And in similar news,

I notice there is a new-look national.org.nz, that has every current media release on what our elected representatives are doing. It has also changed from the campaign08 light blue scheme, back to a more traditional National dark blue. (I assume Kiwiblog will again be following suit??)

Can anyone clarify whether the funding of all this National re-branding is different than that for these silly Phil Goff pamphlets, or much the same as them?

Secondly as far as I know national.org.nz is paid for by the National Party, and not out of the parliamentary budget. This is unlike labour.org.nz which is taxpayer funded – note the crest on it. So your suggestion is unfounded]

National used to be dark blue. Kiwiblog used to be WordPress standard dark blue. A lie?

National seriously broke with tradition and went light blue for their Election08 campaigning. Kiwiblog also is now light blue. A lie? Compare Kiwiblog to any other weblog that is still using the wordpress standard dark blue scheme to confirm.

Some stage in 2006 Inspire designed a custom template and banner for me. It was also blue. I have no idea if it was a slightly different blue to before, but the change was around two years before the 2008 campaign. ]

A man who despite being in the public eye for 25 years still manages to keep everything about him so secret. He is basically a cardboard cut-out. We know nothing about his family, his beliefs, (they have wobbled about over the years) – from PYM to Rogernome to mush. What are his values?? Is he a christian – probably not. What is his background – nothing. Grannie had it hard – yup most did. We know he does not live in his electorate – why?? John Key and Helen Clark are an open book compared with this person. So secret – why??

What about the return postage? Paid for by the tax payer also it seems. You’d think he could have just put a response form up on his tax payer funded website, but no, he decides to waste more money. I think every non-labour supporter should email Phil once a day for the next couple of weeks as a sign of protest, overload his inbox.

Why are you all picking on ratbiter?

He raises a very pertinent and important point. What did National spend its Parliamentary Services money on?

There are all sorts of rumours, Iwi Kiwi billboards and Crosby Textor to name a few. If these rumours are not correct then DPF should say so.

Both parties had the same sort of fund. National spent it’s fund I presume. If not perhaps it could confirm that the money is still part of the consolidated fund.

Otherwise I think that ratbiter deserves an apology.

[DPF: Now you are lying. Everyone knows the Iwi/Kiwi billboards were not funded by the taxpayer. If they had been, the parliamentary crest would have been on them]

I have to be completely honest – when I visited kiwiblog this morning, I assumed this was a joke somebody had done, continuing the whole “we know nothing about phil goff” thing. When the penny dropped that it was real, let’s just say I was a wee bit shocked.

Not so much that it’s funded by taxpayers … getting rather used to politicians using taxpayer money for their own promotional material (One Labour MP here in the UK claimed expenses for a DVD of him linedancing with some old people) – it’s more that I can’t believe what sort of a copywriter would put such malarkey on the front of it.

1. Hard Work – mmkay. That ones fine. I appreciate a politician who believes in hard work. One who understands what the common people go through each day with their jobs.
2. Inspiration – this is where I started to twitch. What does that mean? It’s the sort of thing you name a deodorant. On a political pamphlet, it just means absolutely zero.
3. Belief in New Zealand – ohhh, okay, I get it. The pamphlet is saying that these three things are what make Phil Goff a great leader – he’s hardworking, he’s inspired, and he believes in New Zealand!

Only thing is … I believe in New Zealand. I also believe in Al Qaeda, Nazi Germany and Communist Russia – they all exist/have existed!

Can I be prime minister now?

It was proven that your lot was not only content to use public money to fund their illegal campaigns, but they even stole the money.
Then they tried to make it go away by changing the law. Then they tried to steal an election by bringing in the EFA. Problem was NZ said to Helen, Mickey and that gutless thug Mallard that not only are you a bunch of crims, but we want you gone. Now even Goff agrees that the EFA was a crock, the greens say that Anette Kings forced medication is a crock as well.

So all in all a fairly nasty little bunch was given their marching orders after stealing and rorting. And then you have the stupidity to “demand answers”? Are you truly that thick? You are either a National party member who is here doing a fantastic parody of the typical, imbecilic, cloth capped lefty or you have just proved every stereo type the right ever invented to depict the left.

I happen to think Goff is quite an ok guy, cold, serious – not much humour. He is a very experienced Minister and quite competent. I cannot recall any major stuff-up except the use of the private briefing note against Don Brash. Looked him up on Wikipedia he has a wife (Mary) 3 children, lives at Clevedon, got a first class honours degree, comes probably from a working class background, that that is not clear. He of course is very middle class like all his Labour colleagues.

Goff has been paying a PR company to groom him for the role of Prime Minister since the early 2000’s. The reason why he doesn’t seem to have a personality is because his PR company haven’t decided what it should be yet. When they do, we will all know about it as he will seem to rise from the ashes. He is the perfect PR client – a blank canvas, malleable, safe and with an ego that can be frighteningly boundless when exposed. However, their work won’t lead to anything because he’s just a bit too ‘average’ to fill big boots – even if they’re made for him.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Phil Goff will not be Prime Minister. He has done his polling and they have told him he still has major branding issues – hence this piss poor effort. Labour had to charge the taxpayers for it as they spent all their money on Mount Albert. Once again it shows the lack or regard Labour has for “other peoples money”.

Goff has 2 years left to prove himself. He won’t win the next election so he is as good as done for.
