I was remind of the skit in a Monty Python film of the restaurant scene with Mr Creosote.
The fish all saying morning, morning.
It’s funny what the brain stores and regurgitates some times.

I wish that there was certain stuff not stored on the old hard drive, that’s why I counsel younguns to be careful what you allow in your life as it’s all recorded and doesn’t go away, no matter how much you wish it too.

Perhaps some still regard the “underground swingers scene” as morally repugnant, and while not criminal in the legal sense, still well outside the bounds of most ‘descent normal folk’ (whoever ‘they’ might be).

You are the would be elitist RB, wanting to remove all current politicians and most journalists. And go against the vast majority of middle-ish moderate kiwis. That is “my kind”, and you seem to have cut yourself off from understanding “my kind”.

There is no one leading any radical reform movement here (apart from some isolated racial groups). There is no traction, no focal point, just a few wishful thinkers on blogs. And no matter how much wishing and praying you do the simple fact is that apart from the age-old grizzling about politics and politicians there is little to show for deepseated resentment, certainly not widespread.

Even in the US where it is acknowledged that there is a lot of people fed up with politicians there is a lot of doubt if the resentment will do anything but splinter and factionalise the right.

You may wish to try and trash the National coalition and hope things turn to crap here, but it doesn’t look like happening, National has widespread popular support, and if it makes modest advances in tax and welfare reform it will maintain that support.

Get used to it.

FIrst day back at school for my kids today. Daughter at new school – we moved from the Hutt to a place 35km from Wanganui in teh sticks. My son started last Wwednesday with a rowing camp. Two months of play station and watching TV beaten out with six hours a day rowing for four straight days. Good luck to all whose kids are back at school today.

FFS taxi driving can be fraught but what has it got to with the government. Is there legislation preventing the drivers and owners from installing protection. Are owners of taxis liable for not providing a safe working environment. I am a very rare user of taxis so why is it my tax dollars that should solve a problem.
Il have enormous sadness and sympathy for the family of the recent victim but there are solutions.

Perhaps, but if I knew of someone suffering at the other ‘address’, then this may cause a tear to come to my eyes. And as He will wipe away all tears I believe that perhaps some/all negative memories will be removed. But time will tell.

Aside:
Man, was it a full moon last night? That ‘abortion’ debate was some set to by the ‘opposition’ – I had to call on an extra measure of grace. It’s certainly never boring in this joint. Hence my “Another day in DPF’s version of paradise”.

gravedodger; well no its not the Govt.’s responsibility. Our OSH laws place workplace safety squarely in the hands of the employer. Not until a taxi owner gets done by OSH will anything happen. And this whining has been going on for about 100 years. Cheap cars rather than purpose built or modified.
Now nothing I have said condones the actions of this individual who perpetrated this killing and he should be be sent to jail forever. That of course doesn’t bring the taxi driver back nor does it help[ his family.
Taxi owners need to be subject to the same OSH rules as everyone else.

NZ likely to miss deadline

The Government is relaxed about missing a United Nations deadline for committing to the breakaway climate change agreement, the Copenhagen Accord.

“No decision has been made yet,” a spokesman for Environment Minister Nick Smith said yesterday.

The accord emerged from the ashes of last year’s disappointing climate change talks in the Danish capital, but is seen as a way of maintaining momentum.

Countries have until today (northern hemisphere time) to submit their commitments to greenhouse gas emission cuts and billions of dollars of short-term financial assistance for the countries most vulnerable to climate change. But many are expected to miss the deadline.

Green Party co-leader Russel Norman said not making a commitment would make New Zealand look poor.

“We want to see the policies to back it up as well.”

And so we continue. Some people just never learn.!!!

Returning the favour RB, you tell me plenty of stuff and try to apply generalisations and labels to me all the time. You think repeating crap will make people think it is true, the problem with that approach is that it won’t change me at all.

What approach makes more sense:
– accept that we have a reasonable but flawed democratic system and country, and work to improve things incrementally
– try to undermine and disparage our politics and 90%+ of the electorate in the hope that enough people will join the path to push us to chaos and mayhem and hope that the survivors eventually enjoy a better country (but it is at least as likely to get worse)

Given that nearly 1 in 31 Americans is now behind bars, on probation or on parole, prison rape is not just a problem of prisoners. Of the more that 2.5 million people incarcerated, more than 95 percent will return to society within the next 20 years, making prison rape, with its lasting, traumatic effects, a national concern.

