BOOZE BATTLE: The Government’s Alcohol Reform Bill will soon get its third & final reading in Parliament. At the heart of the debate is the split purchase age, minimum pricing, restricting trading hours, and eliminating alcohol advertising and sponsorship. Which of these measures will make the final bill? Will these measures change our binge drinking culture? Do the proposals go too far? Or not far enough?
SUPERANNUATION, SUPER PROMISES, SUPER TAXES?: Will we need a super-size tax in order to keep our Superannuation promises? The Financial Services Council is saying young kiwis will have to pay significantly higher taxes in order to receive superannuation. The Government has promised to keep the retirement age at 65. Is that a promise they should keep? Or should we be raising taxes instead? What about people who do manual labour or Maori & Pacific Islanders who have lower life-expectancy rates—is it unfair to raise the retirement age for them?
