The latest about GM
Still bad….or getting worse?

Today’s drop in GM’s share price to a new low represents a one-day, half-billion dollar loss for taxpayers. From the time that Treasury could first file to sell the taxpayers’ stake in GM, the losses have reached about 2.5 billion dollars. Of course the total cost of the bailout was well above this, but the Obama Administration does not seem to want to cut its losses.

Here’s a summary of the published housing Policies of the Political Parties.
As one would expect neither Labour nor NATIONAL, (you know that Governing party) have any policy published on their website.
( which probably explains why its taken Heatley and Williamson 3 years to do SSFA.)

Seems that it is just too hard and someone might question it or want them to carry out their policy.
It also explains why the Maori party have. Written, published goal setting.
And some of you dim wits want FPP back.

Scott Chris,

You are arguing for central planning where self-interested politicians get to use taxpayers’ money to prop-up businesses which would otherwise fail. These are politicans who have no idea (and can have no idea) of the implications of their decisions, even if they were the selfless angels you imagine them to be.

You claim that bailing out GM was a good thing. You have no way of knowing if that’s actually the case.

Remember when Bush bailed out steel producers? That is estimated to have cost tens of thousands of jobs in steel-consuming businesses; far more jobs than were saved in the steel industry itself. And all because the steel jobs were visible whilst the others were disparate and distributed and so lacked any political clout.

You are arguing for more of the same.

Even businesses investing their own money for their own purposes frequently get it wrong. Just what sort of investments do you expect politicians to make, spending other people’s money and motivated completely by how their decisions play out in the media?

You seem to imagine these momentus decisions are cost-free. You see GM being saved and think that’s all there is to it. But again, it’s a case of the seen and the unseen. Corporations are sitting on huge piles of money right now and not investing it. Why is that? Well in part it’s because they’ve seen the US government politise the economy. Why should they take the risk of investing if inefficient but politically-connected competitors are liable to be subsidised?

Imagine Winston Peters in charge of a politically controlled NZ economy, because that’s what you are arguing for.

They should only intervene in exceptional, well defined circumstances (national interest), and withdraw immediately when the crisis is averted.

I’m in favour of privatizing most of government services.

A good, clean living Atheist died and went to Heaven. St Peter met him at the door. “You can’t come in here,” Peter said.

All drugs have two names, a trade name and generic name.
Example, the trade name is Tylenol and it’s generic name is Acetaminophen.. Aleve is also called Naproxen.
Amoxil is also called Amoxicillin and Advil is also called Ibuprofen.
The FDA has been looking for a generic name for Viagra.

After careful consideration by a team of government experts, it recently announced that it has settled on the generic name of Mycoxafloppin.
Also considered were Mycoxafailin, Mydixadrupin, Mydixarizin, Dixafix, and of course, Ibepokin.

Pfizer Corp. announced today that Viagra will soon be available in liquid form, and will be marketed by Pepsi Cola as a power beverage suitable for use as a mixer..
It will now be possible for a man to literally pour himself a stiff one.

Obviously we can no longer call this a soft drink, and it gives new meaning to the names of ‘cocktails’, ‘highballs’ and just a good old-fashioned ‘stiff drink’.

Pepsi will market the new concoction by the name of: MOUNT & DO.
Thought for the day: There is more money being spent on breast implants and Viagra today than on Alzheimer’s research.

This means that by 2020, there should be a large elderly population with perky boobs and huge erections and absolutely no recollection of what to do with them.
