“Ms Armstrong, a former deputy chief executive of the Maori Language Commission, had been exchanging emails and chatting on Skype with a man she met online. Despite friends and family warning her it sounded like a scam, she decided to meet him in London.

Why, with this forewarning, did she not become suspicious when she was [obviously] asked to change her luggage to a suitcase with a false bottom in it, which must have weighed 5 kg more than she’d expect for an empty suitcase?
Why had the person, who gave her the ‘documents’ in Buenos Aires, not been able to send them secure courier to London for much less than Ms Armstrong diverting her travel through Argentina?

Puzzled: you make excellent points…whatever it’s made of, empty suitcases dont weigh 5 kg…and did you notice that – perhaps unluckily for Sharon – her “vist to Argentina” coincided with a crackdown on drug tafficking out of Argie?

Quick question:

Someone I know has been selected for Jury Duty. Its a 12 week trial at the high court. Is there anyway they can find out online what the actual trial is?

12 weeks sounds like some sorta murder thing.. or worse, a finance case!

By comparison, the White House has released statements recognizing the observance of major Muslim holidays and released statements in 2010 on Ramadan, Eid-ul-Fitr, Hajj, and Eid-ul-Adha.

The White House . . . did release an eight-paragraph statement heralding Earth Day. Likewise, the president’s weekend address mentioned neither Good Friday or Easter.

MAGGIES BAG…Brit PM Margaret Thatcher’s iconic bag up for auction today, a real piece of history. I hope the Brit museum buy it and mount it alongwith a Churchill cigar and that dilapidated Treasury Budget red box that needs replacing.

I was media minding for Baroness Thatcher in 1992 at her final political event for the Conservatives (in the rim London constituency of Mitcham & Mardon) alongwith Home Secretary Angela Rumbold. I particularly liked working with Robin Harris her speech writer (who went on to do Lady Thatcher’s biography). Relics like this are a part of political history. J.

New Zealand will spend more than $1.2 billion on investments backing the Rugby World Cup – but the tournament will make only $700 million in direct economic returns.

A Herald survey asked RWC organisers, local authorities, government departments, public bodies, transport hubs and sponsors what they had prepared for the World Cup and how much they would spend.

“The important thing is to understand the scale of this thing from New Zealand’s point of view,” said Rugby World Cup Minister Murray McCully. “It’s way bigger than anything we’ve ever done before.

Greens outraged at NZ’s Thai booze intervention

The Green Party is outraged that New Zealand is putting pressure on Thailand over its bid to put warning labels on alcohol. The World Trade Organisation said the European Union, Argentina, Australia, New Zealand, Switzerland, Mexico and the United States had raised concerns about Thailand’s intentions to put health advisory messages on alcohol bottles.

The opponents argued the labelling requirements created unnecessary obstacles to trade and could be misleading.

That’s where there is no guidance and I don’t really care who gives it, politicians or religious leaders, it would just be nice were there to be some of it, on this.
