I’m listening to people saying that it is a problem that farmers might now pay down debt rather than spend spend spend all their increased income. Crazy talk.
Surely if we build strong cashed up family businesses, then we will all be better off in the long run.

Jeez – Martin Devlin sure knows how to maintain a poor public ‘image’.

Not too many moons after he created another scene in downtown Auckland (and received diversion for his troubles), we now have this latest demonstration of total petulance that resulted in the Police taking him off an aircraft as soon as it landed.

What a right plonker. His ‘don’t you know who I am?’ attitude is pathetic. He must be a serious embarrassment for his employers.

The road toll is at its lowest in more than 30 years – and high fuel prices are partly responsible.
This year, 112 people have died on the roads, – down 36 per cent on the same time last year when 175 people had died.
The road toll has not been as low at this time of the year since transport authorities began keeping year-to-date figures in 1980.
Commentators believe a combination of high petrol prices, better driver behaviour and safety campaigns have contributed.

So, government spending up by 24% over the last four years.

Blame Labour. Not John Key. He’s taking the country in the only direction the voters will let him: borrowing $380 million a week.

And besides, National has tinkerbill who sprinkles the magic dust of economic growth, at least on the budget. Not much might fall on the real economy, but who cares?

Heard an interview this morning on NewstalkZB when the Labour’s Damien O’Connor actually accepted that the ETS would increase the cost of products including milk, cheese, yoghurt etc, because not only the farmers would have increased costs (that would be passed on) but so too the distributors – delivery costs to the supermarkets would increase and they would be passed on too. The end result = increased prices. Duh.

I’d love to be a fly on the wall in the Labour caucus this morning….. Goof will not be happy…

If anybody who makes any real money or builds any real wealth in this country, wants to understand what is headed their way in 2014 or 2017 they need to look at this thread in the Dim Post – Now THAT’S wedge politics

The degree of class warfare rhetoric and hatred is almost beyond belief, given that it’s 2011. But it also should be required reading for any National Party member. These people acknowledge the uselessness of the ETS, but demand it be pushed as far as possible anyway.

If the ETS is left in place for the 2014 election it will be like WFF, a tool that can be used as “wedge politics” while benefiting the country not one bit. Once enacted it was inevitable that the argument could pivot to “you’re not paying your share”, a debate that is always a political winner as the original claims – still highly contentious and now made more obsolete than ever by real world events and the actions of other nations – are implicitly forgotten.

As for the sole farmer arguing on that thread – graham lowe – my suggestion is that you stop wasting time arguing with people who utterly despise you, build your wealth as fast as possible in paying down your huge debt load, and get ready to run in 2015 or 2018.

Tom, and some around here get on their high horses when farmers do all they can to avoid tax, is it any wonder. Still there will be those that firmly believe that you can take and take without repercussions. New Zealand has been spending other peoples money with gay abandon and look at the mess it’s in now. Stealing more and more of other peoples wealth will simply worsen the situation, surely it must be clear to the all but very stupid these policies don’t work. I believe as far as farming goes there will come a point when we fight back, perhaps a tax strike, bit hard to round up thousands of farmers and very costly to the state. We all belong to a cooperative, perhaps it’s time we start looking at just what can be done to fight these bastards.

World famous movie director Tiaka Waititi has now waded into the “Wellywood” sign debate – bleating about lack of originality, NZ creativity blah blah.

Perhaps Taika hopes everyone has forgotten his own plagiarism – the Phoenix Foundation video (“40 Years”) he directed in 2009 which totally ripped off the main ideas from Thomas Coffey’s music video (shot 4 years earlier). Taika seems to require higher standards of originality and accountability than apply to him.

Who will be next – Witi Ihimara demanding the sign is stopped? 🙂

If it’s not clear to them by now it never will be. But you’re making the mistake of thinking that their “policies” are actually intended to make the world and its peoples a better place. Even for those leftists who still believe that, there is simply the assumption that more government ideas, projects, rules and regulations will lead to better lives. The opposite possibility is not even considered and is a subject fit only for mockery.

So even for those Leftists these policies are first and foremost designed to gain political power via wedge politics, and then to extend and consolidate the reach of government power permanently. Once that’s accomplished it’s axiomatic that it will lead to good things for society. As for the likes of haters like Sanctuary, the whole point of the policies is simply power and to hell with the consequences, foreseen and otherwise.

I believe as far as farming goes there will come a point when we fight back, perhaps a tax strike, bit hard to round up thousands of farmers and very costly to the state.

This is what I mean when I say that you’re wasting your time trying to combat this stuff on a rational or utilitarian basis. Read the thread: it’s quite clear that they don’t want NZ to have such a significant dairy industry. The ultimate “tax strike” would be us converting to other types of farming – and that’s exactly what they want.

We all belong to a cooperative, perhaps it’s time we start looking at just what can be done to fight these bastards.

I hate to tell you this but all the blathering of the left about vast, powerful corporations is simply their own “enemy” fantasy required to drive the troops on. In reality big corporations like Fonterra run like scalded dogs from such confrontations as they regard the PR battles as unwinnable.

I have not yet tracked it down but there was a book published several years ago on this subject. The author related numerous stories along these lines: one was about his early days as a young lawyer working for GM in the 1960’s/70’s. Some small group produced a classic hit piece on GM about it’s cars: this young lawyer argued that they had so many facts wrong, so little evidence on their side, that it would be an easy win in court. But he was over-ruled by the legal department, who felt it was more cost-effective to simply buy the groups silence, allow the “controversy” to die in the media, and move on. They did this repeatedly.

His argument was that such approaches built up over time until GM had no comeback to even the nuttiest crap said about it: if they did demure their own past “admissions” were hauled out for review – and they had no answer to that.

I predict Fonterra will go the same way.

Likely more costly to farmers bob with interest, penalties and forced farm sales. I expect IRD might even spice the pot by running arguments about filing nil positions or even evasion. In the circs, where farmers were effectively electing out of the system, IRD might even be onto something. That would get rather more expensive and the letters you would be getting from them wouldn’t make pleasant reading over the breakfast table. Along the way, expect them to comandeer your bank accounts.

No, if it all comes to pass I think the best course of action would be to just tell Goff he’s a cunt to his face. Don’t hold back on the phlegm either.

Single, earn 130000 plus perks and moan because they can’t afford a house. These beneficiaries have done all their oe’s etc and still expect they should be able to buy a house in the middle of Auckland after wasting their money rather than saving like the rest of us, most on way less money than them

Data released with Budget 2011 reveals that those on annual incomes of $100,000 and more – at least, those who declare their income at this level – will be paying 30% of all PAYE taxes in 2011/12, the highest share that this group has ever paid.