It makes sobering reading.
I suppose if wardens and officers were held accountable that would make their system grind to a halt?

All the more important to have first time (or three) offenders in separate prisons from career crims here.
I firmly believe we need to be building a 1000 bed prison on each island right now as well as 500 bed youth borstals.
We should be building for future capacity not adhoc catch up as it seems to be right now.

I’m not sure if you’re encouraging me in a positive way, or if you’re telling me to ‘shove off’. But either way, I do try and not hog various threads purely from a spiritual perspective – although of course my faith does flavour my world view, so I guess it comes through.

I took my son to his first rock concert on Saturday. He loved it, has mentioned the guitar solo several times. A great show. One thing that has stayed in my mind a little is the audience participation – the young women flashing when the cameras focussed on them, and those not flashing. Actually, flashing is something of an understatement in some cases. But, … moving on. There were roars of approval for the flashers. There wasn’t much reaction to those who simply waved and carried on enjoying themselves. And there was a roar of approval for the young woman who flipped the bird at the cameraman. That’s the post-modern woman’s right – to join in the fun, or not, in her own way. Nothing new at all in that, really. Just surprising to see that it’s the view of the mosh pit at an AC/DC concert.

I seldom see any positive contributions from the Green Party, and many negative – so while I hope they’re ‘gone’ for the above reasons, I think to ensure these sort of parties can never get in we really need ot get rid of MMP – there has got to be a better way of governing and selecting those who govern our nation than this system.

Can’t think of many reasonable things.
But they sure as hell did a whole lot of ‘unreasonable’ things. And talking of ‘unreasonable’ – Klark could never be reasoned with, and most of the crap they pushed through was despite public opinion and the wishes of the people.

And I would rather have Redbaiter as minister of police, than live in your version of utopia. Because your ‘utopia’ would likely quickly transform into a ‘Somalia’ – a lawless, Islamic terrorist haven – given the way much of the West is going with uncontrolled Muslim immigartion.

On Saturday I talked with my stepdaughter at home about her wedding plans and what benefit I could be.
Yesterday I spent half a day with my mother when she was admitted to ER, and will be caring for her today.
Last night I chatted with a daughter about organising her visit home in a couple of months.
This morning I skyped with my other daughter about plans to visit her soon, and about organising her upcoming wedding,
and admired my six week old granddaughter.
And I fitted in some great time with my wife.

I live in the real world of mutual benefits. I don’t fantasise on blogs about extreme unlikelihood.

Brian the 1/31 figure includes people on probation and parole, whilst the 2.5mill are those in jail.

Anyway, in case anyone else actually reads anything before stating an opinion on it:

Marx argued that capitalism, like previous socioeconomic systems, would inevitably produce internal tensions which would lead to its destruction.

He could be right, it has come close and could yet happen.

Just as capitalism replaced feudalism, he believed socialism would, in its turn, replace capitalism, and lead to a stateless, classless society called pure communism.

But he got this bit badly wrong. Nothing in society or in politics is anywhere near pure, except perhaps for the pure bullshit of a red poster.

It’s just that sometimes Christian type forums, etc can end up as nothing more than ‘preaching to the converted’ – at least here I can also rub shoulders with the ‘great unwashed’ – and of course I do have an interest in the way politics shape much of our society, so hopefully I can influence that, too.

I presume that, at least in the spiritual sense, you are puzzled no more.
It’s certainly good to be ‘clear’ in that regard, if nothing else.

I suggest rather than this kneejerk reaction by the pathetic few a bit more emphasis is put into ensuring those licensed to drive taxis are of good character, honest and personable rather tan just in possession of $500 (which often belongs to WINZ anyway).

Gravedodger, I agree that the taxpayer should not be forced to foot the bill for taxi safety but if the current commynist outfit make me fit devices I neither need nor want they should pay for the fucking things.

I have on any number of occasions expressed the view that the way to repair NZ and turn back the destructive influence of the Progressives is to reform the National Party.

Reform National by repeatedly criticising and abusing them and what they do on a National orientated blog? How many Nationalites have you won over so far? How many reforms in the party have you instigated?

The red plan – sneak into the National tent and shit in the corner, and hope the smell repels everyone there (the “commie traitors”) and attracts the “right” sort of people?

It seems to me like when a far left journo seems something that even looks slightly offensive to his socialist sensibilities, he will go off and write an opinionated, misleading, and often outright false story. The main characteristics of these types of articles is that they are very shallow, opinionated (when they should just be basic reporting) and they draw on comment from mainly left wing groups.

