Was Dixon actually insane in the end, or was he just acting ‘mad’ in court in an attempt to stay out of jail?

I worry about the worldview of anyone who wonders whether a guy was sane or not while he cut off some women’s hands with a samurai sword. As far as I’m concerned, he’s batshit insane, even if he thinks he’s pretending to be crazy.

You never know from the sound bites though, do you?

It will be interesting to read his entire defence and cross-examination deposition in the law report.

The TV One report after the first day of cross made him sound as if some coaching had been given to him since the first trial but of course that wouldn’t happen. He’s certainly sounding like a comic-book loony tune, as opposed to a common-or-garden one.

Bad taste I know.

Trials like these I wonder if it should not be up to a jury of specialists, I doubt most of us know what to look for in detecting madness as genuine or contrived.

Oh I know what to look for, I look in the mirror and it frightens me. I sharpen my large kitchen knives to relax. Just catching sight of my self in a shop window, as I walk down the street, makes me grip the scissors in my pocket very tightly. I know this girl, she likes me but tells me I scare her. She never told me she had taken photographs of me, she blindfolded me with my sword in my hand to help me relax and well when the blindfold came off and I was surrounded in mirrors and people were laughing, people I didn’t know were in the room. It went a bit wayward after that. I wouldn’t trust a person like me holding a sword in a situation like that… do you think they wanted to die?

How am I doing, how am I looking for the prize of “home detention” with electronic surveillance? Tax payer funded staff bringing me the things I need, in my own house. Life as a King.

The way I see it, and don’t make me sharpen my knives, is that he’s either completely bonkers or he’s taking the system for a walk. Sadly having closed down the long term ‘dangerously insane’ institution’s (thanks Helen) there is nowhere to toss people like this for a while and assess the snot out of them. So we throw them in jail and teach them even less respect for human life.

And no doubt, when he’s released on parole in 47 days, Corrections will find him work placement at House of Knives…
