Meat & Wool NZ
Homepaddock blogs:
Farmers voted yes and no in Meat & Wool’s referendum on levies.
They voted for the continuation of levies on sheepmeat and beef but against the continuation of a wool or goatmeat levy.
I actually had a brief professional involvement with Meat & Wool a couple of years ago, around the levies issue. Back then they had some very good staff who were very focused on consultation with levypayers to try and ensure a good referendum outcome.
I’m not sure what happened, but suddenly there was some sort of big upheaval and all the staff in that area were no longer there. I’m not sure if those staff changes have any relevance to the outcome of the referendum, but I do recall there were many initiatives being talked about to improve consultation with levy payers. It just goes to show you can not be complacent.
