Ralston’s never seen a hippo in the wild. He thinks they’re cartoon characters. They move pretty quick when they’re hungry or angry, like rottweilers when you disturb them in their territory, and ten times more dangerous. Chuck Russel Norman in with the Hippos and watch them make short work of the little turd.

I totally disagree with Ralston.

It is all about the hippo crapping in the water. It’s about thinking globally and hippo ablutions locally.

Let’s get down and dirty with Dr Norman and the hippos.

I am curious – if a species spends most of its time in water isn’t it “natural” that that species craps in water? It’s only pollution when people do it – I thought. After all the hippo is only doing what nature intended.

Or is Dr Norman suggesting that crapping in African waterways is ok but hippos crapping here is not? In which case if we are being “natural” and “environmental” shouldn’t the hippos be sent packing back to Africa?

And on that reasoning; isn’t that the case for the entire Zoo?

I think Dr Norman should hit the taxpayer funded carbon emitting big bird to Invercargill to tell voters there about the hippos crapping in Auckland waterways.

After all don’t we want an “informed” citizenry.

Please don’t tell me that these hippopotamuses are doing in captivity exactly as they do in the wild – poo in rivers and streams?

Norman should take his outrage to the rivers and lakes of Uganda, Sudan, Somalia, Kenya, Congo , Ethiopia, Ghana , Gambia, Botswana, Republic of South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Tanzania and Mozambique.

Clearly this is problem that warrants global action by the Green movement. A major demonstration along the rivers in Africa should be undertaken immediately

Please don’t anyone tell the Greens that NZ is full of animals, and they spend their days standing around in paddocks near rivers shitting where ever they please.

Otherwise they’ll be legislating to force farmers to wander around with pooper scoopers.

Dr Norman is not so much the angry buzzing aussie blowfly… he’s much more … well…. the noble dung beetle.

Short Shriveled suggests we treat this little foray into the media by Dr Norman seriously and not to dismiss it as a media stunt.

Well here goes.

This pollution is caused by Auckland City Council owned animals in an Auckland City zoological park which has a stream running through it, the water quality of which is an Auckland City responsibility.

The pollution has been going on since the zoo has had hippos.

The pollution is occurring in the Western Bays Ward of Auckland City and has done so since the Ward was created in 1989.

The Western Bays ward is represented by Cr Graham Easte former Chair of the local community Board. Graham Easte if not a Green Party Member is very sympathetic to the Greens.

Cr Graham Easte’s partner is former Councillor (of the adjoining Ward) and Green Party member Marie Leadbeater. Marie Leadbeater’s brother is the MP Keith Locke of the Green Party.

Well I don’t want to get too New Zeal about this but it does beg the question about what all of these Greenies have been doing about this environmental outrage. Is there one resolution past; one question asked. One step taken other than issuing a media release.

Come come hippo dung is a serious matter and not just shallow attempt at getting media attention.

There are plenty of little streams exiting to the inner harbour in the western bays ward. Take the one that runs beside cox’s park. It’s full of pollution too, but not a hippo in sight… Christ, you can’t even buy a pie there.

philu – no i find such inanities amusing because I like to hear more about how crazy the greens actually are. That’s what I’m smoking. It all helps undermine their perceived legitimacy. They have inherited this mantle of the guardians of our environment and moral compass etc without having done anything except not brush their hair or shave their legs so it’s good to see them brought out into the open.
