Dick Smith launches Australia First Party:
“..a most important point is left out. Even though we may be able to grow to 100 million people in Australia – what would be the advantage in doing this? The question is why? Of course, to wealthy people, population growth will generally increase their prosperity and wealth. I know this, because I have made more money out of owning industrial and commercial buildings in Sydney over the last twenty-five years than I did in owning Dick Smith Electronics and Australian Geographic. So the wealthy will get more. But what about the average wage and salary earner and retiree? Possibly over 80% of our population?
I have a feeling it’s all “down hill” from now for most Australians as the population increases. I can’t think of any of our present problems in this world which are alleviated by more people. In fact, quite the opposite. I think unrestrained population growth will make virtually every problem more difficult.
Yes, we are told that efficiencies of scale will give us greater benefits. However, let’s look at our country compared with the USA. The USA has fifteen times our population, ie. fifteen times the efficiency of scale in a roughly similar land mass. Do the Americans have a higher standard of living? I don’t think so. Do they have better medical care? I don’t think so. Do they have better roads? Well, they certainly have more freeways, but their roads seem more gridlocked than ours. Do they have a better education system? There’s no evidence to suggest that they do.

The big decision about a population increase is, “what’s in it for most Australians?”. I believe the answer is “less and less”. We would do better to try and curtail our population increase, and then concentrate on being truly sustainable – moving away from fossil fuels which are most likely polluting our environment into energy that is coming every day from the sun and other sustainable sources.

Is that the same Dick Smith who is famous for trying to fly solo around the world in his own helicopter, who flew across the Tasman in his own aircraft, and who recently drove 40,000km circumnavigating the globe? Is every global warming advocate a giant hypocrite by definition?

One of New Zealand’s most high-profile inmates is threatening to take Corrections to court in an attempt to keep his “prison office”.
Career criminal Arthur Taylor has had access to a computer, printer and room where he keeps a mini law-library at Auckland’s maximum security prison, Paremoremo, for several years.
… Taylor, 55, who has more than 120 convictions, said he had planned to file an injunction, but would await Corrections’ decision.

Is prison perhaps a little lax?
A man I know who has spent most of his adult life in prison says “You can get anything you want” – booze, drugs – “Sometimes it’s easier to get them in there than outside” He is back in prison now after breaking his latest parole conditions six times.
Prisoners should be dressed in pink boiler suits and made to work in chain gangs, long enough that the only space they want is a bed.

I heard that interview hj. Smith’s answer was less than convincing, in fact he sounded like Rodney Hide in his disingenuity. A classic case of “it’s not alright for other people to do these things, especially now I’ve had my fill.”

So following this logic anyone could punch a pregnant woman in the stomach to deliberately kill the unborn child and the only thing that they could be charged with is assaulting the female. To me this doesn’t seem to be either logical or morally acceptable but then we are taking about the law.

This guy still has to qualify for residency. He is going through a dreadful tragedy of his own making and it is well publicised and strongly differing opinions expressed. Desite that, he exhibits no bitterness and, despite his agony, displays a dignity and honesty that should be an example to all. I hope he gets a light sentence. I hope he gets residency.

An interesting report on Early Childhood Education. The writers want to reverse the capture of the Clark Govt. ECA subsidies by the middle classes ($400mill odd spent to encourage higher participation resulted in only a 2% increase in numbers) As it stands each child has $70,000 spent on them before they go to school – the subsidies have been a great earner for ECA operators. So now subsidies are to be taken from the middle classes and given to the poor to encourage them to send kids to ECA. But this does not actually have a lot to do with Education: it is really about the State paying for proxy parenting. Numerous ‘experts’ want the State to intervene at the earliest stage in the life of the disadvantaged – thus the report wants money directed to increasing the enrollment of under 2yr olds in childcare. How big will the incentives have to be?

Firefox help please. I am using a notebook running XP with two users. For some reason today Firefox will not open for one user but works fine for the other. I have checked as much as my limited skills allow so further advice will be appreciated.

Has anyone noticed the latest Palin circus? Still coy about her ambitions, but she seems to have followed Goff’s example and taken to riding on a motorcycle to show how ornery she is.

Also noticing that she is looking a bit strange, as if her face has been splat with toxin.

No fixit job done on her voice yet though.

Here is the proper way how some Pacific Island Education is being done in Auckland.

Math Kid

That Island kid on those Youtube vids above is one of 2 primary school Island kids that I’m preparing for Cambridge Math Exam (year 13 level – or 7th form) at the end of this year (17th November). This is something that has never been done in this country before, ie, Year 6 primary school kids sitting year 13 (7th form) level Math in an international recognized exam.

As an aside I think Maori and ethnic groups are our best shot of moving towards a free market schooling system due to the demand to teach in their own language and culture.

