..a combination of mutual take-no-prisoners..and a puzzling reluctance from/by both the greens and labour to tell/show their supporters how to tactically vote..

(a reluctance..as far as i can ascertain..that also stems from some warped sense of ‘fairness/playing the game’..(!)

..which for the life of me..i cannot understand..)

..as a slightly harder look at those stats reveal that had labour and the greens played-together/in mutual interest..

..they would now be the government..both now..and for the forseeable future…

..and that just leaves the question..(cont..)

Too frenetic. Looking too much for one play to change the game instead of getting back to basics and building a platform, better to win ugly than to lose. I’m starting to think they need to return to a 10 man game, using a pivot employing a Grant Fox type game.

I hate the idea of the Greens and Labour encouraging their supporters to vote tactically, it just isn’t democracy. It would be better to see both Parties support preferential voting in the MMP review.

Nope. If they had voted tactically then they might have picked up more electorate seats. Probably with the result that there’d be more Labour electorate MPs, but less Labour list MPs.

But parliament, and hence government, is driven by the list votes not the electorate votes. And I don’t see how or why the Greens and Labour could screw the scrum on the list votes.

Like virtualmark said, it is the overall party votes that mean the most. At best, tactical voting gets a few other MPs in on the (pretty small) coat tails of poodles like Banks, Adnderton or Dunne

Eszett, I don’t exclude National and Act from that list. But Philu doesn’t make any mention of Act and National in his original post.

It isn’t only bad when the left do it, I am just more disappointed by it.

Why is it bad? I believe that you should vote for the party/person who best represents your beliefs/interests. When a Labour supporter is voting for the National candidate to prevent the Act candidate being elected it doesn’t sit well with me.

That is why I support repeal of the electorate seat threshold and preferential voting in electorate seats.

In his sports column in the ODT Brent Edwards talks about “faceless critics and social media making life hell for rugby coaches” in relation to the disgraceful abuse of Pat Lam this week.

It’s a form of cowardice. How can you judge the merit, or otherwise, of someone’s opinion if you don’t know the person or their background?

But the personal and rascist abuse directed at Lam, and his family and players, has nothing to do with rugby and everything to do with people sniping away under cover of anonymity.

It’s an issue which should concern all New Zealanders. It’s time for the faceless critics to shut up or be held to account.

This isn’t about anonymity, even though it does aid some cretins. What is important is for the majority of decent people commenting online to stand up against it. Anonymous people can play as much a part in this as well as identifable people.

Speak up against abuse, personal attacks and online cowardice and it will be less of a problem.

When will the Govt. close this loophole.
Either the Govt. should close the loophole or remove GST. That’s the ethical position.
That’s the position that is fair to NZer’s and NZ buisness.
Giving a free ride to oversea’s businesses at the expense of our own will just close down more businesses and jobs. More unemployment and so it goes. Unintended consequences, which it seems politicians are unable to understand.

But like old age pensions it will be in the to hard basket for these lazy pricks.

Not making that up, he’s actually stated that. And yet, after may years and many tens of thousands of posts in phoolspeak, across god knows how many forums, the total number of people, out of a world population of seven billion, who’ve looked at phool’s new improved English and decided that is a good idea with obvious advantages, and they have decided to use that style themselves, remains exactly zero. My estimate of the number of people who think he’s an unreadable fucking mong for writing like that, is about 7 billion.

Auckland amputee Diane Smith has received an apology from the Accident Compensation Corporation – her third in four years – but says she now considers ACC apologies worthless.

Case manager Lesley Wilson declared Mrs Smith’s claim “a NIGHTMARE!!”, while colleague Rachael Wilson wrote in March 2008 “this woman is completely deranged”.

Alternatively … they may be right. I have a lot of sympathy for anyone who’s had to have their leg amputated – that must be a terrible thing to have to go through. But that doesn’t exclude the possibility that ACC have done everything they reasonably should do for Diane Smith, and that she is indeed a pain in the arse.

ACC is an insurer. It’s not the fairy godmother. It’s job is to provide the support it’s contractually obliged to, up to the limits of the policy. It’s not there to act as a make-a-wish foundation for every one with a grudge.

If ACC have skimped on their duty to Diane Smith then they deserve to be raked over the coals. But that’s not to say they’ve met her every wish and desire.

After having dealings with ACC (without problems) I can see there is a great deal of confusion in their minds and that of clients as to whether they are a welfare agency or an insurance company. Meddling by politicians has not helped; feel good extensions to ACC coverage has given the populus an enlarged sense of entitlement and a sense that because it is State backed ACC is capable of unlimited generosity. (Just like WINZ).

