Members of Parliament (who make the rules for everyone else).

5. Make it an offence under the Local Government Act 2002 for NZ Local Government elected representatives to breach their ‘Code of Conduct’.

In all seriousness, I think the behaviour of some of our MPs over the past years has been quite disgusting. And I completely endorse the sentiment that those people who make the rules for everyone else, should be held accountable. I have found it quite bizarre that we allow people such as Hone Harawira into Parliament, when he openly states that he will not obey the laws of the land if he happens to disagree with them.

And I’m equally in agreement with the sentiment of point 5, extending this ‘Code of Conduct’ to Local Government elected representatives. So, presumably, somebody standing for public office who was found to have STOLEN water, encouraged others to STEAL water, STOLEN electricity (as part of the Occupy movement), would not be looked upon very favourably under this ‘Code of Conduct’. And as for somebody standing for public office who proceeded to VANDALISE AND DEFACE the billboards of her opponents during the campaign – that wouldn’t be very seemly, now would it?

Here’s a question for you Penny (not that I have any confidence that you will be ‘open and transparent’ and actually, y’know, ANSWER a question) – if you run for a local body election again, such as Mayor of Auckland, will you commit to abide by the principles of points 4 and 5 fo the above-mentioned Draft Action Plan? In other words, will YOU, Penny Bright, happily sign up to a ‘Code of Conduct’?

VIDEO: Hysterical scenes during arrest of Occupy protestor Penny Bright

Veteran protestor Penny Bright was at the centre of this morning’s crackdown on Occupy protestors, yelling at police and claiming brutality by officers.

Ms Bright was picked up in her tent and dragged towards a police van, while screaming hysterically.

She later stood up on the back of the van and gave an emotive speech about the protests.

Incidentally, Penny, perhaps you should re-read my comment at 3:18 a bit more carefully. Nowhere I did accuse YOU of having carried out those actions. I merely posted some rhetorical questions, asking about ‘somebody’ standing for public office who was found to have STOLEN water … etc.

Surely you don’t feel this is aimed at YOU … do you?

Anyone noticed how the media are salivating over Finland’s education system which doesn’t run National Standards yet still achieves at the top of the OECD? (A rep from Finland is at the education conference now running.)

I wonder if it’s going to occur to ANY of the media to ask the simple question about how Finland deals with learners at the bottom and what their analysis of the root causes of those learners is?

It’s just that all the Scandanavian countries are extremely homogenous, which generates entirely different attitudes in the population. For example, if a Swede goes on the dole, that’s no problem, it’s generous and available. But if a Swede makes a lifestyle out of it, she or he is excoriated by their relatives, their neighbours, the local shopkeepers and Uncle Tom Cobbly.

It just occurs to me that maybe, just maybe, Finland’s success is due not just to their classroom techniques but also, critically, to their having almost 100% uptake of motivated parents who actually, truly and really give a shit about their child’s education and take the appropriate action. Of course most parents here care, but we have many here who fail to assist their child to achieve and to understand the importance of the boring skool wurk. Caring isn’t enough, and I’d be real interested to hear from the media just precisely what Finland does to get parents into the right frame of reference. I suspect they don’t do much, because they don’t need to. We however do, but we don’t, possibly because that would be all judgy and lefties would scweam and pwotest and wend their clothes at the inhumanity of requiring parents to do the right thing for their children.

It’s not clear what the elderly lady in the video is getting arrested for. She is babbling incoherently and seems to have trouble standing up. Is it for being being drunk and incapable perhaps? Does anyone know?

They can’t really win these rebel groups, because they don’t have the support of even most of the anti-Assad forces. As I have mentioned, the main peaceful opposition group does not really support the strategy of the Free Syrian Army, does not support the Syrian National Council and in the key cities of Aleppo and Damascus, which is where more than half of the Syrian population live. Most of the population is behind the government, supports the government. A couple of weeks ago, a Free Syrian Army Officer admitted it himself, saying that ‘the problem for us here in Aleppo is that 70 per cent of the population supports Assad,’ and it has always been that way. So they can’t win with that lack of popular support.

I second bereal’s comment….your 6.34pm is thought provoking stuff.

