I think Whale Oil’s latest publicity stint has sent jitters throughout blogosphere. The law masters do not like people rubbing salt into there dysfunctional and totally unfair beloved corrupt justice system. Power to him, as the underdog having a go at correcting double standard justice.

As for Slater, I half support him and half don’t. I support him in the fact that the courts are retarded in releasing any information allowing for speculation on half a dozen people that are innocent, however its unfair if this guy is innocent, even if he is a left wing fool.

As the police and courts continue to allow more petty crime to happen, people like this are going to become more regular. And to be honest, they should be supported in full, only then will the police and courts take notice of how pathetic our justice and policing system is on more non-violent crime.

in all my years of work, since Jan 74, I have dealt with dozens, maybe hundreds of people in various levels of management. many where useless BUT they had somehow made it to management level. Now, why am I saying this?
I have noted over the years that many people who get into higher level positions get so caught up in their own impotency (opps sorry, importance) that they will not listen to reason and a reason is that they fell they are being challenged by lesser people.
Some of you may remember a telly program .. a couple of versions .. The Rise and Fall (and Fall and Rise) of Reginald Perrin. Funny as a fart BUT I am getting there. His boss, CJ, had a saying .. “I didn’t get to where I am today by ………..”. I just Googled Reggie and one was “I didnt get to where I am today by telling the truth”.
Anyway .. this is why Cameron is in trouble. Judges didn’t get to where they are today by allowing bloggers challenging their decisions. It sounds like some high profile lawyers think the same.

CharlieBrown .. I heard on the radio (its on again as I write) that a woman in England is in the shit because she was in her kitchen, (2 yo upstairs in bed and partner away) when she saw two “youths” in her back yard. She told them to go away but they actually moved towards her, not away. So, she got a knife from the drawer, opened the window and waved it at them .. it seems they moved on. Now, who is in trouble, the trespassers or the vulnerable woman .. that’s right, she is.
It seems she could be charged with brandishing a weapon .. oh dear lord.

Our legal system get to where it is today by allowing any peerson who thinks they are backed by a group that thinks it knows best to re-write the laws.

Whale is all over the place on this, more and more.

He says he didn’t do it for the publicity but applauds his site hits.

He said he he would not defy suppression laws where young victims of sexual abuse could be identified – now he says he had been reviewing his position and decided to take a harder line – he had received emails from victims of sexual abuse who thought an offender should be named.

He is doing it because of the level of support he been getting on his blog. He ignores the level of criticism and opposition elsewhere?

He criticises Cromesky because he has defended scum – what lawyer has he found to help him (who hasn’t represented scum)?

He has some reasonable points, but he is taking it too far. A few blog posts and emails are not going to amount to a great defence.

Incidentally I remember a family from this tribe getting evicted from a state house and living on the beach at
Taipa for months and months. Presumably they thought it was their “Treaty right” to wash, eat, defecate etc on the beach 24/7. I wonder if they got a fine for camping in a public place… haha. Fat chance

The remark can be traced back to http://heresycorner.blogspot.com/2010/01/however-cold-it-gets-this-is-officially.html originally, where the last comment appears to be from the Met office stating that “We do not believe ‘Tony’ is an employee. This comment is not an official statement from the Met Office and does not reflect the views or policies of the Met Office.”

Interestingly the Met Office have recently rubbished the extravagant claims that sea level would rise by 2 metres by 2100.

Reg I was picking about three years before the Goreites would be telling us that they were wrong but they were right (fake but accurate) and we’re actually heading into a manmade ice age and we still need the same cabon trading scheme as before but to prevent us all being eaten by polar bears.

We’re now into the 6th cycle of global warming or ice age hysteria since 1900 anyway so whats number 7 if Gore can keep making millions of the stupidity of the credulous.

I see telecom are getting another bollocking and fines for obfuscation of facts between 1999 and 2006.

I recall Theresa Gattungs speech where she proudly announced the best way to lead a telco is to obfuscate the facts and to basically mislead customers.

Now , the flotilla of chickens are coming home to roost.

It’s unfortunate her bonus’s cannot be docked retrospectively for appalling management.

She must have been one of the worst CEO’s ever. Sure, she made great profits but she ran a monopoly- my cat could have done better. Not only did her management decisions result in telecom losing their monopoly, she screwed up the only competitive company they owned -that is, AAPT in Australia. THat proves she was no good in a competitive marketplace.

It does annoys me (just a little though) that she was so highly paid while making such poor decisions.

Manolo, going to the jvlle wharehouse today here in Wgtn when i passed a maori who had spread his jacket over the footpath and was asking people for money(begging) i was REALLY tempted to tell him to get off his fat arse and look for work(begging) in New Zealand really pisses me of.
I think he scared ladies as they gave him a wide berth

JoeAverage, have you ever been to Auckland?

I live there now (but I vehemently deny being an Aucklander) and walk to work down Queen Street. On my way (even at 7:30am) I pass about 20 or so homeless people, slumped on the footpath. They all stink and with the weather heating up it’s getting worse. They all have poorly written cardboard begging signs.

I’ve got today off, and my girlfriend just came back from Victoria Park New World. There was a well-known fat homeless man who has a trolley full of his crap, wheeling it through the supermarket and stealing/eating/handling fruit. The security guards did nothing.