They do have some things I think are worth reading – but check the “most popular” and “editors choice” topics on their websites – are they catering for what most people want, which is junk journalism to go with junk food diets?

Alternatives are TV news, which are as bad as (sometimes ok but far too much trash).

Also – there are many sources of international news over the internet, many international news stories I see or read days later in local media regurgitations.

The grapevine is always there and also with the internet has a much more powerful and immediate way to ravel, but it is often less reliable than all the others.

There probably isn’t much that can be done to influence any improvement, too few people seem to care – the best way to deal with it is keep a healthy skepticism of any “news”.

I guess Pete, if you pulled up a paper from 20 years agon you would find far better reporting. The news would actually be reported as it happened, and the journalist wouldn’t of had a large enough ego to put their own spin on every single story…

Thats a good question mikey. NZ political blogs mainly, or just read the news and be aware not to swallow all the spin you are fed. Make up your own mind on things, dont let some fresh out of journalism school Labour voter do it for you.

But Mikey, keep your news read option on stereo – don’t believe just one channel. Blogs are often good for the other channel as they (KB anyway) is good for pointing out a lot of the nonsense. But blogs are not always accurate either of course (especially the posts).

It’s also worth reading whole articles – they often lead with misleading headlines and opening paragraphs, and have the “balance” and explanations shunted to the last few paragraphs.

Historically, the United Nations was just that – nations (the ‘Allies’) united against the common foes of Germany and Japan, teh term being first used I believe around 1944. It was a convenient and patriotic shorthand to describe all those nations the comprised the WW2 allies.

Within the top echelons of the ‘United nations’ idealistic men, having been disappointed by the uselessness of the pre-WW2 ‘League of Nations’ decided that this wartime body was the ideal vehicle to use to eliminate any future wars, hunger, poverty, economic disaster (the Great Depression was of course very recent), diseases, refugees and, ultimately, all the planet’s ills. They were of course fighting a war to remove all these things. With the end of WW 2 it was a very short step for the wartime ‘United’ nations’ against the axis, to become the ‘United Nations’ to ‘Save Humanity ‘ and ensure that WW2 in all its terribleness would never be repeated.

Unfortunately the ‘idealists’ and those who had experienced the horrors of WW2 and the Great Depression were up against basic human nature, self-interest and greed, to say nothing of international politics, and the establishment of the Soviet Empire, the decline of the British Empire (and the independence of most of that grouping’s former colonies), together with the (unintentional) emergence of the USA as a world power (because of the decline of Britain) resulted in a a major shift in political demographics, not helped by the continuing wars, etc, etc. Mankind had not actually changed – just become more technologically sophisticated in killing his fellow humans. A significant, and unforeseen emergence, was that of the ‘non-aligned’ bloc during the early 1960’s – a nation-group (led by India) that was largely sympathetic towards Soviet and Chinese policies, and seemingly dedicated in principle to blocking everything that the Western powers attempted to do – irrespective of how good these intentions and results might have been.

It was at this point (especially during the late 1960’s and onwards) that the UN was effectively hijacked, as the ‘non-aligned’ states discovered that they had more than just political obstructionism in common. The majority also had a common religion – Islam. This discovery and subsequent ‘solidarity’ in the name of Islam, essentially destroyed the original ‘United’ concept of the UN and has created the entity we have today, namely an anti-Western civilisation, anti American, anti- Israeli/Jewish organisation that wields a considerable amount of power and has no problem in meddling in national affairs.

However, to really complicate matters, the originally a-political UN had also become radically politicised and infiltrated by those of a Socialist persuasion (including our late unmourned DL), these dedicated Marxists having established themselves in key positions and having as their ultimate goal the creation of a single (one world) world government,.

As both Islam and the Socialists are determined to achieve their own versions of world-domination/subjugation (and the total elimination of everything that we in the west hold dear, along with Israel), scene is being set for a confrontation between these two ideologies at some not-to distant future (probably in our lifetimes).

We live in ‘interesting times’ and as a Christian it is going to be fascinating to watch the predictions made in Daniel and Revelation being played -out.

But, to return to your question (in precis): WW2, a ‘united front’ against the axis states, then against the ‘ills of the world’ (‘Never again etc, etc’. .) Great ideas that were destroyed by the ‘human condition’

so 20 yrs for $200K pa and what % of population are they? age 45-50+?