There is however another way in which we will outstrip all others in our race to the bottom of the education ladder. To the same extent that Finland sees fit to keep their country for their own we welcome with open arms every lazy, thick, religious, over breeding, pig ignorant immigrant we can scrape out of the shitholes of the ME. Education for these petals is optional & not necessary….neither is the desire to work, nor is there a need to speak English except for the phrases “I want”, “benefit” & “give me”.

Then we introduce the spawn of these no hopers to an over unionised pack of pedagogues determined that their way is the right way & that social engineering will always trump useful learning.

Bottom of the OECD….we should be so lucky.

The English language needs a moratorium on the word Islamophobia, a term often used to describe bigotry against Muslims. The strategic construction of “Islamophobia,” which is rooted in the word Islam and not Muslim, serves more than a mere lexical purpose. It is designed foremost to associate voluntary religious belief with involuntary skin color, appealing to widespread and legitimate revulsion to racial prejudice, and further to equate bigotry against Muslims with criticism of Islam, blurring any distinction between these two very different actions. While the prejudging of all Muslim citizens as suspicious and untrustworthy is indeed comparable with other forms of racial and religious bigotry, the study and refutation of Islam’s claims to moral and philosophical authority is a just and necessary enterprise, fully compatible with a pluralistic society that values religious liberty. This is because freedom of belief, if it is to have universal and consistent meaning, must include the freedom to criticize beliefs and believers — a concept that is foreign to the social and political world view of Islam….

Perhaps Fletch if you and others talked less about all Muslims as if they were a single homogeneous group who all thought the same and talked more about the fact it is a tiny subset of radicals, I wouldn’t have to keep preventing WWIII by introducing facts.

Of course you’ll probably dispute that the radicals in the muslim world are a minority, why look at the stats on all of those who fund those who take up arms and how come no Muslims dispute terrorist events, you’ll probably say.

All I can say is, fact is, Muslims DO dispute terrorist events if you look for it, fact is for some reason western MSM doesn’t think that’s a story worth covering (which should give thinking people like you pause for thought as to why that is). And as for the funders, I agree this is not good news. But if the west were really serious about preventing it, they’d be wise to stop selling arms, paying Afghan warlords for drugs and stop killing wedding parties, you’da thunk. After all, the funding issue is hearts and minds isn’t it. And how much attention does the west pay to that? If you were really serious about it, why does the west pretend that the only time marketing ever works is in the west and in Asia? How come they try to pretend that it would never ever work on the ragheads, cos they’re just primitive barbarians who will never respond to reason which is why we have to kill them all, all of the time?

Sorry to be so blunt, but that’s quite frankly the attitude. And once again, thinking people like yourself, might do well to consider just precisely who might have inculcated that attitude into the western mindset. It is a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma, isn’t it.

So I asked Penny Bright a question yesterday, not really expecting her to answer it, because she very rarely answers questions put to her (although she’s all for ‘openness and transparency’ – just in other people, it seems).

My question was this: if Penny was to run for a local body election again, such as Mayor of Auckland or MP for Botany or Remuera, would she commit to abide by the principles of points 4 and 5 of the “Draft Action Plan” that she has often talked about, and Occupy Auckland’s General Assembly supports? The two points in question are:

4. Legislate for an enforceable ‘Code of Conduct’ for NZ Members of Parliament (who make the rules for everyone else).

5. Make it an offence under the Local Government Act 2002 for NZ Local Government elected representatives to breach their ‘Code of Conduct’.

In other words, will YOU, Penny Bright, happily sign up to a ‘Code of Conduct’?

If not – WHY not?

Well, much to my surprise, Penny has said she will “consider” replying to my question – IF I give an assurance that I will stop making certain statements which she seems to feel are aimed at her (can’t imagine why, I only make these statments about “somebody” :)).

Now I’m genuinely fascinated to know what Penny’s response would be. Will Penny Bright actually sign up to a ‘Code of Conduct’ that she is demanding other representatives sign up to? So okay Penny, I accept. I will cease forthwith, as you put it, making the statements you have referred to in the below post, IF you answer these questions:

Will YOU, Penny Bright, happily sign up to a ‘Code of Conduct’?
If so, what will this ‘Code of Conduct’ look like? What will it bind you to?
If you will not sign up to it, why not?

A tradesman was flown to Australia by his new employer two months ago for a job that is paying $12 an hour more than he earned in New Zealand.

Paul Holmes, a linesman, says he is one of several workmates from the same New Zealand employer to make the same move within a year.
