Oh i dont think Nga Puhi want money starboard. They want rightful autonomy over their land and seas again, which they never ceded.

Just like Tuhoe who never even signed the treaty, are in reparations negotiations and to which the Declaration of indigenous rights only strengthens their case.

Homestays might have to be deployed like in the London Blitz.

Pinetree told me that 120,000 are reasonably expected, and with many coming early, and/or staying late so that they can ensure cheap flights and an opportunity to see this wonderful country.

The Australian contingent expected to be the most numerous by a long stretch, especially with the AUD looking so strong for the forseeable.

stated We never signed the Treaty and therefore have autonomy over our land and seas.
I don’t remember, for example, this being stated by Nga Puhi at the time of the Foreshore Seabed law changes – they didn’t in MSM say THIS DOES NOT APPLY TO US! WE ARE AN EXCEPTION, WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO ABOUT IT?

The waitangi tribunal is the only place to legitimately air their greivances and seek reparation for the wrongs, and besides the confiscations weren’t enacted under wartime conditions.

The colonial gov’t legislated in peacetime to steal the land which sparked the maori resistance that still continues.

i know but thats what the treaty did. it fixed tribal borders and so halted the natural process for hapu to form new tribes, alliances and essentially created an environment to suit the classic colonial ploy of divide and conquer.

I’ve argued before it would have been better if maori hadn’t signed the treaty and fought out their tribal civil wars with the eventual winner becoming one single united maori nation instead of the fractious union of individual sovereign iwi we have now.

chances are it would been a fight to the death between nga puhi and tainui with the winner going on to assimilate ngai tahu as ngai tahu themselves did to nearly all the other sth island iwi.

it would even have suited the colonial gov’t to have fostered that climate of tribal war instead of creating a treaty they never had any intent of honouring. Let em kill each other and step in to pick up the pieces when no one had any real claim to anything anymore.

Sorry William, with grammar the comma separates and makes stand alone the phrase ‘permanent land confiscations this time’, as to diferentiate between the current Treaty process. If I had wanted to use the ‘this time’ phrase to cover jails and tears I would have put a comma after confiscations, so as to cover all the sub components of the sentence.

Jeezus at least you are honest about it mate. I grew up in Levin, did you? Do you remember the apartheid that was run at Horowhenua College? All the Maori were to the South of the main campus, separated by the tennis courts ie. 6m high cyclone fencing. There were a few middle class Maori scattered through the white part of the school. Charming set up.

There was one Maori guy I grew up with who was a real dynamo he wanted to change things for the tribe in Levin but he has ended up like so many in that foul little place, wrecked by drugs.

So Murray if you can say that Maori made you racist; we can conclude that you and your Pakeha friends made my mate a P addict.

I’ve got a lot of sympathy for the plight of the Maori, the land confiscation, the misinformation of the treaty process, the effects of disease and alcohol brought by the Europeans, institutional racism, ignorant settler mentality, all of that, but we’re coming to a time now where we have to move forward. If you just antagonize the majority with extremism u won’t get anywhere. Also, a lot of Maori also have Pakeha heritage, have you asked them what they would like? What r u advocating, a return to the tribal past, that bird has flown. Everybody that is born in the world has to make the most of their circumstance and push forward — Maori have a better opportunity than since colonisation first happened to actually make a difference and keep their culture alive, but if everybody just promotes separatism you won’t get far. Pakeha are still the majority, and they have kept the home fires burning over most of the country for the last 150 years. If some were pushed to test the sovereignty of the NZ government through armed aggression, they would just be put in jail. But if Maori leaders were to stand up and offer genuinely different governance approaches to issues like the environment, conservation rather than mining, public access for all to our coastline, sharing and community over individualism, I would support them.

You may well ask why those jobs have disappeared.
Today I was invited into a factory. The business adds finishing to metal products and the like. The owner pointed to a pile of aluminum gates, long one for auto gates. He said that’s where you young peoples jobs have gone. To China, the product is flimsy but cheaper and we have to fund our unemployed youth to collect a benefit while the China man works for what he can get.

Can anyone wonder why youth in NZ are angry (and Drink),when being locked out of jobs by the socialists non youth rate policy.

So Paula Bennet is not right and neither does she go into bat for the youth. Why because their vote doesn’t count. If their vote counted and was needed the attitude would change. And it will. for by election time the Nats. will be looking for voters.
I can never remember so much antagonism towards a Govt. in such a short time.
Todays Kiwiblogs are good example of how people are feeling but the oblivious just carry on in their myopic way.
Oh well.

Why Key should have remained with the delgation to the Middle East.
