Freaky accident

The Dom Post reports:

The twin trailer articulated truck was transporting goods to New Plymouth when it drove over a mattress left lying on State Highway 3, north of Wanganui, about 2am today.

Sergeant Bruce Mackay said the driver was unable to safely swerve out of the way of the mattress and part of it was caught up under the truck’s cab, with friction from the drive shaft setting it alight.

“It was a freak accident. The driver kept going for a few kilometres and noticed sparks. When he got out there were already flames and within a few minutes the whole truck went up in smoke,” he said.
