Guilty as charged. I thought incest and homosexuality in the same comment would already be pushing ‘sensitive’ boundaries.
The other examples you mentioned were, sadly, already in my thoughts while typing.
We’re already there, aren’t we, regarding the lack of a moral framework; and so the results shouldn’t really surprise us.
I must admit I foresaw all that has happenned to date from the 1986 Homosexual Law Reform; but just not happening as quickly as it has.
Now that the floodgates have been opened there is really nothing, or very little, to prevent this juggernaut from continuing to gain momentum. Although I do seem to recall some ‘ancient text’ mentioning a similar likely outcome. Can’t remember what it’s called though; but I’m sure it will come to me.

Sky prosecuted after [sub-sub contractor] installer falls off roof

Sky Television is being prosecuted by the Department of Labour after an aerial installer fell from a roof, suffering serious head injuries. Richard Twist was an accredited installer of Sky TV aerials working for Sky contractor City Aerials Limited

Sad for this contractor chap. So he contracted to a firm the supplied contract intsallation services to Sky TV… and Sky TV is being done under OSH?!??

Hell, let’s not stop the prosecution party.

Let’s prosecute the home owner for having a roof dangerously high, the guy next door for not advising the contractor about safe neighbourly roof usage and kiwiblog for not posting public safety notices online.

This reminds me of a bunch of people watching the V8 Supercars up in Hamilton on the roof of their house. Hamilton City Council was going to prosecute for ‘overloading’ the roof, despite nothing actually happening. I think it was overturned in the end due to public pressure on the council.

And that rafting company in Queenstown where a woman died while rafting. Even when people take reasonable measures to reduce risk, there is no way to eliminate it entirely.

It does seem strange, in the example you cite above, that it is Sky TV, and not either the installer or the contracting company, that is being held to account. Weird.

Nearly 100 university staff have been made redundant this year as funding per student drops for the first time in six years.
Union leaders and vice-chancellors say universities have reached a tipping point where further restructuring and cost-cutting will significantly impact on the quality of education

Yes, yes but while we’ve previously spent more on tertiary education our peer reviewed, global rankings have fallen. We have three Uni’s in the top 200 – Auckland at 65th, Otago at 114th and Canterbury at 186th.

In contrast, Australia has 6 on the top 50. I’d suggest they’re 8 times better than we are!

Perhaps it’s not how much is spent. Perhaps it’s the attitude of the learners and the content of the course that’s important.

After all, how many social policy analysts does the world really want from us?

Kris K, If that segment had been shown while the previous government were in power I would have expected to have seen a law introduced this morning decriminalizing incest. This current lot however seem to still be developing their complete contempt for the people so I don’t expect to see their bill to decriminalize it until next week.

It is astonishingly simple, amazingly so, so simple even that you lot must be intentionally ignoring it, so please reply, preferably telling me that I am wrong if you think that, if not, just as a place holder to show every one that someone has suggested it.

INFORMED CONSENT.

Simple as that, 2 (or more) consenting adults, Incest or homosexuality, I don’t care. Not my cup of tea, not yours, but also not my place to go finger waving.

As soon as you go including dead bodies, kids, farm animals, there cannot be consent. I would have thought this distinction was glaringly obvious, why have you not considered it before?

what is the end game anyway? 7% of nutjobs voted to keep the current law. 7% of the population that will never vote national. Key has a clear mandate to change the law.

I’d say Key should have shown some leadership on at least one of the two issues over the weekend (either smacking referenda or Maori seats). Personally I am most upset about Rodney Hide needing to put hands on Key over the Maori seats than the smacking referenda to be fair. I can see two scenarios:

First one is Key lost the plot, became “Neville Key” like Big Bruv is always calling him. Its easy to look like the dealmaker when you are essentially caving into every major demand – as easy as negotiating a deal to buy a trainset for 3X its actual worth. If Key was playing straight he should have pointed out to the Maori Party that he has compromised on the Maori Flag, letting them control the Maori part of the budget, and not introducing legislation to dissolve the parliament’s Maori seats. Its time for them to compromise a bit by “agreeing to disagree” over the Auckland Maori seats. By not doing so he looks a bit weak, and not keeping with his principles.

Second one is Key didn’t want Maori seats but wanted to keep his moderate position, so he either asked or manipulated Hide into “forcing” him to take the right wing approch. Taking some embarassment from Tau and the ‘tards mouthing off diverts suspicion. He risks losing some voters to ACT, but thats actually preferable for the “right wing agenda”.

