I say we send in Callum Forbes and Peter Lyon to deal with te dragon old school. They’ll work for a lot less than the song and dance option and it has culteral precedent.

Given we’re a “multiculteral partnership” this should be fine with the apointed Maori representatives of the ACC shouldn’t it.

I think his ‘Google Test’ is interesting. Adopting new tech has always been the hallmark of dynamic cultures.

just because the cars aren’t moving, doesnt mean there isnt a cyclist going PDQ in the adjacent cycle lane, so take a damn good look to the left before you step out, or better yet; use the provided pedestrian crossing located 5m away.

I hit the guy doing about 30km/h. didn’t have a choice seeing as he suddenly appeared in front of a van as I was alongside said stopped van with cars parked to my left… guy didn’t know what hit him.

Re the Hurricanes. Not really a fan but my view which might not be PC.
I’m not convinced that rugby should be a top spot on a blog site but I’ve been dying to say this for ages.Apologies to those who find this offensive.
As a southerner I have always had a negative view of the Hurricanes with their opinionated supporters and their so called superstars.
I am not overtly racist but the Hurricanes suffers from the same malady that these free spirit super star teams of playing brilliantly when allowed to but failing when they face uncompromising opposition . Plus the mercurial elements of Maori and Pacific Islands with their natural brilliance but often being awol when playing these hard nosed teams like the Crusaders and the South African teams.
To see Ma’a Nonu wandering around the paddock this year has been amazing while the TV commentators are gasping in anticipation when Nonu will make that break through.
Both Hore and Nonu grew individually for the game, not the team .
Compare the ethics of the Hurricanes and the Crusaders. There is no comparison however some critics rave on about the brilliance of the Hurricanes. Look at Mark Hammet’s efforts. The Hurricanes did not like the “d” word.
Hore is at the edge of his career’s end but I think he thinks he will waltz into the Highlanders.(perhaps he will have more time to seal watch in Otago Harbour!!!!)
As for Nonu- my feeling is that Nonu would add little to the “team”.What will happen with the All Blacks and Mr N.?

Sorry to hear about Brian Dooley, Bruce. Has the cause of death been released?

I never knew the man personally, but he was a link to my earliest forays into the online world, before the world wide web, in the wild west of FidoNet and Usenet. I ran a Bulletin Board on an Amiga 1200 and it was a much smaller ‘community’ back then, where the closest thing to ubiquitous broadband speeds was owning a 14.4k modem. Names like Brian Dooley, Terry Bowden and Daniel Ayers are still familiar to me.

It’s not as smelly as the “cesspit of nz.*” of earlier years.

Bet he knows now! Hope you were not hurt yourself. And as viking 2 said, some people just need to learn the hard way, although I doubt that applies to many people that can claim to be intelligent. I have airhorns on my bike to warn people in such situations, but if the damn fool stepped out from behind a van without even looking then I doubt that would have done any good anyway. Damn fool is lucky it was a cyclist not a truck that took him out

I dont know how some people get through their day without injuring themselves. Obviously this one didnt 🙂

The NZ dollar has hit a record high against the british pound today.

I reckon, we will see the pound at should to .70 in the next year. The kiwi dollar seems to just keep rising the more the government borrows.

While farmers are doing great since commodity prices are rocketing, non-agricultural exporting businesses are bleeding.

And, this government has the absolute gall to ‘borrow’ money they don’t need just because they are getting a good interest rate.

Glad you arent too badly injured. I went back to work the same night I went into somebody’s windscreen a few years back, did less damage to myself than I did to the car 🙂

I see the possibility that the Graham Capill thing may get paroled is already causing discussion over on the Trade Me message boards. Personally I think it is only fit for medical experimentation myself.

If it had received a reasonable sentence in the first place, eg 3-400 years then I would have no issues with parole at one third 🙂

In China, that person hit would lay on the ground rolling around “in agony”. The policeman would tell you to take the person to the hospital and pay for the hospital visit and all subsequent treatment. You would have to pay them that day. The cost of the treatment is calculated by the “victim” giving a ball park figure. It’s normally a couple of thousand RMB. That’s about two months of the average salary in China.

Thank your lucky stars you don’t live in China. 🙂

Easily really – especially when you make your own arrangements and don’t stick to the game plan.