How many surgeons do we have?
Oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, physicians, not allowing for the super specialisations as medical oncology and radiation, cat scan, neuro surgeons, plastics, paed surgery, renal etc etc etc.

How many in wtn, North island, nz?
They can go to OZ for mostly 30% more and for some 40-50% more.
But they don’t, they put up with wankers at their hospitals playing political and financial games and MOE who change seats as fast as govts and Ministers who ahave been second rate.

want to find out the goss, speak to the guy who runs the senior doctors union and listen to the stories of incompetance and political bullshit.
Apparently Tony Ryall is listening to people but the job is massive.

The Socialists ran out of steam last century. Unless you rate GW Bush as a Socialist taking on Islam in Iraq and Afghanistan. The Conservatives seem to be more anti Islam anyway.

As I read what appears to be disparate items from different sources (not just media) from across the world I marvel and the complexity and the purpose going on.
Then I read you and others here and interact with others elsewhere in society and internet world and want to either cry or rage at your blindness/scripting.
Yes it is interesting and whilst I don’t want anyone to fall foul of God on the last day, I know that what seems from my bible to be the the majority who will from their choice to reject Him, no matter their excuse or explanation.
No it’s facinating, really.
I’m reading a biography of Derek Prince a Godly man who is gone now but what a story of the Love of God for all of us in the world.

I know what you are getting at Mike, I just don’t think that way. I make decisions based on what I see as best for today, and for my and my family’s future up until my last day.

I had a discussion about “last days” with my mother today – she had quite a scare in the weekend and thought her’s might be closer than she liked. She will keep living out her bonus years the best she can. Making decisions on today’s knowledge and situation, not worrying too much about an unknown. I, and my mother, feel very comfortable doing it like this.

The Original countries in the UN pact: USA,UK,USSR,China,Australia,Belgium,Canada,Costa Rica ,Cuba,Czechoslovakia,Dominican Rep,El Salvador,Greece,Guatemala,Haiti, Honduras, India,Luxembourg,Netherlands,New Zealand,Nicaragua,Norway,Panama,Poland,South Africa,Yugoslavia.

Of course the UN was formally established later in 1945.The USSR was always a problem case as it never really subscribed to the principles of the pact or charter.INdeeed very few members do other than the democracies that fund it and keep it going,and even that is debatable..

It finishes off each point with what it terms the Monckton “verbal bombs.” These “bombs” range from outright lies to the totally unproven – very convenient for a skilled practitioner of the black art of propaganda, especially the “bold assertion.” For example, how convenient to allege that he was responsible for the IPCC changing a statistic yet, surprisingly, provides no evidence for this allegation. In the absence of such evidence, this must be regarded as an outright lie.

One of the (hotly contested) allegations is that banning DDT has resulted in millions of malaria deaths. What he doesn’t mention is that the rich West could provide the drugs necessary to eliminate malaria but, protecting the profits of the drug companies, refuses to do so. So NGOs are reduced to providing mosquito nets – and thank goodness they do!

His claim to be included in the IPCC’s Nobel award is that of a pure fantasist, no less.

Mike, pray tell, what on earth is a “moderate atheist”? Atheism is pretty absolute. Is the Archbishop confusing atheism with the wimp-out agnosticism?

Also, no religious faith is necessary for a moral framework, unless one is so limp-wristed that one needs to get one’s framework from a book of instructions.

The simple fact is that evolution, parental influence and local environment largely define our moral codes.

Should people do good because it is the right thing to do, or should they do good to avoid the future wrath of a vengeful God?

many countries of the world the Christian faith is the tie that binds communities, gives them a moral framework, induces hope, inspires them to great acts of charity, and exhorts them to love their neighbour by doing all manner of good deeds.

They don’t do this because of a wrathful God at the end of time, but by their ongoing loving relationship with their God and their love for their fellow humans, who they acknowledge through their actions are loved by God as much as he does them.
It is what has made Western civilisation the contributor is has been to the world, until the rise of godless secularism and it’s protagonists.

I would have said what has made Western Civilisation since the Renaissance is the banishment of Christianity to smaller and smaller aspects of our lives. We separated Church from State and diminished the power of spiritual authorities. We removed God from the scientific world.

It was non-Christian Greeks who gave us much of our understanding of maths, medicine and cosmology. Eratosthenes calculated the circumference of the earth 2 centuries before Jesus was born. Non-Christian Arabs gave us algebra and maths and improved medicine. Non-Christian Chinese gave us paper and the compass.

Christianity gave us the inquisition and murdered people for heresy and witchcraft.
