Jesus wept. I’ll try again…. If the Government wins the election they have the right to GOVERN. As in: pass Laws that they put in front of the country as part of their election campaign. As in: selling up to 49% of taxpayer assets. As in: restructuring welfare. And bleating from the left will not prevent these policies from being implemented.

Actually, minto57, based on your ‘argument’ to date, you really come across as a bad loser rather than someone trying to put forward any cogent reason why the the elected government shouldn’t proceed with policies clearly promoted during their campaign.

BB. Some might say there are 329 reasons for winning over the Aussie Public. I think there are 5 – ie the number of runs that he fell shy of getting Bradman’s record. He is not yet in that class and I wonder if he made a conscious decision to declare short of that target?

My comment was more to do with a large section of the Aussie cricketing public not being that keen having Clark as captain. They do not see him as macho or ‘real bloke’ enough to have the top job in Aussie sport. (if we think that being AB captain is a lot of pressure we have no idea what the Aussie cricket captain has to out up with)

After todays performance I imagine he has won over a few fans but the hard core (munter types) might take a bit more convincing.

Nostalgia don’t get me wrong. The original words were both ill-chosen and prophetic: ill-chosen since it revealed a truth about the ideology and prophetic in for example it played out not least in the emptying-of-the-larder tactic at a time when, although it was quite obvious to all in govt, it wasn’t in th best interests of the country and (thanks to the useless MSM) not at all obvious to the public.

Such spiteful, hateful intolerant approaches abound in lefty politics, and that was all I was pointing out.

This ‘lack of mandate’ thing is just another example of the same long tactic which I perfectly see: it’s simply propaganda designed to long term inculcate the masses, yes, I know that. I just get so sick of it especially when the country is in crisis yet lefties nevertheless insist on playing their usual games. This to me Nostalgia, is traitorous so I’m surprised given your pen-name that you don’t see that but apparently, you don’t. Isn’t that interesting.

The mandate is what the Govt decide it is, they will take liberties on that as they are entitled, later the people will vote on those decisions or others more pressing on the day.
JK doesn’t gloat over the victory Reid, neither should he. However, it remains clear that Key is patching out a much different course than his predecessors which is not entirely comfortable on all fronts. But you already knew that.

Indeed he is Nostalgia and IMO its due to an unrealistic set-up of memes by the lefties.

Also they profoundly believe in Keynesianism to the point of mistaking Hayeckian theory to being responsible for the de-regulation which seeded the GFC, failing to sheet home responsibility to the real culprit, which is of course the actions of the wise Chairman of the Fed surrounded by his coterie of equally wise ~~henchmen~~ advisors as instructed by the the Congress and Senate over the years, due to the lobbyists, you see.

Why don’t lefties focus on exposing that role and the global machinations as they effect us here in NZ Nostalgia, if they really do want poverty to ~~get reduced so long as poor people still vote for us~~ end?

Here are my answers to your questions from Friday

Why isn’t Iran allowed to have the bomb?

Iran isn’t allowed to have the bomb because they signed the International Atomic Energy Authority non-proliferation treaty. OK, so this isn’t really what you are asking. Perhaps a better phrasing is why shouldn’t Iran be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons.

Forgetting about Israel for the time being, if Iran gets the bomb, it could lead to a nuclear arms race throughout the region, with Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Syria. If we have a look at all the Mid East Conflicts (Iran-Iraq war, Kuwait invasion etc), it’s clear that Israel is only involved in a fraction. We have to remember that Israel is not involved in most of these conflicts.

Why is it automatically assumed that Iran if she had it would use it?

Apart from the rhetoric – even from yesterday like this, you are right, it could be very unlikely that Iran initiate a war that would cause them great loss.

However, it might not actually be Iran that uses a nuclear weapon. Iran is shipping missiles to Hamas and Hezbollah. Why not a nuclear weapon or dirty bomb. This is not just a threat to Israel, but also the US, or any other terrorist targets.

I am concerned though that a leader who has no issue killing resistance to his regime when he loses an election may also be willing to sacrifice his own people for the destruction of his enemies.

Why aren’t Israel’s 350+ nukes taken into account as a deterrent factor whenever Iran getting a nuke is discussed by the Western MSM?

Firstly neither you, nor I know how many nukes Israel has (or Iran has for that matter). It is still a closely guarded secret (no thanks to Mordechai Vanunu). Geographically speaking, MAD is not guaranteed – mainly because the total size of all the Arab nations is so vast. Israel acquired them because it was under existential threat without nukes. Imagine the damage to such a tiny country as Israel with a nuclear weapon. It would be simply devastating. The same cannot be said for Iran.

I personally wish Israel did not have nuclear weapons. I’m not sure if there is any alternative, and it’s only a matter of time before Iranian and arab technology catches up – perhaps including a missile defence system.