Often nearby the Imax theatre, there’s glue huffers spitting and breaking stuff on the street. The police just drive by. It’s enough to make us want to leave here.

That was the most depressing reading this year – if this is true and becomes known more public-ally the whole sewage works will go through the fan and the financial meltdown will seem tame. Thank god we live in a country that will always be able to feed itself and not be invaded by neighbours – not surprised that NZ media have not reported this more from their lack of ability than responsibility to avoid panic, I hope our leaders are ware and have contingency plans in place.

@ tristanb if you look at the Queen St beggars you will see the is a group of 3-4 who all have the same sign. The only people I have seen give them money are Chinese ladies. I’ve always been tempted to ask them not to as beggars only exist where people give.

THE Rudd Government is handing more than $70 million to schools run by the Exclusive Brethren, a religious sect Kevin Rudd described as an “extremist cult” that breaks up families.

The sect’s schools have secured more than $8.4m under the Government’s school building stimulus package and they will share in $62m in recurrent taxpayer funding.

Documents show a Brethren-run school at Swan Hill in northern Victoria was granted $1.2m for a library and $800,000 for a hall when its most recent annual report shows it had just 16 pupils and already had a library.

Grants data released by the commonwealth shows that Brethren schools in every state received funding under the $12.4 billion schools stimulus package, The Australian reports.

Despite the Brethren’s past disdain for computers, figures show its schools have received more than 300 under the commonwealth computers-in-school initiative.

Brethren schools have also secured grants under the Schools Pride program. All up, the 2400 children in Brethren schools will each receive the equivalent of $26,127 in recurrent funding and $11,200 in stimulus funding.

Australian Education Union federal president Angelo Gavrielatos said these sums were outrageous and the funding system had to be urgently replaced.

“How can the Government justify handing tens of millions of dollars to an organisation it believes is a cult while public schools which educate the vast majority of our children are struggling for funds?” Mr Gavrielatos said.

“The Government has said it will review schools funding this year. That review needs to be begin as a matter of urgency to allow for a proper public debate on where school funding should be directed and for what purpose.”

The Brethren is a fundamentalist Christian sect that lives by the doctrine of separation from mainstream society.

Brethren schools must teach the normal curriculum, although reports say some novels are banned and chapters on sex and reproduction are excised from science textbooks.

Brethren members are taught to shun broader society. They do not use TV, radios and do not watch movies or eat in restaurants. They do not vote, are opposed to unions and other forms of association, except their own church.

The Brethren has been accused by former members, and the Prime Minister in his 2007 comments, of denying those who leave access to their children, a claim the organisation denies.

Doug Burgess, the head of the Brethren’s Victorian schools, said its schools were growing rapidly and the funding reflected that.

He defended the sect’s right to school funding, saying the children would otherwise be enrolled in state schools at full taxpayers’ expense.

End of road for Aussie Falcon? Oh dear how sad.

THE all-Australian Ford Falcon could soon be a thing of the past, the world president of the American car-making giant has warned.

The Falcon marks 50 years on Australian roads this year, but speaking at the Detroit motor show, Ford boss Alan Mulally said only one large car platform would be built for all world markets under the company’s One Ford program.

“The best thing for Ford is to bring our scale and volume (to the market),” Mr Mulally told Fairfax newspapers.

“(Car-makers) who make one vehicle, a different vehicle for one country, I think those days are gone, because you can’t compete with the global companies and Ford’s going to be a powerhouse globally.”

The likely successor for an Australian designed and engineered Falcon is a car based on the American Ford Taurus, which unlike the Falcon is a front-wheel drive car.

The Taurus was imported to Australia in the late 1990s with little success.

Mr Mulally would not say if Ford Australia would play a leading role in developing the large car platform, or whether a local version of the global car would be built in Australia.

Ford Australia president Marin Burela told Fairfax he hoped Australian engineering talent would be used for the project.

A decision on whether the world car would be front- or rear-wheel-drive was at least a year away, he said.

“The all-new Falcon doesn’t have to come into play until the end of 2014, early 2015, and we don’t have to make a decision until 2011 on what that vehicle will be, in terms of styling, technologies ” he said.

Mr Mulally said Ford Australia may help to develop the rear-wheel-drive Mustang platform.

The Ford Falcon was introduced to Australia in 1960.

The car has been the mainstay of Ford’s Australian manufacturing operations.

Ford Australia employs about 4700 people at its Victorian plants, 2300 of whom were factory floor workers and 2400 in areas such as engineering, administration, marketing and product design.

Panels and engines for the Falcon and its Territory wagon variant are produced at Geelong, with assembly housed at Campbellfield, in Melbourne’s north.

Falcon was the fifth-highest selling car in Australia in 2009, with 31,023 sales compared with 44,387 sales for the top-selling Holden Commodore.

Flagging sales because of higher fuel prices have hurt the Falcon and the Australian large car sector in recent years.

Re Ms Gattung’s explanation of Telecom’s competitive policy of price obfuscation. Shortly before Ms Gattung made that speech, Harvard Business Review published an article explaining how other telecoms providers (including, I think, Telstra) pursued just that policy. If it was news to anyone when Ms Gattung mentioned it, that was perhaps because they were remarkably ill-informed. Not suggesting that everyone reads the HBR, of course, but I wonder why a competent business reporter or commentator would not be familar with it.
