So it sold more than titles including “100 Ways to Use Slow Cookers and Crockpots” and “Year-round Recipes for Crockpots and Slow Cookers”. I guess crackpots beat crockpots this month. 🙂

Anyone finished with their copy? I’ll read it but I don’t actually want to spend any real money on it. I’m busy saving for a weeks driving holiday in the UK.

Thanks for the invitation roger nome. I did go read it myself. And after reading it, I think that either you are a liar, or you have a highly inflated opinion about your own importance. I’m in a good mood tonight, so I’ll be charitable and suggest it’s the latter. I actually believe that Wishart has given a pretty good account of himself at Poneke’s place considering all the supposed “attack-dogs” he is taking on single-handed.

Anyway, rather than doing anything that you might consider long-winded or amateurish, let me quote Wishart himself:

Had Jum read his Investigates properly, he/she would have learned about dioxin poisoning in New Plymouth – a story broken by the magazine but ridiculed by the Government and many in the media at the time.

Jum would have learned about New Zealand’s dubious constitutional position, which the Government steadfastly refused all questions on. The details have now been updated and expanded in Absolute Power in the chapter that deals with absolute power.

Jum would have discovered from internal Air New Zealand sources that the airline was cutting corners on flight safety from an engineering perspective, and he/she would have read this about six weeks BEFORE parts started dropping off Air New Zealand planes. (Air New Zealand and Investigate go back a long way, which is why there’s more to the Press Council ruling than meets the eye).

Jum would have discovered, just a couple of months out from the 2002 election, that National MPs and friendly journalists had been secretly paid to write or comment on matters dear to the heart of the Business Roundtable (So much for the Ian Wishart is “biased” angle).

There have been hundreds of stories, backed up by documented evidence or people prepared to testify to various things. Some of those stories tick people off. Too bad, you can’t please all the people all the time.”

No he doesn’t, and who would you be to judge that anyway, a cowardly POS who posts messages all over the internet using someone else’s image as an avatar? What would you know about honesty? You’re light years away from ever understanding the concept.

I admire Mr Wishart for his restraint and his reasonableness and his patience. He has more integrity (and courage) in his little finger than those desperate hate driven attack hyenas of the left who are baying and snarling and slavering on that thread. What a repugnant bunch of creeps.

I think it’s very interesting that one of the subjects discussed on Poneke’s blog (and indeed in Ian’s book) who has also contributed to the thread still hasn’t made made clear her position then or now about women’s rights and/or feminist issues.

I would have liked to have known what she thought about it then and what does she think about it now and, more importantly, why does she seem to be ducking the issue?

She seems determined to want to disassociate herself from that 70’s feminist group and seems to be using an attack on Ian and his allegations of what did-or-did-not-happen to distract from the real questions.

Why not, now that she has an open forum (so to speak) to clear up matters is it still so unclear?
eg, ‘I said this then, and I think this now’ etc

I think that is quite telling in itself.

Again, it’s using Helen’s ‘attack is the best defence’ strategy; Play the injured party then attack the person who is saying what you don’t like to change the subject and leave the original question up in the air. It’s so obvious.

Spin, spin, spin….

I think Ian is indeed showing the patience of a saint.

After explaining in some depth that he doesn’t care if the PM is gay, just if she lies about it when pushing a pro-gay agenda he is spending all his time repeating over and over what he said in the book explaining his position.

Just for that alone, the man is a saint.

Meanwhile, some very serious accusations are ignored by the left. This would be the same left that got in all sorts of knots after a book was published with private emails about the opposition and still needed extensive and unsupported “interpretation” to make them look bad.

I trust Wishart’s book about as much as I trust Hagar’s work. Both suffer from basing their work on strongly held, well stronger than that – viscerally held, preconceived views. They both have to be read with a very sceptical eye. The publicity around the book may well increase Clark’s popularity. Being harshly judged by Wishart is a badge on honour for a politician. I hope National stay well away from Wishart because he’s an unreliable historian and ally. He’s also quite strange.

Hagar & Wishart are very similiar characters – tenacious, obsessive, thorough, thick skinned, not motivated by money and ideological. The last point colours their work to the extent that it is at best unreliable and at worst complete tosh, in spite of being based on reliable information (even if it was flogged or more likely leaked). I will read Wishart’s book, as I have with Hagar’s work, because I think it’s important to test your opinions by reading people you disagree with.

You are quite incorrect. Hager relied on some stolen emails, and he fabricated many of the ones in the book. Check out Michael Bassets column where he mentions there is a whole page of emails Hager attributes to him that he never wrote. Also, we have no way of know where he got his information from, and how much of it is legitimate. He claims there are from National party insiders, but strangely, gives no quotes from them.

Wisharts book is from completely verifiable sources including the companies office, results from official information requests, and actual speeches from the PM and others.

To compare the two shows a fundamental lack of understanding of the validity of their information sources.

This book is being studiously ignored by the daily papers.
Last time I recall them studiously ignoring a best selling book was when Bob Jones published one of his hilarious piss takes on modern journalism. I forget the name of the book but it had me wetting myself with laughter.

And hes published these “lies”. Well that would be defamation wouldn’t it. Hullens never been shy about lawyering up before yet Ian has never been successfully sued. Why is that?

Could be your employer doesn’t really want a court to throw light under the rock and on to all the slippery slimey creatures that dwell there otherwise known as the labour party.

I wouldn’t worry about the media ignoring it, the bookshops are in it to make money and they’re all making it their window display. People stopped giving a crap what the media was telling them to think several stops back.

Even though I haven’t read the book yet, I’m confident that he hasn’t changed his spots. His choice of topic suggests that he is as obsessive as ever.

What I can’t work out is why so many posters regard Wishart’s work as objective when clearly he hates Clark and all she stands for? His strongly held views on this topic, and most other topics he tackles, colours what he writes. It couldn’t be more obvious, and I’m a National Party supporter.

Yet again folks confuse Wishart’s motivations with the integrity of material presented in his book. Either what he is saying is full of fabrications and hopelessly devoid of facts and it should be discarded (and the book moved over to the fiction best seller list) ..OR.. what’s been researched and written should be taken seriously. I’ve not read the book yet, but do plan to soon. I’ll make my own judgement based on the content, rather than any preconceived opinion of the author’s motivations.