As I have said on many occasions – Nonu will lose more games for you than he will win for you.

Actually it is good to see a Hurricanes coach weilding some discipline I hope it sticks – unfortunately history suggests that Hammet will be another Hurricanes coach who falls by the way side.

Most of the Rugby World cups are won with penalties. Who gives away the most penalties?
Who goes missing in defence, but when he defends he uses shoulder charges or high tackles?
Who gives away a penalty at ruck time at least twice a game? He plays in the front row.
It will be interesting to see the way these two play for the AB’s.

New Zealand’s longest serving prisoner Alfred Thomas Vincent has been declined parole, with the Parole Board saying the high risk he presents making his chances of ever being released bleak.

Vincent, 73, is in his 44th year in prison.

NZ could only climb back into the ranks of the wealthy with a change of attitude and behaviour but New Zealanders had ” deeply ingrained cultural characteristics”, a disdain for commercial success, no strong passion for education and a tendency for immediate gratification. The economy would not improve significantly while 350,000 working age people received tax-payer funded income support. He suggested lifetime limits on how long able-bodied people could claim state benefits.

Problem is that he said this 10 years ago and no one listened.

Nonu definitely and I have been consistent on this for several years. He is more a liability than he is an asset and as Jimbob (347) says he gives away far too many penalties. Add to that his poor positional play, high number of turnovers and inadequate defence he is not worth his place.

Hore is a different proposition. I personally have no problem if he wants to have a pint or two during the week. However I think you would agree his play has been sub standard most of this season – why? I actually think Hika Elliott has gone past him as the number 2 hooker in the country so it will be interesting to see their match up at the weekend.

Can’t agree with any of that. Nonu has been a superb contributor for the All Blacks, a much feared opponent and remains central to the RWC plans. As for Hore, it’s hard to see him missing out this year given Henry’s loyalty to players who perform for him.

It is always hard for us fans to guess at what is going on in a team environment, be it the Hurricanes or the ABs. We only really get scraps of information and rumours. Whatever it is that Hammett thinks he’s up to probably isn’t known yet. Journalists will be the last to tell us, given their dependency on team management.

Have you had a read over at The Sports Geek as I suggested. I liken Nonu to cricketers like Graeme Hick and Kevin Pietersen – flat track bullies. Like Nonu they perform well against weak teams and in games that don’t matter. One of the reasons the Hurricanes have not won any titles (and Wellington is pretty much in the same category) is that players like Nonu, Weepu, Smith and Tialata crumble under the pressure of games that must be won and just don’t perform. I am pleased that SBW has turned out to be as good as his publicity suggested – I was a major sceptic – because he is a far better proposition than Nonu for the World Cup and I would have a 100% fit Kahui alongside him at centre.

I did not say that Hore would be out of the All Blacks, after all he is in the leadership group and I think it is right to assume that anyone in that group will be picked unless they are injured. Even then it wouldn’t be the first time we have taken injured players to World Cups. What I did say is that from what I have seen Elliott may now rate as the no2 hooker – certainly if one was picking on Super XV form.

Absolutely correct. The whole point about education at school is to teach young people how to be able to survive in an increasingly complex world. If these stupid racists think compulsory teaching of a Neanderthal language is going to in anyway improve the lives of our increasingly Asian population or most of our existing population then they are in planet cuckoo land and should be locked up in a nut house.

The Nats. should be locked up with them for allowing these racists to impose this shit on Kiwi’s.
With the teaching profession facing a big loss of teachers in the next few years as many of them retire we have a problem.
Who other then the racist element is going to sign up to teach??

Roll on education vouchers and broadband. Broadband because education will become more sophisticated and students will be able to chose their teachers for any given subject. e.g. I am aware of a young lady who teaches physio on line from here. top pupils all over Europe. Paid for the work but hampered by slow broadband.
The future is coming to you and the sooner the better.

mikeenmild – this is probably getting dated now but my final word is this – in short the Hurricanes have been a disaster since day one of Super Rugby. Rarely contenders regularly pretenders populated with cheats and thugs..

How many semi finals have the Hurricanes won – ONE and they never fired a shot in the final.

How many semi finals have they lost – several and every time they never fired a shot.

I rest my case.
