Well there were both Sir Apirana Ngata (first Maori to hold the position of Acting PM if my recollection of history serves me right) and Te Rangi Hiroa.

Now they were both over 100 years ago. That’s not such a bad start BWAV, And things have improved since then.

Wasn’t there a Francis Haddock who was in an English comedy series about a charming old bugger who demonstrated the oddities of the legal system? I can recall one episode when he wrote a cheque on the side of a cow and forced a bank to accept it as legal tender.Nowadays you would probably take the cow and forget the cheque.

Smart lefties of course laugh and sneer at all of you dumb ones and I know this because I regularly get together with them in my conservative club, where we laugh and sneer at the workers serving us our drinks, getting our food etc.

They really do think you’re all a bunch of morons you know. Especially you phil. The ones from the Greens are the worst. You should hear what they say about you, as we laugh and sneer at you over our port and cigars.

He is clearly trolling yet DPF does not seem inclined to do anything about it.

I realise that what he has to say is irrelevant and does not get under anybodies skin but he does have a habit of destroying every thread he decides to pollute.

Austrian Court Upholds Islam’s Blasphemy Rules

Today, Elisabeth Sabaditsch-Wolff, a young Viennese mother, was convicted under section 283 of the Austrian penal code of vilifying religious teachings for her negative commentary on Islam in a lecture before a political-party gathering in Vienna; she was fined 480 Euros.

Sabaditsch-Wolff, a diplomat’s daughter, had lived and worked for several years in various Middle Eastern Muslim countries, and at the lecture in question spoke critically of the treatment of women and the practice of jihad in Iran, Libya, and other places that she had lived in.

The court found that Austria’s free-speech guarantees protected her from hate-speech charges.

However, it seems the case turned on the judge’s reasoning that her statement that Islam’s prophet Mohammed was a “pedophile” was defamatory since his child bride Aisha (age six at the time of marriage and nine at the time it was consummated) remained his wife when she turned 18.

The case was brought by prosecutors after complaints by a mainstream Austrian weekly magazine that had secretly taped and then wrote about her lecture. She plans to appeal.

Haha. Yes indeed – I assumed a comma after female. Possibly because there is a dearth of them on so many comments in the thread 🙂

As for being in agreement or not, I agree that all of us are able to achieve more for ourselves if we choose to make the most of the opportunities given to us here in NZ. Free education is a very good example of something our society provides for us all to help us develop our potential.

I think it was Gary Player who remarked “The more I practice, the luckier I get.”

I agree that all of us are able to achieve more for ourselves if we choose to make the most of the opportunities given to us here in NZ.

Hell, no! Why do I have to study and work hard if I can sit on my back, relax, leave school early, and become an idler leaving off the unemployment benefit.

In the process, I might get lucky impregnating a few birds and making them worthy recipients of the DPB, since I will bugger off and forget about those pesky children. The fun is in fathering them.

I can buy smokes, fast food, Sky TV, and plenty of drink with taxpayer’s money, so why should I bother looking for work? And if I need more money I can always resort to terrorising a chemist or two using a weapon.

Leave work to the fools who want to get ahead in life. I don’t, because I’m unskilled, thick, my brain is addled with drugs, and overall I’m happy being a parasite.

Winston Peters says the Government has pestered him to accept an overseas ambassadorship – to get him out of politics and out of the country.

Prime Minister John Key has publicly stated he will not work with the NZ First leader but Peters says he’s been getting very different messages behind the scenes.

He says he was approached on behalf of Murray McCully, foreign affairs minister and National Party strategist, in 2009 and last year, a claim McCully denies.

Speaking to the Herald on Sunday, he said the first mention of a diplomatic posting was a phone-call from Richard Griffin, the political insider who was previously a top adviser to Prime Minister Jim Bolger.

The second was from a former political figure who he refused to name. Both said they had been asked by McCully to act as go-betweens.

Vandals paint swastika on Northland sports stadium

Ground staff have painted out about 10 slogans, including a swastika, at Toll Stadium in Whangarei where the Warriors meet the Burleigh Bears in a pre-season game tonight.

Vandals got onto the ground overnight and left their handiwork over about a third of the stadium grounds, said stadium manager John Lynch. There was nine or 10 different markings over about a third of the field. It was spasmodic, no damage to the field.
