Tracy argues Clark made right call

Dom Post Political Editor Tracy Watkins is going against the consensus, and saying she believes it was the right call for Clark to stay away from most of Waitangi.

I’m not personally agreeing with Tracy, but she argues a sound case.  It is good also for there to be a difference of views amongst the gallery on this issue. There can sometimes be a bit of a “pack mentality” where people don’t want to go against the consensus.  I think it is always good to have a well reasoned argument the other way.

I don’t think Waitangi by itself was terribly important, but momentum is important and at the moment Key has it, and Clark is struggling. But there is no way that will continue to be the case all year – there will be good and not so good spells for both leaders.