It’s a bit like a movie, isn’t it Tim, except it potentially involves Muslim-Christian war and economic collapse, but one supposes that’s not very important, compared to the risk of Iran getting just a bit of radio-activity.

Like I said Tim in the original post, you still have not explained why MAD does not apply. Iran is a serious country – five? times the size of Iraq. It’s not going to let sensitive material get into the wrong hands anymore than Russia would have in the Cold War. Israel knows that. The US knows it. The UN knows it. MAD applies. Security risk – same setting for any other nuclear-capable country. Yet still the useless and pathetic MSM bray for a single outcome, arousing similar braying amongst those inclined to listen.

Here are two links which actually support your argument. Two Mossad chiefs (not including Dagan) stating Iran is not an existential threat. What about Ephraim Halevy’s argument about Haredi (is he a visionary??). Did you get the book (I believe there was a delay … apologies).

I strongly disagree with your last point. The Israeli Prime Ministership has been a revolving door, nobody is killing anybody to keep it (more to get away from it).

Tim, I didn’t mean to. It’s just they’re irrelevant in the context. A potential nuclear-capable nation is what we’re discussing, not local territorial disputes which is essentially strategically what any Hamas or Hezbollah attack or strategy is.

I strongly disagree with your last point.

My point is that the nuclear-capable nation would develop the bomb, and use a proxy to deliver it (or just arm the proxy). These organisations are not capable of developing one on their own. And it’s already happening with conventional weapons, so WMD are also a reality. I feel it’s very relevant.

Yes, because the US has never shafted its friends before. Nuclear deterrence only works when you’re dealing with people who a) want worldly power more than a legacy and b) will certainly face nuclear devastation should they pull the trigger. a probably holds true for most of the leaders of the failure states. b is uncertain- the cheapest way to keep the barbarians throwing spears over the gates rather than nukes might be for the US to rent Israel a nuclear-armed sub.

MAD (Mutually Assured Destruction) is essentially the concept that “if you press your button, then I press my button”

In the case of a proxy, it’s a bit murkier. Do you target the proxy, or the provider? As per a major attack (like 9/11), it takes time just to dissect what has happened. You don’t target Iran and North Korea for supplying SCUD missiles or Katyushas.

Right. They aren’t mad enough to:

– Entice their children to blow themselves up on buses and crowded shopping malls
– Fire rockets from densely populated areas, when they are outnumbered, knowing that any retribution will hit general population
– Dance on roofs while SCUD missiles rain upon them
– Fly jetliners into skyscrapers

What a pathetic argument.

Why is there no recent polling done on the issue ? Could it be because it is still massivley unpopular amongst middle NZ ?

If Key is acting in the best interests of the nation and with the required mandate to implement state asset sales then go to the public with this one issue not clouded by the debacle that was the elction and prove it.

When a government goes to the electorate (well in advance of the election) and announces a policy of partial sale of nominated state assets and then the electorate gets the chance to vote for the same policies, then surely you can accept that National (as the winner of the election) has the right to continue with the implementation of the same policies. No??

Then, I can only imagine the outrage you felt (and wrote about) when Hulun Klark, Margaret Wilson et al decided to sever ties with the Privy Council – all without warning and without the electorate having the opportunity to vote for or against. No?? Thought not.

Your reaction is typical of a bad loser – wanting to change the rules because you don’t like the result. Unlucky. Get over it. Buy some shares in Mighty River Power. Probably a better return on your investment than Pollypad T Shirts!

And BTW, Pollypad – John Key DID go to the electorate about partial asset sales – the vote was on November 26th!

Pollypad: Please be careful you don’t have a total melt down – someone would have to clean up the mess!

No need for “PUT UP OR SHUT UP !!!” because the debate on partial asset sales is over. Done and dusted. No referenda on the cards. No second vote needed. Its now time for action. And its time for fast tracking all open cast mining / offshore oil exploration / development of our coal exports to China and others / etc. We need to increase revenues whilst at the same time decrease / eliminate the money we currently pour into career welfare bludgers / professional dole gatherers / ‘training’ on daft courses such as basket weaving etc and instead, divert the money into more productive activities.

But whilst on partial asset sales, I hear that Mighty River Power may be the first (of many) on the list – isn’t that great? A long term, proven performer and a good opportunity for Mum and Dad investors to be able to channel some of their retirement funds.

Will you be looking to subscribe? Shall I send the prospectus to you mail address in Nelson? Or will you check it out on-line? I’d hate for you to miss out on the opportunity….

There was never a debate on the need to sell state assets and it’s obvious if there were, you wouldn’t have an opinion on it unless John Key gave you one to echo.

Mum and dad got fucked over in the finance company fiasco following charlatans like Key’s advice. Most are broke and struggling and the rest will be looking to turn a quick profit selling to foreign investors at the first sign of a share price rise.

The only long term proven performance is that selling state assets makes the country poorer and shifts the profits offshore.

