Greg O’Connor: Police abused every day for doing their job

…there is little focus on tackling the burgeoning culture of contempt for police and the rule of law which leads a growing minority to think police are fair game.

That contempt begins with the abuse, insults, hiding in a crowd and pelting police with bottles, spitting and physical assaults routinely inflicted on police on a daily basis.
If bottle-throwing, hurling abuse, spitting, shoving and punching police attracted half the public criticism and backlash that is so often directed at police who are involved in a chase, we’d have a far safer society for everyone – not just for police.

It also includes a widespread contempt shown for laws and enforcement (eg “revenue gathering”) that is widespread amongst the general population. We may not like all the laws we have, but one person’s abuse for a speeding ticket is another’s decision to do are runner (vehicularly) and another’s sheep impression of throwing a bottle from the protection of a crowd.

If WE want better respect for the police and laws then WE need to learn to respect them more. And maybe then they will be able to deliver more of what WE want.

Yep, a couple of major reversals across the game – Southee started by getting hammered and finished under pressure by basically winning the game for us. And Tait started with a hiss and a roar, then hissy fitted his not-super over to lose for them.

Great game though, and a great knock by McCullum. Very well supported by Hopkins who made the final score possible. Pity they only choose one man of the match.

Mr Hamilton of Civil Defence:”We are dealing with Mother Nature – and human nature – and both are unpredictable.

Not much to discuss – FWs will always ignore common sense and warnings, and will probably be the first to be griping if the warnings aren’t given and shit happens. The trouble is other people end up having to wipe their arses.

I blogged about this yesterday and I am disappointed that few people are concerned about the way adult women are treated for the sexual abuse of adolescent boys. Not only do they get non custodial sentences but permanent name suppression.

Below is another case of name suppression.

What are the odds that

This mother will get permanent name suppression?

Will not got to jail?

That a father would neither get permanent name suppression or a non custodial sentence?

I must keep a look out for Interesting Names

An Auckland mother has allegedly been having sex with her 14-year-old son’s best friend, after plying him with “copious” amounts of alcohol.

She has been arrested and charged with unlawful sexual connection with a young person. She cannot be named for legal reasons.

If another case is anything to go by and she is found guilty she will get a non custodial sentence and permanent name suppression.

I believe that the sentence would be a lot different if it was the case of a father having sex with his daughter’s best friend after plying her with alcohol.

The rest were, and played like, an ill-disciplined, badly led rabble who batted atrociously and thoughtlessly, bowled even worse and dropped catches at vital times.

I don’t think that after the Boxing Day tsunami anybody is under any illusions that these can be very destructive. They are also fortunately rare events.

There is a short window of opportunity for authorities to make decisions, and that’s always based on some uncertainties about how the initial event will be transmitted, how far it will carry and how destructive it would be.

I was somewhat more disappointed at some of the media reports- which did inflate the risks & danger.

I was awoken at some ridiculous hour yesterday morning (about 07:30 I think – who would have known such an hour existed) by a fellow banging on my door to advise me that a tsunami warning had been issued and to be aware and listen to my radio for updates.

Having thought about it I appreciate his efforts.

In the event of a tsunami hitting the area I live the options include placing one’s head between one’s legs and kissing one’s ass goodbye.

I thank that man.

What a performance by NZ last night, apart from McCUllum’s barnstorming innings, Southee showed tremendous skill in his last 2 overs, and the super over.

Still some points to ponder though- is Ingram the goods against quality attacks, what will happen to our bowling attack when Bond and Vettori retire, is Taylor trying a tad too hard to dominate at the moment…. and the biggest question, when will Jacob Oram fuck off for good to India

The alliance of Catholics and Mormons should surprise no one. It is a natural consequence of the omnipresent culture wars. The only real question is when and if Mormons, Catholics and Christians join forces with Islam to try and force a global theocracy.

The idea is not as far fetched as it might sound. The sad fact is, once one accepts the existence of a non-existent god, one is capable of most any atrocity in the name of that non-existent god.

Civil Defence fucked up big time. They went all NOTHING TO SEE HERE MOVE ON even while Australia and Hawaii launched their own warnings – and guess which little country happens to be just east and south of them respectively? And then with their crap communications. No wonder the 6am surfers didn’t know about it – unless you were on the internet, radio or satellite news stations you would have had no fucking idea what was going on.

Also Canadians are fucking noisy.
