wouldnt these ‘counters’ placing money in IPredict be a breach of contract or something… maybe even illegal?

Unfair advantage for ODT subscribers? Their second poll is on the front page today, hard to find on their website. The first poll last week also favoured Cull, but the gap has widened.

George Patton, commenting yesterday evening on “Will TVNZ be prosecuted for One News tonight?”, said –
“When I saw TV1 I roared with laughter because I leapt to a certain conclusion.
But it may not be apparent to all.
Here is the link to the TVNZ article. What do Kiwiblog readers think?”

I would suggest George would be the rare person to pick this up without any further clues, or to note it without prior knowledge. It would have been different if the posters of candidates had been rearranged or the camera shot zoomed to the board rather than the presenter. Without slightlyrightly suggesting the timing of 56 seconds in the clip was interesting I would think many ‘average’ viewers would still not pick it up, so while DPF’s question was “Will TVNZ be prosecuted for One News tonight?” the question could still be “Did TVNZ break name-supression on One News tonight”.
And another question is: Should a news crew rearrange a ‘natural’ environment to cater for a name suppression, when they, by law, should not know what they should be avoiding showing.

It is a little like DPF way back, commenting on the name suppression of the entertainer, showed a Facebook page with all pertinent references blocked out, to show how much information could need to be withheld to met law requirements. He did leave one small margin around the border of a CD cover where his block didn’t quite cover it, and that was enough to match that CD to the entertainer, as was confirmed when I out of interest downloaded the graphic and found it opened in Mac Keynote which allowed all the blocks to be removed, totally opposite to the intention with which DPF had posted the image. [ – image no longer available] So did he break name suppression by providing me with the information but needed my accidental discovery of the nature of the graphic; or did I break suppression myself when I could not have done that without the help, inadvertent as it was, of some one else.

I would suggest TVNZ did not break suppression in yesterday evening’s One News, but this only shows how messy some of these suppressions can be.

Henry questions someone who is visibly not a typical New Zealander, he must be sacked, TVNZ is a platform for bigotry, Henry is normaising reacism in the work place and tv in India has a ticker on the bottom of the screen saying kiwi presenter racist.

I agree there’s certainly a bucket load of racism about these things. But this white mother fucker is really fucking tied of being beaten with a fucking brown neck racist stick and being expected to take it.

While Key and Gaffe and co are buzzing about the intemperate remarks of a Gypsy TV commentator, NZ’s currency is so hot it could melt, and the world just could be in a new Black October. Anyone find much in our lightweight MSM about the currency crisis sweeping the world and affecting NZ? Bit about the Australian Reserve Bank surprising by not raising interest rates, that’s all.

Meanwhile, the Bank of Japan is pushing interest rates down towards zero and has set up a US$60 billion fund to buy risky assets, including for the first time for the Japanese central bank, real estate investment trusts and stock funds. Stand by for a new flood of Japanese savings for NZ, buying everything our politicians will sell.

Brazil, one of the rising economic BRIC giants (with China, India, and Russia) has doubled taxes on foreign purchases of Brazilian bonds to fight foreign speculators who have driven up the country’s currency. It’s not just non-US currencies that are being driven up. Gold is at an all-time record high of US$1341 a Troy ounce, silver is at a 30-year high, tin is at an all-time record high, and copper is through the roof (which will see NZ criminal scum ripping off everything made of copper).

The kiwi dollar, of course, is soaring, and threatens to wipe out non-dairy exporters.

What is NZ doing to dampen the kiwi dollar? Fuck all. On the contrary, in London, as reported by Reuters on 26 September, Philip Combes, treasurer of New Zealand’s debt management office, has been talking up the kiwi. Here’s what Reuters said:

“There’s clear scope for the New Zealand dollar to appreciate in the medium-term,” Combes told a conference in London. His comment prompted a rally in the New Zealand dollar, which rose to an eight-month high of $0.7418.

Reuters reported New Zealand has been increasing its bond issuance this year. It says at the moment (26 Sep), outstanding debt stock totals around 35 billion New Zealand dollars, and Combes told Reuters on the sidelines of the conference he aimed for it to rise to around 50 billion New Zealand dollars, adding he would be disappointed if the stock fell below that level.

Combes also said the Debt Management Office expected to raise NZ$1-2 billion from a syndicated 2025 linker issue, and that the country would soon launch a 2019 bond.

Farmers, exporters, and their many employees and dependents and contractors, can relax knowing our bureaucrats are talking up the kiwi dollar. And knowing, too, our politicians are committed to a high-currency strategy.

I did not send any letter or email or contact DPF in any way yesterday. You posted the sort of stuff that DPF has demerited you for before so you know damn well what he will ping you for. You posted on a thread (Previous post hidden) where it was obvious DPF would be keeping a very close watch on. You got pinged, and then had a whingy hissy fit.

