Landowners’ side – they want continuing compensation.

Transpower side – they have been compensated, and this has even more force when the land in question changed hands since the line was built.

Both sides are effectively in the PR business and the matter will have to be resolved at a political level. For example if Transpower’s emergency entry powers are to be strengthened the required legislation very much becomes a political matter. No amount of privatisation would resolve the problem unless Transpower buys upall land under pylons together with associated access.

I suspect that Transpower has been far more hard-nosed in its continuing relationships with land owners than the old NZED. One aspect here was that the old NZED used to have 2 – 6 linemen attached to most of its substations and they attended to patrols and routine line maintenance and would have known the landowners on a first name basis.

The only negative about yesterday, Australia Day, is the size of my hangover.
Jazz on the water in Sydney harbour and then the obligatory fireworks.
Sydney iss very special that way. if there is a “y” in the day of the week, they will have a fireworks display.
It is great that being proud of your country is cool for young and old here.

It’s a bit ironic – while we have our problems our race relations are surely way ahead of Australia but have a national day that divides more then unites. Over the Tasman the aborigines have been treated much worse, are still widely put down in various ways, yet the Aussies conjure up a grand national day.

And can you imagine a Christian wearing a cross around their neck in most Muslim countries – they’d be a brave/foolish individual.

Good on the French – I hope it passes into law.
This is something we in New Zealand will no doubt have to confront at some point in the near future.

So how about Kiwi Day? It wouldn’t be easy to create a new public holiday, but it would be simple to utilise Queens Birthday weekend. Winter is a better time for fireworks, the kids don’t have to wait up until ten to see them then.

So how about making the Sunday before Queens Birthday Kiwi Day, just start calling it that and organising parties and celebrate being kiwi?

For those that like the Queen it is symbolically side by side with her day, and for those that don’t can have a good reason for the weekend.

Glad to see that the PM has finally seen sense and is allowing the SAS to come and go as necessary without public notice – it’s the way things have got to be for these guys – it’s the way they operate to fulfill the roles their (our) political leaders have given them (yes, even DL). Hopefully they will now be allowed to get on with their job, quietly and without fuss, nutcase quasi-peacenik, socialist Kiwi-MSM notwithstanding.

I notice too that, inevitably, the ‘renowned’ Mr. Mallard has indulged in his usual vituperative-best in respect of the re-allocation of the education portfolio; sadly it came as no surprise (his ‘delightful’ and ‘reasonable’ reputation has gone well- ahead of him – unfortunately), while the NZEI is demanding more ‘co-operation’ from their Minister. ‘Co-operation’ being of course a veiled threat that if she doesn’t they will do something nasty such as striking. Makes you wonder what they are afraid of doesn’t it?

Did someone dare to mention ‘National standards’ and ‘Uniformity’? Funny, I thought that, for teachers, (especailly Primary-school teachers) it was all about the kids (at least that what they tell us) – evidently I’ve been very, very, wrong.

It would appear that the big and brave (and very inebriated), Mr. Brooke physically picked-up the young lady’s 17 year-old boyfriend and literally threw him aside before returning to ‘the job in hand’ (unfortunate pun I’m sorry) with the young girl.

Given that Mr. Brooke appears to believe that he is ‘untouchable’ because he is ‘the Famous Mr Brooke – a sportsman of renown’ and a sports ‘personality’ (whatever THAT may mean), and that he has apparently subsequently refused to apologise to those involved, (evidently there was quite an audience to his actions), the $200,000 would seem to be an attempt to make him realise the folly of his ways – and to help no doubt with the repair of the young man’s injuries.

I’m sufficiently old-fashioned enough to believe that the punishment should fit the crime. It would appear that:

1. Mr Brooke is evidently not short of money.

2. Mr Brooke has also caused damage (emotionally and probably physically) to at least one other individual.

3. Mr. Brooke evidently believes himself to be above the plane of mere mortals who are not sports people.

Given these facts, especially 1 and 2, it is only reasonable to expect some sort of restitution, an action which will hopefully serve to remind the ‘gentleman’ (a term I use very advisedly) that he is NOT above the law and that even the ‘rich and famous’ can be made accountable for their actions.

I would suspect that the majority of Kiwi’s would share similar views, and also expect a similar consequence.

Brian Smaller – 7th circuit prison rules seem lax compared with NZ, D&D or not. By and large computers are a no-no in NZ prisons – end of story. The only exceptions seem to be prisoners preparing appeals or doing educational courses – but no internet access. A High Court Judge made a very favourable recommendation that a prisoner should have access to a computer plus his financial data to help prepare for a case / appeal, but could not actually order this nor hold out too much hope that Corrections would comply.

I see that DOC are not going to prosecute that lovely decent Mouldy lady whom, whilst paddling in her Waka along with a whole pile of other Mouldy’s, by her own admission struck and injured “Moko” the dolphin in Omio, Eastern Bay of Plenty a couple of weeks ago.

Why, because according to DOC’s Conservator for BOP, their investigation team found no evidence of any wrong doing. WHAT! The bloody dolphin was struck on the fin by the self confessed perpetrator. TV footage last week of the dolphin in question in the Whakatane River clearly showed the extent of the injuries to the dolphin.

And yet no charges, because of lack of evidence. Bollocks! The lady confessed publicly to attacking and injuring the dolphin.

Further, DOC are not even going to issue a warning because of cultural issues. Fuck Me.

Silly me, I thought DOC were supposed to uphold and administer the Protection and Cruelty to Mammals and Wildlife Act. When are these sorry bastards going to start doing that?

Obviously this Act only applies to White MOFO’s and not the great Mouldy conservators of wildlife in this country.

Yes great humanitarians are the Mouldy who want to be treated as equals. These same people who had one of their lot in court in Pukekohe this week for ripping the head of a kitten in front of his so called family, another in court in Gisborne this week for feeding five kittens to his mongrel dog and yet another four of this lot in court in New Plymouth for an alledged murder of a white MOFO.

Yep, and this lot want to be treated as equals.

I see the PM is getting nervous about the (non) performance of “Chopper” Tolley, dumping her as minister in charge of the tertiary sector.

She made a comment yesterday, according to radio reports, “that the debate on National Standards is over.”

Funny that, I am unaware of there being any debate she was involved in. It was more like: this is what we are doing. The response: Oh no we’re not!
