Now this is more like it. As always the Business Roundtable and the corporate sector are willing to fight for the little guy and stand up to the oppressive forces of big government.

It’s really great to see a forum where ordinary Kiwis can go and say what they want without having to cope with the oppressive tide of bullshit generated by the socialist-environmentalist lobbies.

I urge everybody to go here and boycott the forest and bird forum! Vote with your feet! I will certainly be present.

LeoPhill – I think you’ll find that a great many Kiwi’s who leave wish they’d sone it sooner. In other words there’s a lag between the economic or social conditions that create the desire to leave, and the actual departure. Perhaps expat and/or OECD rank 22 kiwi could comment.

I fully expect migration to keep going up after National win in November… as our economy is pretty screwed as result of third-world management from our socialist leaders. IMHO it’ll take a decade of good management to have any chance of reviving our economy. Perhaps then the tide will stem. That, or we’ll get another wasteful, overtaxing socialist government and the cycle will perpetuate.

To answer LeoPhill question:

I don’t think the link is valid. He tries to minimize the current situation as it stand. Not as bad a Labour which pretends the problem of an outflow of skilled New Zealand’s doesn’t exist for political reasons because it makes them look bad. The problem will continue after 8 November, especially if National pursues its Labour-Lite program as none of the fundamentals causing New Zealand’s economy to under perform will change. Even in a best case scenario and a National/ACT government was formed with Roger Douglas as Finance Minister, it would time to turn the economy around. Nine years of Labour’s damage doesn’t get fix in one day.

To answer getstaffed question:

I definitely wanted to leave sooner than I did but it took a year of planning and up skilling to ensure the best outcome from a permanent move overseas. The 2005 election result didn’t go as anticipated. Don Brash was the last throw of the dice in term of New Zealand being able to save itself (This is prior to Roger Douglas making himself available to save the country). Who would have thought New Zealanders would choose Welfare over Tax Cuts? Knowing what a rubbish job Labour had done with the economy up until that point and that they intended to introduce even worst policy like WFF I knew the only sensible option was to permanently migrate overseas to a jurisdiction where the pay was better and the taxes lower. The UK was the best option available to me and provided significant advantages over Australia (i.e. the pay is much higher and there is more opportunity for tax minimisation). So the reasons for leaving are because of failings of the current Labour government. In order, that would be because New Zealand has low pay, high taxes and the future prospects of the country are decidedly bad. At the end of the day I had every reason to go and no reason to stay.

I left in 98 and returned in 03 only to find NZ had turned into a PC handwringers paradise where the gummint had lost the plot.

So left again in 07.
