mikenmild – coincidence is a fine thing with Benson Pope and surely Edwin Parry should be the invisible one – I don’t recall him at all.

Yes I did show bias but I wouldn’t change Peters or Mallard positions.

V2 could you elaborate on “rough casts” it seems to be an insult and I would quite like to add it to my vocabulary

Vaguely descriptive term used in the 70’s
Might upset the natives but if you think about mixed up breeds of dogs then you might get the gist. Sort of like, “his father was a pomersation cockaterrior”
Old saying been around forever.
Perhaps politely put as the South Africans used to,” mixed races.”
Certainly not PC these days but oh hell PC is so bloody boring. Not colourful at all.

rodders – you did manage to call me a “liar and a coward” without having the decency to dialog with me. Now that’s an altogether classier insult, but works just like “fuck you’re a dumb shit” in terms of impact. Not really cricket. But to your credit you kinda expressed some remorse later in the day.

I honestly hope this never happens as most here have strong widely different view points you would end up killing each other

Decision over Waihopai trio reserved

The judge has reserved his decision in the Waihopai spy base hearing at the High Court in Wellington today.

Adrian Leason, Peter Murnane and Sam Land are being sued for $1.2 million in damages done to the Government’s Communications Security Bureau facility near Blenheim in 2008.

They were acquitted by a jury on charges of burglary and wilful damage last year.

The lawyers for the trio argued they’re not liable to pay and are pushing for a full civil hearing to take place so they can prove that.

They say the men acted out of what they saw as necessity as they believe the Waihopai Base plays a fundamental role in the US’s illegal Nazi-Germany style war, and they themselves were left with no legal options for stopping it.

They’ve also called out the Crown for using national security to dodge questions, saying if that’s the case it shouldn’t have brought these civil proceedings.

However the Crown says they haven’t engaged because it’s just not relevant and people cannot take the law into their own hands no matter what.

The judge’s decision is expected within two to three weeks.

The Prime Minister has confirmed further changes to labour laws are on the cards.

John Key is signalling they are likely to form part of National’s election campaign.

“That would be my expectation and it’s normal for us to go into the election with some alterations in that area,” he says. “I haven’t seen the recommendations yet but I expect there’ll be one or two thing likely we’ll campaign on.”

Mr Key says Cabinet hasn’t yet had the chance to discuss the proposals so it’s too early to give an indication of what they might be like.

Late changes made to proposed aquaculture laws

Late changes are being made to proposed aquaculture laws with the Government saying the aim is to help settle Maori claims in the sector.

Minister of Maori Affairs Pita Sharples says a change is to be introduced to an amendment Bill currently before Parliament which offers Maori and the Crown more flexibility around aquaculture claims.

He says it’ll also allow a marine farming zone to be created in the Hauraki Gulf .

Dr Sharples says the changes will help Maori contribute more to the growth of the aquaculture industry.

yep that they will just like they have the fishing.

There have been a lots of these, and I’ve gone and enjoyed a wine or two and a few rounds with some fellow kiwibloggers. No deaths, a few laughs and, obviously, lots of debate. I was astounded to discover some of the most militant lefties have two arms, two legs, apparently a brain and no horns or pitchforks. Same for us Christians 😀

I recall hearing of one event in Auckland where our then resident, career bludger and permanently stonned contributor stormed out in a huff… but that’s been the limit of it from what I understand.