Seems to me there’s two models of rugby team … one model where you have a strong coach and strong disciplined team culture, and another model where you have player power, led by a few key “star” players, who think they run the team.

The Hurricanes has historically been the player power model, dating back to Tana Umaga’s time. Everyone loves him, but I think he’s responsible for the ‘canes going off the rails. I gather that Cooper never got on top of that “player power” culture. And lots of home-grown stars (Dagg etc) left rather than kow-tow to the “stars”. Hammett went head-to-head with the stars in a “this town ain’t big enough for both of us …” kind of manner. Now the pressure’s on him to prove he can make the other model work, and so far it looks okay … just watching from the stands you can clearly see the change in team culture.

I can’t help wondering if the Blues are where they are today because the players have got the upper hand over a less-dominant coach. It sure looks like they players aren’t playing for each other – heck it often looks like they haven’t even been introduced to each other. Looks like they need a coach who will come in and smack some heads together. Lam has to go. But I’d say a few star players have to be slaughtered too, pour encourager les autres.

But you can keep Ma’a. We don’t want him back.

Nonu is the biggest con in world rugby.
He is almost useless (did you ever see him make a tackle ? a decent tactical kick ?)

He cons his way into the Allblacks somehow and when surrounded by a world class team is set
up to make the odd decent run.

However, i will give him credit for being the lovellyist, cuteyist, eye made up, dreadlock adorned, coloured ribbon in the hair wearing girls blouse on the park.

It was interesting listening to Laws yesterday where needless to say ther subject was the Big Blub by that wanker Pat Lam.
It was noticeable that several PI’s commented that the problem with PI’s was that “when we are up , we are up, but when we are down we are hopeless.”

Seems that maybe some of the comments directed at Lam have more than a ring of truth to them

Anyway – looks like Hammit (sp?) in wellington at the Hurricanes was right. Getting rid of that pofter Nonu and fat boy Wipu has ceratinly helped the Hurricanes and ruined the blues.

Hell – I just cant stand some big blouse getting on TV and blubbing because someone said something he didnt like. We really should go back to that ols saying: “sticks and stones will hurt your bones, but words will never hurt you”
If one akes that attitude then the best response from Lam would have been ‘Go screw’ – and then start calling himself a New Zealander and stop this PI crap.

ACC has a dreadful reputation amongst suppliers. The staff know they can be as arrogant as they like because they are a state monopoly.

Part of the reason state employees are so opposed to jobs cuts is that they know no one in the private sector wants to employ them.

Well said Virtualmark- My footy team went out and watched those Hurricanes train once during the Umaga era…my god half the players strolled in late (looking hungover) and no-one was wearing team kit. They pretty much slacked around and did what they wanted, no intensity and not a hint of urgency or anything remotely resembling professionalism. I remember the boys laughing and noting that our club sessions were harder and more disciplined..
Also interesting to note that Hammett came in for a lot of nasty, often racially motivated and barbed comments (from Hurricanes fans and even a few players) when he did his ‘clean out’ last year…Yet he didn’t go blubbing to the cameras about it-just got on with the job of being a PROFESSIONAL sports coach…

Personally, I wouldn’t rate Hammett as a success or Lam as a failure just yet. It is always tempting to ascribe failure or success to a few factors. It seems pretty well established that when a team succeeeds it is because of the players and when iot fails it’s because of the coach.

The Hurricanes this year aren’t actually playing any different than what they have done since 1996. Often a culture or style develops in a team that simply doesn’t change, no matter who is in the side or coaching it.

Good coaches and players can fail; poor coaches and players can succeed. I shouldn’t really say ‘poor’ – at that level there aren’t really any bad players or coaches (except John Mitchell!).

Yeah have to admit it is very telling how well the Hurricanes are doing now that Weepu and Nonu are gone. Wellington have always had acres of talent but could never win anything. I remember Norm Hewitt saying in his biography that you have to coach the brown boys with a bit more lassitude and let them play. Well, it’s hard to let em play when they are overweight like Weepu. Seems like something has been rotten with wellington for a long time and now it is getting cleaned out by Hammett. And good on him, he is obviously doing a great job there. I think wellington can be seen for what it is with the state of it’s sevens teams. They are always completely hopeless.

Gosh I wonder what Philu would do without kiwiblog. The poor man would be utterly bereft of purpose

I have seen so many people beaten up by thier attitudes. I now consider them not normal people to deal with.