Did anyone complain about my post? Who was it, because whoever they are they’re damn politically motivated frauds. Especially if it was Pete George who makes a specialty of calling everyone a liar without any kind of reason..

You are the specialist liar, coward and hypocrite. And your accusations are false and without foundation.

That’s my opinion, I’ve said my piece and I’m going to leave it at that. Hop back to the Rabbit if you want to have a moanfest about it.

I thought it was done and dusted but it looks like the Paul Henry thing is getting stoked along.

I’d never bothered watching the Dikshit “joking”, thought it was stupid but that was all. But the video clip is still apparently on the TVNZ website under the heading “”Paul Henry laughs about the name Dikshit”. And the transcript, especially now knowing his GG attitude, does make you wonder about what the hell TVNZ are up to.

In it, Henry deliberately mispronounces Mrs Dikshit’s name, despite being told at the outset that it is pronounced ‘Dixit”.

“The dip shit woman. God, what’s her name? Dick Shit. Is it Dick Shit … it looks like ‘Dick Shit’,” Henry says through bouts of laughter.

“It’s so appropriate, because she’s Indian, so she’d be dick-in-shit wouldn’t she, do you know what I mean? Walking along the street … it’s just so funny.”

TVNZ must think it’s fine for breakfast TV, and that it meets their charter obligations, but I have to wonder even more now why the hell John Key is associating himself with a program like that for. Does he think it’s funny?

Now TVNZ chief Ellis is to call personally on our Governor-General (when he returns from the Commonwealth Games) because of Paul Henry’s questioning whether the GG was a “real NZer”. Ellis is obviously propelled by his board which has presided over the slide of NZ’s public television system. If Ellis wants to be a hero he should say, I’ve said sorry and disciplined Henry, that’s enough. “Directors, you can blow your delivered apology out your ears, and fuck that mob out the front for what they are, a handful of protesters organised by sorry old Marxists.”

Meanwhile, NZ Hooerald reporters are harassing Paul Henry at home. Tabloid tigers when they have the PC prissies clapping them on.

Get yourself a couple of Rotties, Henry. They will keep the girl reporters at bay. Of course, Henry, if you had been a new New Zealander of Asian, African, Middle East, or Pacific Islands origin you probably wouldn’t need dogs. Too bad you’re just an NZ-born Gypsy. No-one gives a stuff about Gypsies, in Europe, the Middle East, or here. Not even the race-righteous, PC, apology-demanding freaks.

Watching the Australian dollar soar (and some commentators are predicting it will go as high as US$1.20 next year) I was wondering what NZ’s response would be. Australia is pumping out so much mineral wealth that there are some advantages in it having offshore buying power. I can’t see the same argument applying to NZ.

As you say, it’s going to hurt our major exporters. It’s also going to hurt retailers. As people figure out that a high dollar means they can buy luxury goods from the US and UK for less than they can in NZ (even allowing for shipping), many retailers will suffer. And as spending on tat like shoes and handbags rockets, the Reserve Bank will emerge po faced, tell everyone they’re naughty for spending their own money, and raise interest rates, putting more pressure on mortgages.

Talking up the dollar would thus seem damaging and counter-intuitive. Or am I overlooking a very good argument in favour?

And meanwhile, we have one of the most significant electoral corruption cases in NZs history, where the accused has crown-granted name suppression and story hides away, with almost complete absence from our MSM. Henry is the fall guy, while real sleaze and corruption passes quietly below the radar. When will NZs wake up to this?

The only rationale I can see for talking up the dollar is to allow us to renew debt cheaply and raise new debt cheaply.

It may also relate to the maturing of tranches of overseas debt brought in by the trading banks from Tokyo and Europe. This has mostly gone to feed the property bubble.

The Tokyo mums (who manage Japanese household savings) took on currency risk in return for NZ’s relatively high interest rates compared with Tokyo’s near-zero rates. So they effectively bought NZ dollars If the banks want them to buy new samurai bonds to send money to NZ on the same basis, they can’t let the Tokyo ladies lose capital from a low kiwi dollar when it’s time to return their money to Japan.

It seems to me a high kiwi would thus facilitate the banks raising new money from Japanese (and other foreign) savers by preventing losses on earlier issues. Whose going to send money to NZ for high interest rates if last time they did this, currency movement more than wiped out the return?