Nostradamus, waste my time responding because AG responded by saying Tick Tock, which was not a respond at all, was it. He didn’t state specifically why common law is not able to resolve the point in his list, unless I interpret tick tock as something that is found in the common law.

There was considerable potential for you and AG to have a very interesting debate about property rights. I really would have liked to have seen you specifically address the 9 scenarios that AG posed. I presumed your response would have been something like: a property owner can do whatever he likes with his own property, subject to the risk of being liable to his neighbour in tort (on established tort law principles of causation and remoteness).

Am I right?

Only in America…watched an item today on CNN about an american man who decided to commit suicide by walking into the ocean. The police and fire were called and arrived pretty quickly , in time to watch the man walking up to his neck in water. The police and fire refused to go in and help him because policy didnt allow it and he might have turned violent. Also their funding for training in such emergencies had been cut two years ago so ” they were not trained to rescue the guy “. Bystanders pleaded with the rescue services to save the man but they refused. The man drowned. Huge outcry from the pubic…managers , policy makers , ” best practise experts ” all running for cover. Somebody should be charged.

davinci – I know that’s minor compared to other things, but that’s what we get when they gives us coverage, her shrill. I’ve never been a fan of Obama’s speech delivery, he has a slightly odd style, but Palin’s voice is almost like scratching a blackboard.

In the jungle there lived a gorilla and a rhino. The gorilla and the rhino had been best mates for over 5 years. They went to the watering hole together and stuff.
The next year winter had finished and spring had sprung, and the gorilla was feeling a little randy. After about a month he hadn’t managed to pull and he was feeling more randy. After another month he still hadn’t so he was feeling even more randy.
One day he was walking through the jungle and there ahead of him was the rhino bent over drinking from the lake. This was too much for the gorilla who saw the rhino’s arse right there in front of him swaying gently from side to as he drank. The gorilla couldn’t contain himself any more and ran straight at the rhino and buggered him senseless for a good half-hour – and all the time the rhino was screaming, “get off me, I’m going to kill you, you bastard!” but he couldn’t do anything because the gorilla was holding on too tight.
Eventually the gorilla finished and climbed off. “Right, I’m going to kill you, you bastard!” the rhino shouted and started running after the gorilla. The gorilla was yelling, “We’ve been best mates for 5 years, we shouldn’t let a little thing like this come between us!” but the rhino wouldn’t have any of it and he was slowly catching up.
The gorilla ran into a camp where an explorer was sat in a chair reading the newspaper. He ran off to the north but he couldn’t get past the cliffs, so he ran back to the camp. He ran east but he couldn’t get past the river, so he ran back to the camp. He ran west but he couldn’t get through the undergrowth, so he ran back to the camp. Then he wrung the explorer’s neck, grabbed his clothes and newspaper, threw the explorer over the trees, sat down, and started to read.
The rhino ran into the camp. He ran off to the north, but couldn’t find the gorilla so he ran back into the camp. He ran off to the east, but couldn’t find the gorilla so he ran back into the camp. He ran off to the west, but couldn’t find the gorilla so he ran back into the camp.
“Excuse me,” he said, “but have you seen a gorilla around?”
The gorilla, still reading to hide his face asked, “What, the one that buggered a rhino by the watering hole down there?”
“Oh God! Don’t tell me it’s in the papers already.”

Bad news everyone. The Makara windfarm now has an equivilent death toll to the Fukushima nuclear power plant.

One worker has been killed and another critically injured after an accident near the Makara windfarm, south of Wellington.

Ambulance spokeswoman Brenda Slieker said the injured man was taken by the Westpac rescue helicopter to Wellington hospital after the accident at a Transpower worksite. He suffered leg and chest injuries.

Rescue helicopter crewman Dave Greenberg said co-workers performed CPR on the second man, but he was pronounced dead by a Wellington Free Ambulance paramedic at the scene.

Paging Mrs Merkel, time to shut down the turbines for the good of the future of the Fatherland!

According to the radio news this morning Act’s heather Roy is saying that the labour opposition are filibustering on the Voluntary Student Union Bill.

I find it strange I do.
According to their previous actions in the House the National Party and Act have the numbers to pass the bill. They don’t need the Labour support nor do they need the MP support. They can pass the bill just like they have a bunch of other ones that have stolen away the rights of other groups of Kiwi’s.

So what is the problem here????

Have the Nats. decided that they don’t like to win? Have they decided to be fera.l as is their want. and piss on Act while at the same time shitting their own nest?

Do they believe that they need to keep compulsion in place to keep their friends in the universities close and their enemies in the Labour Party closer?

Do they have any shred of principle left in their organization? Seems not any more.

This will be of course a great disappointment to David Farrar as he has long campaigned ( rightly) for this compulsory injustice to be removed.
Perhaps this will be the last straw for David and he will do what all thinking Kiwi’s are doing. Quit the National Party.

Its the only way David to get them to change. Relegate them to being has beens.