They are not an insurer as such but use a faulty insurance model to fund their ongoing customer requirements. That it is run by insurers is probably the problem. Had they simply been funded as they go and not been required to fund businesses overseas and in NZ by owing shares and other equities to bolster their payments then we would have a better proposition. One wonders why the need to invest our money this way probably paying hefty fees in the process and losing money on the investments.

Its a typical lefty fuckup. Lefties being people who know fuck all about customers.

But my point in posting above really was that there is a bad culture amoung their staff that they are so dumb and fucking stoopid that they write emails containing the kind of derogatory terms that these two did.
Its symtomatic of the organisation as these things always are. Given we have had a number of cases like this and more that are apparently covered up then everyone should ask for their full files and we could then see just how bad the culture is. I have no doubt that my name is balcklisted for helping others.

I agree V2. It’s reasonably common in my experience for workers to grumble about the odd difficult customer. It’s more concerning that they would write emails in such terms – that to me is a sure indication of a bad attitude.

Joseph is a maori – not a PI.

Some maori are as mentaly weak as PI’s – but a good proportion of them are hard working people who understand the need to get on with it – Joseph is one of these. Dont take any shit and set some rules and make them real.
I guess weepu thinks hes a PI by the way he fools around.

ACC are an insurer. A state-owned monopoly insurer, with us Kiwis compelled to use its services whether we like it or not. But they are an insurer, and not some other type of business made to use a “faulty insurance model”.

On the one hand, I don’t know of any state-owned company with customers compelled to use it that has good customer service. Basically, if your customers are forced to use you then the chances are your customer service will suck. So I totally expect that ACC’s customer service is second rate. The solution? Open them up to competition.

On the other hand, every insurance company faces a segment of their customers who think being a policyholder entitles them to receive everything they want and more. And those customers complain bitterly when faced with the realities of what their insurance cover actually provides. That doesn’t mean the customer is right. And it doesn’t surprise me that the insurance company thinks those customers are a pain in the arse. Because they are. And it doesn’t upset me if the insurer’s staff call a spade a spade … or a pain in the arse a pain in the arse.

If you think ACC’s customer service and its policy cover sucks then open it up to competition. Simple. If they have to fight to win customers then you might find they treat them better.

i still think it’s quite simple to fix the Blues. Pat Lam, please listen.

There is enough latent talent there but they are not performing to their potential.

All the talk about PIs with no, ….well, …..discipline/self discipline is academic bull.

i don’t care who the coach is. He needs to exert some authority and…….

Take the whole crew out to the barber shop.

Get them all a short back and sides each. (and if you could survive the player revolt that that would provoke, then
you would have a team)

Then, they would change from putting all their effort into growing a grouse pair of pigtails down to their arsehole
or, like Nonu, into his lovely eye makeup, dreads and little chinny, chin chin poofter beard. (wait for the faggoty, spikey, hair gelled D’Atangnon type moustace next week. Maybe a few rainbow colured rags in his hair, that would be appropriate)
and put that effort into the game.

Over to you Pat….got any guts ?
Must be worth a try babe. Now you got nutin to lose.

It isn’t only bad when the left do it, I am just more disappointed by it.

Why is it bad? I believe that you should vote for the party/person who best represents your beliefs/interests. When a Labour supporter is voting for the National candidate to prevent the Act candidate being elected it doesn’t sit well with me.

That is why I support repeal of the electorate seat threshold and preferential voting in electorate seats.

I agree with you that the preferential voting is better, although I don’t think it will prevent tactical voting. Labour and greens voters could still give their first preference to the National candidate.

Also if you think of 3 candidates A, B, and C and A is your candidate, but doesn’t stand a chance against C, but you think B would be a better candidate overall, why is it bad to vote for him. That’s essentially what preferential voting does.

Besides tactical voting has effect is limited, people get tired of it pretty quickly.

In a rural program for farmers, a female TV reporter seeking the main cause of Mad Cow disease,
arranged for an interview with a farmer who may have some theories on the matter…

The interview was as follows:

The lady reporter: I am here to collect information on the possible sources of Mad Cow Disease.
Can you offer any reason for this disease?

The farmer stared at the reporter and said,
Do you know that a bull mounts a cow only once a year?

To remind me that we are fortunate to live in a country where the National Govt holds the purse strings I slum over on the Standard once in a while. I know its not a perfect world but what an evil bunch of wankers lurk on the dark side. If you dare to not toe the party line or agree with their pathetic crap they dump on you from a great height.

If the Labour Govt ever gets back in power this country is royally stuffed and I would have to look at crossing the ditch to cleanse myself. Actually evil is not a strong enough description of these knuckle draggers.