Similarly with Govt debt. If we’re rolling over debt that came it at NZD equals US50c we can make handsomely on the deal if we repay at US75c. Some banker or maths person might kindly correct me, but it seems that if we borrow $US1 billion with the kiwi at NZ50c we get $NZ2 billion. If we repay this when the kiwi is at US75c we repay $NZ1.333 billion

Yeah krazy, I saw that interview (in fact I should hat tip my link to the video above to someone in the comments thread at WUWT). Funny that nobody from the AGW side would front up for the interview. Guess they’re in cover-your-arse mode at the moment. I feel bad now about owning a Sony TV. I’ll be looking for an excuse to upgrade to another brand soon 🙂

As a grandson of a scotsman who came here from Clydeside in the 1870s, with a paternal Australian Grandmother who was possibly descended from stock hand picked by leading members of the English Judiciary and on my mothers side having Celts who were victims of the Highland Clearances who came to Lyttelton in the early 1850s I am a NEW ZEALANDER who has only that simple ethnicity on any questionaire I am asked to complete.
I am firmly in the camp that supports Paul Henry in all his irreverence on NZ TV. I am at a complete loss as to why all those who would have his head removed at Tyburn for representing how I, and if the polls are accurate, a significant portion of our population, feel about this wonderful country. We have a lame duck person with a name that does not have a familial feel to me, basicly having no Issue with a comment that has me committing a hienous crime in my relationship with my late mother, made by an elected member of the highest court in my country. We have two radio jocks on air every weekday at noon who are blatently racist. A political party that exists for one single reason, to promote Maori as a superior race in this country. We have several (a majority in fact) political parties existing to promote a lifestyle of indolence by significant numbers of our citizens, producing no wealth but being funded by a diminishing number of wealth creators. We have protestors damaging public property at a cost of millions of dollars. We have a rising level of violence, drug use and other criminal actions. And now a significant attack on our local body electoral system that a substandard member of our judiciary deems necessary to perpetrate for the last few days of voting by supressing the connections to prominent candidates in the first super city elections.

No I haven’t joana but geopolitically I watched it grow into a powerful regional player with efficient infrastructure and administration under Mahathir and that’s why I like him. I also like Lee Kuan Yee for the same reason re: Singapore.

I recognise neither nation is oriented ideally indeed I have in the past referred to Singapore as a velvet-glove democracy. The fact I recognise their shortcomings as I do in every other country I think about however doesn’t stop me and shouldn’t stop anyone from recognising other dimensions.

The State Services Commission has been unable to find the culprit behind the leaking of sensitive Cabinet decisions.

After issuing a report today, State Services Commissioner Iain Rennie said two investigations had been launched following the unauthorised disclosure of information from a cabinet paper on mining and a subsequent leak involving a further cabinet paper on state sector agencies.

Ready for NZ to head back into recession?

New Zealand’s GDP grew by a paltry 0.2% in the June quarter and will probably be negative in September. This puts New Zealand back in the recessionary zone – hardly the environment where the Reserve Bank should be raising interest rates. The Reserve Bank’s previous (now revised) annual GDP growth predictions of 3.7% were grossly optimistic (wrong).

Well now it seems that not just Maori are lagging behind in schools. Its reported that boys are going backwards under the current system with NCEA results showing this.
About time we reappraised the school system and its feminist control and agenda. Boys and young men, both Maori and Pakeha are being disadvantaged by the system, much as they are in the area of youth unemployment.
How the hell this country expects to grow its business, its exports and its community when we continue to disengage and disenfranchise the male population is a question worth an answer?

DPF; You have often expressed the same thoughts about youth rates so do we think its time we stood up for the males in our country and made it a constant subject of debate. It seems so often when I talk to people about this,both men and women with sons who are average good citizens, that they empathize with the issue. It just seems that teachers and politicians don’t.

Boys are lagging further behind girls in school achievement, with new results showing that a double-digit gender gap has opened up.

Education Ministry figures show that, in last year’s National Certificate of Education Achievement, 50 per cent of girls passed level 3, but only 37 per cent of boys did. At level 2, 74.1 per cent of girls passed, and 65.7 per cent of boys.

Good call Viking. Boys are underachieving, Maori are underachieving, and Maori boys are more likely to end up in prison highlighting the worst of this educational failure. But parental failure must be recognised as a major contributor as well.

For education to work it has to be interesting. I don’t know how much it has changed but I was as bored as hell at school and left because of that. I could easily have gone on the higher achievement – but I was one of the lucky ones who was able to manage in the system, I suspect more and more boys just can’t be bothered trying. Somehow they need to be inspired to learn, and need subjects that will retain interest. That ain’t easy.

I think all kids who fail are of equal value and as Kiwis we need to pressure the government to deal to this racist outlook as all our kids are important to us regardless of gender and race.

sorry I haven’t got much time to write on here at present but will make a few comments..there is a definite madness about Mahathir..hard to describe or pin point but definitely there..Probably people would say he is a complex character..charming , educated , intelligent in a certain way. A relation of mine met him decades ago..I think he was impressed..He would have been gracious..but then graciousness is a Malaysian cultural tradition to this day.
It could well be that he got worse over time in the theme that ” absolute power corrupts absolutely..”
Even tho he so totally championed the Malay cause thru UMNO , he is part Indian…I think his father was an Indian school teacher , so he had a huge advantage over the majority of Malays of his generation..Indian intelligence and Indian emphasis on education. He has written about his early days with his father…will write more later.