And who’s fault was it, Pollypad, that SCF went tits up? Mine? No. John Key’s? No – of course not. SCF was totally mismanaged – and we will see bad it was mismanaged when it all gets before the Court.

No Key wasn’t involved in that at all PW. You see anyone who couldn’t see the GFC coming a few years before 2007 was an idiot. Personally I saw something was going to happen from 2005 onward. I didn’t know what it was going to be till 2006 when I started reading about sub-prime. Since then the picture of exactly what happened has emerged which is that political pressure and donations from Wall Street lobbyists caused Congress to waive all of the regulations it used to have which prevented the toxic products from being made. These same lobbyists are also responsible for the bail-outs and the ‘too big to fail’ meme and Obama has more ex-Wall Streeters in his Administration than any other President in history.

In the 90’s Greenspan had dropped interest rates to zero which meant the dot-bomb bubble never worked its way out of the system and it formed the nexus of the real-estate bubble. Anyone who couldn’t see all this at least by 2006-7 really had no business whatsoever being in the markets at all and I count term deposits with Finance Companies who specialised in what is apparently the only game in NZ, property development, the very thing most at risk – as being in the markets.

So anyone who lost money through Blue Chip or the other fantasies really only have themselves to blame. The drop-dead obvious clue even if you didn’t the research like I did into those above things, was that the boom-bust business cycle for this run since the 1990’s was so atypical from everything we’d had before and given what happened in 1987 when the same thing happened, you’d have to be mental. It’s true of course that history repeats itself but often missed corollary to that is that it repeats when one forgets it and personally, while I was only in my early twenties in the 1980’s I knew what had happened and I didn’t forget it so if anyone older than I am did forget then I’m afraid to me, that’s their fault.

So notice in all of this PW that Key is not involved in any of this, at all. He was in charge of foreign currency exchange at Merrill. He wasn’t, in other words, involved in those toxic financial instruments. I know you know this, but like all lefties you like to setup the meme for the useful idiots: i.e. anyone inclined to vote for you. We all know you’re doing this and it’s very telling isn’t it that you would really have to be an idiot not to see what you are doing, wouldn’t so. So by definition all of your voters have to be idiots, don’t they.

How does make you feel PW. One of a number of idiots. Even a low-to-mid ranked leader of idiots, possibly. Who knows, you seem very interested in politics, perhaps you’re on a committee of idiots.

Pollypad: well, at least we agree on one thing!

Karma IS a bitch. Especially when the Gweens have been rejected by Labour under Klark and now (twice) by National.

In fact, the Gweens are currently all alone at the dance of the desperates. And when the traditional left vote swings back from the Gweens and Winston’s Worst to Labour, then we will all be back to the future. But still with a National led Government.

Now, THAT’s karma! 😀

So notice in all of this PW that Key is not involved in any of this, at all. He was in charge of foreign currency exchange at Merrill. He wasn’t, in other words, involved in those toxic financial instruments.

Key in his heart of hearts knew what was going on and i wouldn’t be surprised if he benefitted from it as many of his, and Bill English, mates probably did from allowing Sth Canterbury Finance to collapse as it did.

but my initial quote you misinterpreted is that it was the advice of charlatans like Key, not Key himself who conned mums and dads out of their savings to invest in risky housing/building related projects that went belly up in the GFC.

The greens have increased their political capital in this last election more than any other party.

Labour have abandoned the left and cosied up to the centre right to try and tap into the sheeple demographic that vote on personality rather than policy hence promoting Shearer into the lead role.

National were only a dogsballs pubic hair lick from having to do a deal with the greens this time round to form a gov’t and secure a *mandate*.

Next election we’ll see who laughs longest eh ?

No I didn’t miss that distinction, PW. Even lefty voters aren’t so stupid as to confuse the role of that of the Head of Foreign Exchange Trading at Merrill Lynch with that of a financial advisor. Even though you lefties would like your voters to swallow that one, you know that even your profoundly confused voters wouldn’t wear it, don’t you. So to create the meme, you all deliberately conflate them as being all part of the same bunch: the hated “banksters.” This is how the meme works, doesn’t it.

Why don’t you admit it here, PW, it is a meme isn’t it and you know it is, don’t you. We all know it, why not admit you’re doing it? I don’t BTW hate lefties, I don’t really hate anyone. I do have contempt for anyone’s intellect if they vote lefty for one really is an idiot if one thinks anything lefties say they stand for such as reducing poverty will ever be improved by anything they propose. A remarkable number of Wellingtonians are lefty. This is why Wellington stood out from the rest of the country on election night with the red spots amidst a sea of blue. They’re not thick it’s just a lot of them have spent their entire working lives in govt service so they have no idea of how the world works. They think it works out of Wellington. A lot of them really do buy the peace-union-big-govt lefty line of bullshit, even though they are otherwise sophisticated worldly people. So when I go on and on about them being idiots, I don’t mean they have low IQs I mean they are naive in their world view.