Conclusion: Key’s either a very smart manipulator; or a dipstick. I’ll reserve judgement to see how the next major crisis pans out.

anyway at some oint key needs to trn right.. to save the freakin country. we cant pay for labours vision forever. we will go broke. it better happen next term or ill be pissed!

Its possible it will happen before then. Could happen as soon as Australia reports on its tax review. English has signalled that Nats would be forced to make adjustments to remain competitive with Australia, so look for stuff to happen from December onward.

Perhaps it’s not how much is spent. Perhaps it’s the attitude of the learners and the content of the course that’s important.

Many courses today award ‘dregrees’ in what previously would have been no more than diploma qualifications. For example, what used to be a Nursing Diploma is now a Nursing Degree, without any real change to the course material. I think universities essentially absorbing what were the polytechs, and therefore upgrading what were diplomas to degrees, has actually resulted in the devaluing of what were originally degree courses. And therefore, overall standards have dropped.

Fair enough. So how loging before the definition of INFORMED is changed, and how long before CONSENT becomes absence of active rejection? Part of creeping standards of acceptability is a gradual change to the definition of terms, moving the goal posts if you will.

I hope the public will learn a lesson from the hikoi for the Maori seats when National fold and allow them the seats.
(That’s a prediction)

the govt will in no way fold on the anti smacking laws.

If hikoi’s can work for Maori they can work for everyone.

These Maori Akld seats are really going to show the govts favouritism.

Let’s not forget the people over powered the EFB.

none really…an Indian company is the front runner to take over Shell..nothin will change..the brand will stay..Mobil sellin
its downstream business eg petrol stations , refinery share , but will still have a presense in NZ with exploration.

NZ-born girl in world sailing first

Child protection officers in Holland have threatened to put a 13-year-old New Zealand girl into care because she is planning a record-breaking solo sailing trip around the world.

Laura Dekker – who was born on a yacht off the New Zealand coast – spent Monday pleading with judges and Dutch education and child protection officials, the Telegraph newspaper reported in London.

The voyage, which has the approval of her parents, would take the teenager through some of the world’s most dangerous waters.

Dekker wants to take her sailing boat, named Guppy, on the voyage, beginning on September 1, when she will be 14, to become the youngest person ever to sail around the world solo.

On Monday, Dutch child protection agents urged a court to strip Dekker’s parents of parental rights and have her declared a ward of the court to stop the girl from setting sail.

“It means that her parents will temporarily lose the right to make any decisions concerning their child,” court spokesman Paul van Daalen told AFP. Laura and her father Dick Dekker were present for the hearing behind closed doors, he said.

Local authorities deem it inappropriate that a girl of her age can undertake risks at sea and continue her education through emails and occasional phone calls.

The slender, blonde girl lives with her father on a yacht in the central Netherlands, and hopes to complete her voyage in two years and continue her schooling through internet correspondence.

Liberal Holland … where just about anything and everything goes, and they’re worried about her schooling?!?

Probably quite a long time, it is ridiculous to argue that something is a bad idea because it might fail in the future.

That’s what most people here seem to think already!

That is to be dealt with at the time. It is quite clear in my argument that I mean the current meaning of those words, if they are to change, my argument no longer stands, and would require amendment. I also don’t accept the whole “we know now what is best for the future”, and in addition running such an argument your going to have to say why we shouldn’t wind back the clock even further, going back to slavery, no sex outside of marrige, no more votes for women.

How about we ban heterosexual sex, it is certainly a slippery slope to homosexual sex from there.

Its called Fabian Socialism and has been running the western world for many decades.

Devo had a theory called ‘de-evolution’

Morality is the NWO tool to suppress the masses. But not cultural morality that defines a sovereign nation.

US morality to make everyone conform to their image.

That’s why Iraq was complaining the Americans were never happy with their form of ‘democracy’

It’s American or nothing.

And their ideals are gradually becoming Chinese.

Liarbour couldn’t move fast enough in that direction.

Still, I am not aware if communist countries have anti smacking laws. Seems to be a European phenomenon.

Strangely, even America doesn’t have it.

Too bent on taking gun control off the masses.

Anyway, try getting a poli to utter the word sovereignty. They’ll accuse you of blasphemy.

So we have an Anti Smacking law yet our most vulnerable continue to die as a result of horrific vicious attacks committed against them by those who are supposed to keep them safe!

This is just one example of how we in NZ treat our most vulnerable – what does that tell us about our society!!
