Raybon Kan on Grand Theft Auto
I like Raybon Kan’s take on Grand Theft Auto:I played some Grand Theft Auto IV.
People have discussed the morality of this game. I don’t pretend to understand how to play. It seems you steal cars and mug people and have lapdances and sex with prostitutes and commit murder. But I don’t see how morality even comes into it. I certainly didn’t notice morality being worth many points. Maybe I just didn’t get to a high enough level.
I didn’t notice the outcry when everyone was obsessive-compulsively shooting at Space Invaders. How did we know even they were invaders? Maybe they were just life forms we hadn’t met yet.
The moral police should come out with their own game, promoting their own values. Call it Goodie Good Preachy Auto. Have players give rides to hitchhikers and give way and attend church services and generally make all the other game characters feel empowered and safe and part of a community. Hmmm. Let’s see if the market cries out for a fourth version of that game.
That is a great idea. Let the market decide 🙂
