On Sunday TV One. Margaret Mutu and Hone Harawira. I think Margaret Mutu’s problem is that she is flogging a dead horse: the idea that archaic Maori beliefs and cultural practices can be made to be seen as having credence in the modern world. A bit like telling Grandma she’s still the most beautiful girl in the room.

Under a clause in the Local Electoral Act, it is an offence punishable by up to two years in jail to offer or give money to voters.

Not tax cuts Pete – a rebalancing.

Those who do not increase their consumption will be better off – the saving will help that imbalance in our economy.

Those who choose to spend the money in the pay packet will not only help to grease the wheel of the domestic enconomy, which does need consumption (even with the attendent inflaitonary pressures.) At the same time they will help to keep the tax coffers at an acceptable level.

At the same time we should not lose sight of the changes to depreciation on investment properties.

Where’s the bribe Pete? Looks to me like the govt is giving the people back the money that was theirs in the first place, to then do with it as they see fit

Mrs Miles said she, Mr Darby and Mr Schwass had been approached to stand for C&R and Mr Slater “knew full well we are not a Labour ticket”.

Mr Bergin, who is 18 and deputy chairman of the North Harbour branch of the Young Nats, said the actions of C&R were typical old-school politics.

The only news I can find on Achim Brauer is this article from two years ago. In it, Dr Brauer actually says that the last ice age happened very quickly. He doesn’t say anything at all about the next ice age. And if you track down his website, this appears to be based on a publication from 2000. So, not exactly breaking news, and he’s not forecasting an imminent ice age.

It implies that the covenants which do not conform with Islamic values will not be followed

Daylight Saving is a manifesttion of the fact that the cat lobby captured Peter Dunne and is holding him total hostage to their devious plan for cats to get fed an hour earlier in Spring.

Our cat was inconsolable at 5pm last night even though her body clock said it was 4:00pm and she is never fed till 5:30.

Bloody interfering do-gooder MP’s and their warped sense of what the commiunity really wants.!!!!!!

People might have to actually look at ways of using electricity efficiently.
Unlike what is going on at the moment in most NZ homes.

Whereas if we lived in a rational, civilised country. The amount of power generated would increase with time, power cost would decrease, technological efficiency would increase, and useful applications of electricity would increase.

Instead we live in a backwards country where generation grows slower than usage, cost increases, and we attempt to utilise less of the beneficial applications of electricity.

We need both more power generation and new thinking about power efficiency.
Like moaning about power bills when a house has 100 down-lights. FFS the reflected light off a non mirrored surface is fuck all of half a rats arse. Dumb dumb dumb

Cheap $50 heaters that are not great investments to say the least, continuous and unending use of the clothes drier when the bloody sun is shining outside and a plethora or piss poor plug packs all drawing 7 watts just to run themselves (quiescent power).
Add to that the poorly insulated homes only starting to be addressed now.
Hell if you want that sort of lifestyle don’t let me stand in your way but also don’t expect me to pay for either through subsidies.

Reminds me of SUV drivers moaning about petrol/diesel prices.

More generation and infrastructure is expensive so even bypassing the luddites with expanded power capacity will not cause power prices to drop.
My personal view there is sore need of greater distributed micro-generation but that’s another topic.

That we have never dealt to this apartheid as a country makes us hypocrites.

krazykiwi – the one that I find just as “tremendously significant” is “Financial Reform”.

The present monetary system is imploding and needs addressed more quickly than climate cooling/warming/not changing. Something needs to be done now. Fractional reserve banking is fucking us all (bar a tiny minority) really badly.

Also I see one of the commenters on the Telegraph website had this to say:

@kaya – Yes, “Financial Reform” is rather ominous sounding. The “who got to him?” question is a good one. I can’t shake the feeling that Key and/or Smith have some vested interest(s) in the Climate Change industry. Smith did have a forestry/timber company ‘settle’ their claim (~$16m?) against him just three weeks before the ETS started. Key almost certainly has large Bank Of America investments and these guys have a environmental and carbon trading interests. All speculation but there are a few dots which look connectable.
